  • Hi all, I have fallen behind on the thread again. Well done @Elise4270 for a fast 5km (even if it was short, it was definitely speedy! And good luck with your HM! Thanks @Stoshew71 posting photos of beautiful scenery, and @AdrianChr92 for funny weather memes! That made me laugh! I am having the opposite situation here,…
  • My husband and I can never run together either, because he is so fast. Sometimes he looks at my pace for a long run on Garmin Connect and says "Couldn't you walk faster than that?", not mean like, just confused that someone could be that slow and still be running. I wouldn't mind getting him to pace me for a 5 or 10km PR,…
  • @runner_girl83 super news from the physio!!! So pleased for you :) . And Happy Birthday! @kateparry84 We all have peaks and valleys in our running journey, and it's easy to become disheartened. Take the pressure off yourself. Think about why it might feel harder just now - are you cutting calories, or not getting enough…
  • Mid-week longish run today - 15.44 km at 7:02 min/km, av HR 143, max HR 156. This felt good today. That pace is about what I plan to do on marathon day (or maybe I can go a bit faster; we'll see). 7 min/km is about a 5 hr marathon. I am thinking that I am going to add in a day a week at marathon pace just so I know I can…
  • I don't really have anything to add to what others have already said, except my agreement, but I love to chime in on posts around running in hot weather, because I do it too. live in Central Queensland, Australia, and we have just sweltered through a really hot, humid summer. I also recommend early morning runs to beat the…
  • I hope everyone is doing well with their goals. This thread is growing and growing as the months go by! • 13 slow kms today. It was hot, I'm tired. 1 Mar Rest 2 Mar 13.05 km 3 Mar 7.16 km 4 Mar 7.42 km 5 Mar 23.39 km 6 Mar Rest 7 Mar 7.42 km 8 Mar 7.44 km 9 Mar 13.29 km Total: 79.17 km / 200 km Races: 5 June Rocky River Run 21km 3 July Gold Coast Marathon
  • @Stoshew71 @WhatMeRunning @Elise4270 - I have recently started to do a bit of reading about fasted running and training your body to be better at fat burning to help with endurance training. All very interesting. What I know from doing some fasted running is that you have to do it slow, at your conversational / fat burning…
  • @Stoshew71 - I sent a request to join the strava group - (Michele Smith). And @_nikkiwolf_ thanks so much for the website to sync between Garmin and Strava! All my runs are syncing to Strava as I write this (73% complete).
  • Hi, I'm a bit late to the party this month - 15 pages already!!! I will try to catch up and comment. I will look into the Strava thing. I'm in for 200 km this month. 1 Mar Rest 2 Mar 13.05 km 3 Mar 7.16 km 4 Mar 7.42 km 5 Mar 23.39 km Total: 51.02 km / 200 km Races: 5 June Rocky River Run 21km 3 July Gold Coast Marathon
  • @_nikkiwolf_ Haha! Nice improvisation, Macgyver!
  • @5BeautifulDays Congrats on your HM! So glad your son is ok. I hope he is ok with needles! @Elise4270 Yay for just tendinitis!(?) Better than a stress fracture, I guess. @moyer566 congrats for signing up for a HM! @cbro70 Congrats on your awesome run! @ceciliaslater Rocking the moonboot! @whatang Yes! Definitely. Go for…
  • @Stoshew71 @MobyCarp @WhatMeRunning @kristinegift @_nikkiwolf_ and everyone else who chimed in on the long run discussion. I am so fascinated with this topic, as this is the exact scenario I am struggling with at the moment. I am doing my first marathon in July, and I have one of those 18 week plans @Stoshew71 critiqued! I…
  • Week 8 Marathon training complete. 47.44 km over 4 runs this week. 22.78km long run this morning; av HR 141, max HR 152. This is my longest run ever. It was a stinker this morning - hot and humid. Garmin connect says 25C with 89% humidity. My husband said the temp was over 28C when I got home, with an apparent temp of 31C!…
  • Most scary thing out running when it is still dark - spiderweb across the path at head height with a big, fat spider in it. Especially when you don't see the web before you have run through it. Then you're freaking out, trying to pull web off your face and work out if there is a huge spider on you somewhere. I have been…
  • 11.52 km @ 7:32 min/km; Av HR 130, max HR 149. Warm and humid run this morning; 23.9 C and 94% humidity at 4.45am. My legs are still a little sore from the Runners World Iron Strength workout I did on Sunday. I don’t mind the kind of muscle soreness you get when you haven’t worked muscles for a while. To me, it means I had…
  • @Elise4270 your poor knee! Warm, red and throbbing doesn't sound good at all! Could it be infected? @_nikkiwolf_ that was a stellar effort in the weather! I can't believe it hailed on you! Well done for getting out again after all that, and so glad it was a great run!
