Same here, I think it jump starts your metabolism somehow. I broke my last plateau with a stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut. But unfortunately, it doesn't have the same amazing effect anymore.

You need to know going into it that you will not be able to keep up. Even the people in the video can't keep up. If you understand this going in, you won't hit that wall of disappointment when you collapse on the floor. I've done it twice through, and there are still parts that I can't keep up with. Just keep moving and…

What's with all the "real runner" talk? If you run, you're a runner, whether you're doing C25K or a marathon. That being said, any of you are welcome to add me. I've been running for about a year and a half. I went from hating my twice yearly runs in the Navy (so bad that I usually threw up afterwards) to running a…

Great info, thanks!

On a whim, I thought it would be fun to sign up for a pole dance class from Groupon. You have to wear tank tops and tiny shorts, and the studio walls are mirrored. I had NO idea how heavy I looked until I could see myself from all angles. I wrote on facebook that night about how I needed to lose weight and a friend…

THIS! There's nothing that you "obviously" have to avoid unless you're allergic to it. There is nothing that I won't allow myself in moderation. That being said, there are things that I prefer not to buy because I tend to overeat them when they're readily available but that's a matter of portion control.

I've been lifting heavy for a year in hopes that I'd grow one, but no luck so far. Time to go up in weight.

It really depends on how you react to the cold. Once I start running, my body heats up quite a bit, so I prefer thin moisture-wicking layers. Usually I wear tight cotton pants, a long sleeve wicking t-shirt, and a tight-fitting zippered track jacket. A knit hat or headband to cover my ears is a must. Also, look for mittens…

I lost a bunch of weight and my husband constantly tells me that he prefers my new weight and wants me to stay this way. I'd be fine with that if he weren't a total lard@ss himself. How do I make it clear to him that I busted my butt to look like this and I'd appreciate some effort in return? Also, he still insists on…

First things first, go get a good pair of running shoes from a running specialty store. Don't ask for brand name recommendations or pick the prettiest colored pair... get a proper fitting and buy the ones that feel the best. Try to find a store that does a gait analysis to help with this. Plan to spend about $100, although…

I don't have time to cook breakfast every morning either, so I prepare it ahead of time. You can make low-carb, high protein pancakes with oatmeal, white wheat flour, and protein powder in the batter. I make mine 4 dozen at a time and freeze them to re-heat every morning. I also eat two egg whites with turkey sausage…

Since you have a sweet tooth, try Pure Protein bars. They have 20g of protein for only 180-200 calories and they're pretty tasty. I love the Chocolate Deluxe and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough isn't bad either. They also have one that I believe is called revolution, which has peanuts and caramel... think a slightly less…

I can't stand having babies and small children in the movie theater! Get a babysitter or wait for the DVD! I sympathize, I have kids, and I missed out on dates and outings because of not having a sitter, but welcome to parenthood. Not only do I not want to listen to your child cry, but the noise level is too much for a…

I agree with the posters that say 1400 is too low for maintenance. When I hit maintenance, MFP recommended about 1450 calories a day for me. Based on the suggestions in New Rules of Lifting for Women, my baseline is now 1845 a day, and I eat back my exercise calories. Depending on what you do for exercise, you can afford…

I read the first 50 Shades book and thought it had potential. I read the second one and nearly died of boredom. I can't stomach the thought of spending money on the third. I'm halfway through the third book of the Sleeping Beauty trilogy and I can't put it down! It's so much better than 50 Shades could ever hope to be. I…

You said you don't run on hard surfaces, but then said you sometimes run on the sidewalk. According to my podiatrist (who I had to visit after nearly getting a stress fracture in my foot), sidewalks are one of the worst surfaces to run on. After the foot incident (at which time I also had horrible shin splints), she told…

The answer of 600-800 may be more geared towards men. I'm about an inch shorter than you and weighed about the same my first time through Insanity, and I usually burned about 450 for the tougher workouts.
-
This is great advice! If you watch the Insanity videos, you'll notice that even the cast can't keep up with the whole workout. They take breaks as they need to, and these are "elite" people. I started Insanity with minimal exercise experience and very poor cardio capacity. It kicked my butt, but it was soooooo worth it.…

It's a requirement for residency, otherwise you pay higher taxes. I definitely hate the Steelers! Being Baltimore born and raised, and old enough to have been alive when we still had the Colts, I hate Indy, too. They took our name, our uniforms, our history... and don't even acknowledge the team's Baltimore years.
-
Ha, funny you should say that. My 5 year old likes to workout with me and even she's graduated past the pink 2-pounders to the purple 3-pounders.

I usually do Crossfit routines or variations thereof rather than just straight lifting, but this is a sample of some of my heavier lifts. I usually do these in a 9-to-1 ladder, so a total of 45 reps: Deadlift - 155 lbs Bench - 75 lbs (my weakest lift by far) Squats - 115 lbs Not great, but not bad for 4'11" and 113 lbs.

Congratulations! As a former hater of running, I still remember the sense of accomplishment the first time I willingly went out and ran a mile. Keep up the good work!

Bumping for later. Thanks!

I've been at my goal weight for about a year now, and I still log my food. If I don't, I go wild and start eating too much of all the wrong stuff. If you can keep yourself in check, great. If not, it's probably best to log it.
-
I've done Insanity twice through now. The first time, I had lost some weight but was still out of shape, and it kicked my @$$. The second time, I was at my goal weight, ran regularly, lifted heavy, and did Crossfit... and it still kicked my @$$. Insanity is designed to be challenging no matter what your fitness level is.…
