It depends on where you live, too. When I lived in Canada, I walked everywhere. Now I'm in a part of the U.S. that's completely car-dependent. I hit 10,000 steps when I visit walking-friendly cities like NY, Pittsburgh, or Chicago for work. When I drive to work or the store,I at least park on the far end of the parking lot…

Hi all, I'm Amy. I'm 32 and originally from the east coast of Canada but I've been living in C-Bus for the last 8 years.

Great logic. For years, the only regular exercise I got was housecleaning and yardwork. Yet, I've never weighed more than 120lbs. Clearly, this has *everything* to do with how great a workout this is and nothing to do with my metabolism or carefully monitored caloric intake. Tongue in cheek :P

I read about a study on this in the book "Switch". Basically, they educated one group of hotel maids on how much excercise/calories burned they had each day. The control group did not receive this information. The informed group lost more weight than the control group. This can be because they now saw themselves as…

Just wanted to bump this and to follow up... Thank you Shelly for mentioning iron levels. Turns out this was indeed the problem. My hemoglobin and iron levels were so low I was below the point normally considered for transfusion. I had an underlying illness I had no idea about. And of course I thought my lack of energy was…

I count it. Just completely scrubbed the bathroom and sweat is pouring off me!

Good for you! Best wishes on your journey! Getting started is the hardest part. Keep at it.

My 1200 calorie goal is net, so I eat my excercise calories burned, and my diet modification included cutting out the junk and processed stuff for fresh fruits and veggies. I'm 5'1 115lbs so 1200 calories a day to lose a pound or two of stubborn fat doesn't seem out of wack to me. The weird thing is this wasn't happening…

I had cottage cheese, fruit salad, and a light & fit yogurt from the cafeteria cooler. I took one look at the daily 'specials' and saw what I think was soup (with a layer of grease on top) and some cheesy potato thingys and walked right on by! I REALLY need to start packing lunch.

I got married in Vegas during the dead of summer months at the Little White Wedding Chapel. I had a very simple and light knee-length white dress and strappy sandals. We had to wait outside for 30 minutes for photos after the ceremony. Needless to say I was much more comfortable than my husband.

Good for you! One piece of advice I HIGHLY recommend is revising your personal goals to be a little more precise. Like, instead of "quit (or at least cut back) smoking", make it "smoke no more than two cigarettes a day starting X date" or completely quit by X date. These are your goals and you have to define what you want…

This is rather ironic when you compare it to you avatar. Is that water you're drinking?

Ashtanga fan here. :)

My resting heart rate is about 100 bpm and it has been for years even though I am physically fit. It is great that you’ve seen a cardiologist. Have you undergone a stress test or worn a 24 or 48 hour holter? Abnormal heart rhythms can be had to catch, like a car that drives fine when you take it to a mechanic. I had an…

"I want you gargling your heart after these two minutes of cardio!"

Try asthanga or birkram if you think yoga can't be kickass cardio.

I confess that vodka and cranberry is at the top of my 'top used' dinner entries.

I confess that the last three times I stopped at J Gumbo's for to-go food, I divided half the meal into a container for the fridge and put half on my plate (a much more reasonable portion).... ...All three times, I was back upstairs eating the other half within 15 minutes.

I brought stuff to work to make my favorite salad: 50/50 mixed greens, fat free raspberry vingarette, craisians, walnuts, and sometimes grilled chicken that I made the night before. Cheap, easy, and cuts down on the sodium from those microwavable meals that I often grab too.

We are all trying to change our lifestyles and it is not feasible to cover our eyes and ears and sing 'lalala.' :) Gotta deal with temptation, and quite frankly, pizza doesn't look very good when I just busted my *kitten* at the gym. lol

Anything by Jillian Michaels. I know, I know... some people find her annoying but it WORKS. 30 Day Shred, No More Trouble Zones, and 6 Week 6 Pack are my favs. I actually stick with them and I saw improvements after one week.

I have a few of the 100 calorie right bites. Anything "Fudge Shoppe" is alright by me. EDIT: How can I forget Skinny Cow Ice Cream. Loveeeeee, and 100 calories: http://www.skinnycow.com/myproducts/bars.php

I log it under circuit training - general.

I definitely by how my clothing fits. For the longest time I didn't even own a scale or full length mirror. I tried on a pair of last summer's jeans and no such luck yet -- it would require laying down, grappling, and perhaps some pliers -- to get them on. I will try again in 5 more weeks.

I started off with hatha yoga about 4-5 years ago. I moved onto ashtanga about 2 years ago for more of a challenge. I still do a modified primary series 3-4 times per week. I do restorative/yin yoga every few weeks as a relaxing treat.

Very cool that your mom and sister are also on board. Welcome. :)