  • @skippygirlsmom I hope Skip is better soon - that would have been so frightening. I’m sure it was related to being sick with a high temp, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to see a paediatric neurologist to make sure everything is ok. 15.41 km @7:06 min/km; Av HR 141, max HR 153. What a difference a rest day makes. And cooler…
  • A few thoughts: Usually, the first km or 2 of every run feels a little uncomfortable while your cardiovascular system kicks into gear. If you can keep going up to that point, it will start to feel better. What is your goal? e.g. to run a certain distance, to participate in a race, etc. Clarify your goal so you know why you…
  • 6.28 km @7:42 min/km; Av HR 121, max HR 134. Tired legs today. According to Eric Orton, when you have a low HR for your perceived effort, it usually means your legs are tired. This is a cutback week on my training plan, so I have a rest day tomorrow, and 15km long run on Saturday. Thanks for all the suggestions on glute…
  • @runner_girl83 So glad you have some answers, although I understand your disappointment about not being able to run as much as you want. I love that you can see the positives, too, i.e. no shin splints, and a great deal on shoes. Good luck with the physio. When I went to see a physio with pelvic joint pain after baby no.5…
  • @_nikkiwolf_ haha at repeatedly bending your thumb to see if it's better. My husband is an OT, and when I have an injury and say, "It hurts when I do this"; his consistent response is "don't do it then". 10.46 km @7:22 min/km; Av HR 133, max HR 144. My last 4 or 5 runs have been much more pleasant since the terrible heat…
  • @annekka fantastic job on completing your first HM! Don't worry, I'm sure you were trained and ready, but heat and humidity can mess with the best preparation, and add a lot to your time. @kateparry84 congrats on your best run ever! @7lenny7 I'm glad your hamstring feels better!
  • @Wendy1Fl congratulations! What a beautiful little one! So glad she is good for you. I had a baby on January 21 too, but it was 26 years ago now. And he wasn't quiet or content. Welcome back. You're doing well to be back out running already. Take care!
  • @Elise4270 what a race report! Well done finishing the race after such adversity! Laughing out loud at the panty liners first aid! @ceciliaslater I hope your ankle gets sorted out by the orthopod! @runner_girl83 Best of luck at the podiatrist! It will be awesome if you get your shoes and shins sorted out. @WhatMeRunning…
  • So behind on this thread! Can't wait to have some time to catch up on it. Really interested in all that barefoot running and foot strike stuff. I am really asymmetrical and naturally have a forefoot strike with supination on my left foot (so I wear down the toe and outside of my left shoe), and trying to teach my right…
  • @7lenny7 @shanaber @Stoshew71 @Elise4270 @Virkati @WhatMeRunning Thanks so much for all your feedback about fueling during races. I am loving the experience and willingness to share knowledge here in this group!
  • @lporter229 Mid 40s here too, and love the hashtag!
  • I'm in for 165 km this month. Welcome to all the new faces! Welcome back to everyone else! Good luck everyone with your personal running / walking goals this month. @kateparry84 congratulations on your longest distance ever! @skippygirlsmom thanks for the inspiration! I like it too. • I exceeded my goal of 150 km in January. It was my biggest running month ever. I am pretty stoked. Congratulations to everyone who ran last month, whether you hit your goal or not. There is always another month! See you all in the February thread.
