This! I've been trying to convey this point to my husband for over a year now. While his physical appearance plays a role in my desire for him to lose weight, it infuriates me that he doesn't take into account the affect that his unhealthy choices are going to have on me and the kids down the road.

I have a male friend of mine in a similar situation, and in his case, it's both of these factors. His wife was fit and gorgeous when he married her, but over the past 15 years, she's put on quite a bit of weight, to the point of easily outweighing him by 50 pounds. He's very health conscious and works out, and she shuns…

I just ran my first half a few weeks ago and came in just over 2:09. Don't be overly concerned with time, just pace yourself. You'd be better off running a slower, constant speed than taking off fast and wearing yourself out. The terrain will also impact your time. I was lucky enough to run a relatively flat course, so…

1. My routines vary but many are Crossfit routines or variations thereof. The most common things I do include: - 10 rounds of 15 reps each of push-ups and deadlifts at 85 lbs (or squats at 85 lbs in place of deadlifts) - 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 ladder of bench press at 55 lbs, deadlifts at 115 lbs, and clean squats at 75 lbs -…

Congratulations! I just did my first half a few weeks ago, too. I can't wait for the next one, even though it's a year away. (Issues with my left leg make me limit my distance running.) Keep up the great work!

Female, 5'0", 110 pounds... I generally lift 115-125 pounds when doing multiple reps.

Ooh, now we're talking. We can go for a run together and then unwind over candlelight and calculus. Maybe we double-date with the OP and his vict... um, I mean girlfriend.

It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose!
I cant do that. She will crush my TI-84. I know it's the best calculator money can buy and I am sure it is tested but do you really think it can support 500+lbs of weight?
You have a TI-84??? The nerd in me just fell in love with you.

Great job, Gary! Your determination is so inspiring! It's so easy to get discouraged when we hit plateaus or even gain a little back, but you always press on and keep forging ahead towards your goal. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! :drinker:

At least yours just hurts. Mine exploded.

The lighter and more in shape you are, the less you burn. Since losing my weight, I burn significantly less than I used to for the same exercises. If you have a lot of guy friends on here, it can be particularly frustrating because they burn sooooo much more because of their size, but it's just a fact of life. There are…

Personally, I'd take the week off from logging. Unless you're going to wear a heart rate monitor all day, you won't be able to accurately estimate your calories burned from walking, and you likely won't be able to find accurate food information either. Go enjoy yourself and be wise about your food choices while still…

I drink both, but my preference is Pepsi Max.

Hahaha, thanks for the laugh, I needed it!

I don't think the issue is so much snacking but *what* is given as a snack. My kids know that if they want a snack between meals, their only options are something healthy, such as fruit, peanut butter, or cheese. After dinner, they usually have one or two treats before bed, such as candy or chips, and a small cup of…

My first wake up call was seeing 149.5 on the scale. That may not seem like a lot to some of you, but I'm 5 feet tall and had always been 110 until I had my second baby. 149.5 was a little too close to 150 for my taste, so I cut back on some stuff (sodas, fast food, etc.) and dropped down to 135. For quite a while, I…

And this is exactly why I can't bring myself to put my son on meds.

Thanks for offering your time and expertise! I enjoy having "go-to" friends on here who can offer more than just an uninformed opinion. Friend request coming your way!

For me, run! But even if you have to crawl, getting up and moving is better than sitting on your butt doing nothing.

I have a Polar FT4 and I love it. Not sure what you consider inexpensive, but my model sells on Amazon for about $67. You want to make sure that whatever you buy has a chest strap for accuracy, first and foremost. The "watch only" types never seem to work well for people. I've rarely heard of anyone being unhappy with HRMs…

And yet your answer still fit perfectly!

While there are certainly nicer ways to convey the message, I think your friend meant well. Unfortunately, tough love can be taken out of context and is probably best reserved for those people we actually know rather than online friends. She makes some good points, but that doesn't mean you're not entitled to bad days.…

I've done Insanity twice. The first round, I lost 10 pounds and looked completely different by the end of it. I have the before and after shots in my album. If it's not open for public viewing (I'm not sure) feel free to send me a friend request (or also if you'd like some more support). I probably would've lost a lot more…
