  • I have found it harder than I thought it would be to find my maintenance calories. When I got to my goal weight of 53kg (I am 5 ft 4) about 3 or 4 months ago, I started adding 100-200 calories every week or so to find my maintenance calories. I have since lost another 3 kgs. The weight loss has been very slow, so I think…
  • Hi everyone, hope your week is going well! Congrats to everyone who weighed and / or measured themselves this week. Shanna, great abs! I'm on track for the week so far: I played squash Monday, and ran Tuesday (steady run) and Wednesday (intervals today were a bit lacklustre, but my average pace over the distance came out…
  • Name: Michele Challenge Starting Weight: 50.3 kg Goal Weight: 49 kg (49 kg was the spreadsheet suggestion, but I am pretty happy at my current weight - weight loss is not my primary goal here. I am more focussed on my fitness goals in running and strength, and bodyfat now) Today's Weight: 50 kg Weight loss since start of…
  • Hi Mungo, I like that you have a reward system in place for your son to encourage him to go to school. I used to work with a young man with significant behavioural concerns relating to going to school. He had ADHD, ASD, significant anxiety, and an intellectual disability. He did not want to get in the taxi to go to school…
  • Hi Terri, I would say your weight is up due to your muscles retaining water to repair themselves after starting your new strength workout. You'll have to let me know how you go with NROLFW. I've read it, but not started yet because of lack of equipment at home. I think I'll be doing my Bodyweight program for a few more…
  • I agree with what other people here have said about experimenting a bit to find out what your true maintenance calories are. 1400 cals is not much food. Maybe you could try to eat more protein so you feel more satisfied. A couple of other thoughts: find something you love doing exercise-wise, so that part is not such a…
  • Great to hear everyone doing so well! My goals for this week: - half marathon training; wk8 - 4 runs - bodyweight strength training x2 sessions - take the time now and then to appreciate my family and my good life I ran this morning, and did a strength workout, so I am on track. Have a great week everyone!
  • My husband ran for an hour and burned 900 cals. But he ran 9 miles. I ran for an hour and burned 540 cals. I only ran 6.3 miles. I would have to go closer to 2 hours running to get 900 - 1000 cals burned. Looks like running pace has a lot to do with getting those big burns in the shortest time. (Calorie burns measured…
  • When I first started running about 10 years ago, I did a walk/run program to gradually build up the time and distance I could run. (This was before the days of iPhones and C25K). The program I followed said that I would be able to run for 30 minutes straight after 8 weeks. I didn't believe that could be possible. It seemed…
  • I have a HRM, and always compare it to MFPs figures after running. I have been pleasantly surprised at how closely my HRM and MFPs figures correspond for running. This is for running only. I would not trust MFP figures for anything else. Actually, I don't even trust my HRM for anything besides running, because I think…
  • Now that does sound like a fun way to incorporate speed work! And what you said about getting out of your slow steady comfort zone is right. I used to do that, too, and it didn't make me faster. I had to actually run faster to run faster, if you know what I mean!
  • Checking in for the week. Have to admit I've been a bit flat this week. I think I was hung over for a few days after Australia Day. I really can't drink like I used to anymore, although when I do drink, I always think I can drink like I used to, so I end up quite under the weather for days afterwards - mentally and…
  • This is really old school, but I borrowed a running book from my local library. Heaps of great info, and heaps of training programs for every race distance and ability level. The program I'm doing incorporates speed work - 1 interval run / week, 1 tempo run / week, as well as a steady run and a long run. Later in the…
  • High 5 for Candirose! Good one! I did my interval run at 5:30am, I've had a big protein breakfast, so things are looking good for the week!
  • Hey everyone, welcome to the week! I had a great weekend with my family visiting - totally overdid the drinking, so was really seedy yesterday. Spent a lot of time lying around feeling that terrible drinker's remorse. I hit most of my exercise and nutrition goals for the week, so pretty happy about that. I won't be…
  • Candirose, so sorry to hear about your family's sad news.
  • Hi everyone, hope your day is going well. I ran this morning, yay! and have been working hard at home for about 3 hours to clean the house up a bit for my fam coming to visit today! I know, I said I was going to do it yesterday, but I am a born procrastinator! Trying hard to change, but it is hard. I ended up applying for…
  • WAHelga, thanks for that info about NROL. I will have to look it up.
  • Skim, Your post takes me back to when my ex and I split - those were some bad times. I feel your pain. I love the quote, "I am imperfect, but still lovable." It brought tears to my eyes. Too often we punish ourselves so hard for not being perfect, and we shouldn't. Easier said than done, I know. Thanks for sharing with us,…
  • Morning all, My week has gone pretty much to plan so far, with training schedule on track and protein goal hit every day so far. Rest day today, while I try to get this house in acceptable condition for my fam visiting on the weekend - vacuuming, bathrooms, toilets, changing sheets, etc. I will see how much I can…
  • Hi everyone, I've been out for my run this morning: intervals today. I have discovered that I quite like intervals, actually. Never done them before this training program. I find it easier to keep up a faster pace when I know I only have to do it for 90 secs before having a recovery slow jog for a minute. Emma, it's great…
  • My top tips for not snacking at night: - leave enough cals for dessert / treat after kids go to bed; for me, it's a hot milo every night - I have a rule that I don't eat after 9:30pm, cos that's usually about the time I might start thinking about snacking - brush your teeth and go to bed! That way you can get up at 5am and…
  • Hi everyone, I just joined the group last night. I have posted my stats and goals in the Intro thread. I am happy to accept friend requests! My goals for this week are to: - hit 100 g of protein per day - eat at around 1700 cals per day - complete week 6 of my half-marathon training program (4 runs - Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sun)…
  • Hi Skim, and everyone in the group. This is a great idea! Name: Michele Location: Yeppoon, QLD Sex: F Age: 44 Height: 163cm Starting Weight: 50.3kg Starting Date: 20/01/14 Goal Weight: 49kg (spreadsheet suggestion for small frame) Starting Measurements: Bicep: 24cm Chest: N/A - I never measure this - no fat there Waist: 63…
  • My fave breakfast right now is wholegrain oats made with a cup of skim milk, with sliced banana and chobani yogurt. If I have enough cals, I will add a handful of almonds or walnuts. Yum! If I'm in a hurry, same as above, except 3 weetbix instead of oats. And a cup of tea (or 2) with a dash of skim milk. I think breakfast…
  • I have found my symptoms greatly reduced since starting on a low-dose, combined contraceptive pill. I don't know if that is an option for you, but it was definitely a noticeable difference for me - no more over-eating before my visit, no more cramps or bloating, the mood-related symptoms decreased, and the actual "visit"…
  • Congratulations on your hard work! You look great - and so much younger! Thanks for sharing your story - it makes me believe I could do it too!
  • Stretch marks never go away, but they do fade over time. So, if yours are fairly new, they may seem angry and red now, but they will fade to a silvery colour over the years. I have had 6 children, and still have the stretch marks from number 1, 25 years ago.
  • When I let work stress derail my exercise routine and make me eat all the chocolate!
