  • I try to eat low carb (generally considered under 50g a day) but it's too hard to do that while still having enough fruit and vegetables to my satisfaction. I eat moderate carbs (100-150g per day) and has worked rather well for me. I am now able to always get enough protein and it feels quite emotionally satisfying to…
  • Bad grammar makes it hard to read. BTW, a nutritionist is not the same thing as a Registered Dietician. The latter has to have formal education and certification.
  • Very, very judgmental people here.
  • What's the strawberry one taste like? I'm usually afraid of fruit flavors in powders since it so often tastes way too artificial.
  • Whoa, she lost a lot of weight and maintained her muscles really well. Damn, it must be great to have full time dietician and trainer(s) working for you as a celebrity.
  • The majority of people here will just tell you to count your calories and eat at a deficit. I however accept the science literature showing that carbohydrates make many of us fat (they are also most abundant in high-cal, nutrient-bankrupt food). Most people who go low carb generally don't feel as hungry so I wonder if you…
  • I LOVE the cheesecake flavor pudding powder from Jello. It's too bad it's kind of high carb because of the thickening agent.
  • I can just set them in the dehydrator while fresh and they'll crisp up?
  • I love Nature's Best Isopure Zero Carb protein powders. It's the only one with no carbs so you are getting just protein. I like to blend it with frozen fruit to add in a whole source of carbs.
  • Yeah, dark mark cooks much better since it doesn't get so dry like white meat. Unfortunately it's also rather calorie dense. 200g of boiled plain chicken thigh meat isn't very much to eat and packs nearly 500 cal!
  • Clean sources of whole food but it's not going to make you feel full at all since it's basically all fructose (carbs) and a little fiber. It's also a really small serving. I'd add protein to the meal.
  • Yeah, buffets are really difficult for me. The last time I went, I just stuffed up with the healthiest options I could find (vegetables, non-breaded meat, salad with lite dressing). I still overate and consumed way too many calories but I guess it could have been worse if I had stuffed myself with cake and ice cream.
  • Most of you tell me to log it. I tried my best at guestimating the calories. It wasn't a packaged food but rather dessert purchased from a deli. I tried cutting back the rest of the day so that I wouldn't go over too much with my calories but towards the end of the day I realized I just couldn't (was too hungry). I ate the…
  • Aura is such a typical American. She thought the Black Forest is right by Stuttgart (it's not). So peinlich. Äh.
  • Was the cheesecake portion extremely small? Cream cheese on its own is like 1g carb to 1g protein. Adding in sugar and the graham crackers will make it very carby. Anyway, I currently eat between 100g-150g of carbs a day. This is about as low as I can get it without cutting out fruit and vegetables.
  • I dropped my carb intake from average 300g to about 150g and had the initial water weight loss. I was really shocked since I thought I was eating too many carbs to see any difference. I now average between 100-150g of carbs a day and can't manage to drop any lower without making myself feel really deprived. Most of my…
  • Schnitzel is an Austrian specialty. As someone else pointed out, if you want uniquely American food, you can easily shop at the grocery store on the base.
  • GMO isn't unhealthy. Traditional German food is very high fat (cheese, meat) and high carb (bread) so that can be a recipe for disaster if you don't control your portions. You'll find that the locals tend to eat small portions of these and restaurant/cafe/bakery portions are all smaller than in the US while costing more.…
  • Yeah, fats in generally aren't very physically filling like protein and fiber, however they are emotionally satiating for many.
  • If you can eat a small portion and be fine with that, great! Many of us who are or were obese deal with binge eating and "treats" can be big triggers. I'm not really able to eat treats in any reasonable quantity so I try to avoid it.
  • If you must omit the honey, I'd add in a little bit of artificial sweetener just to highlight the sweet undertones a bit more. As for this recipe, it sounds very good but personally I'd puree the apple so that it would soak better into the (pierced) meat and infuse it with sweetness.
  • From Lehningers Principles of Biochemistry: "High blood glucose elicits the release of insulin, which speeds the uptake of glucose by tissues and favors the storage of fuels as glycogen and triaglycerols, while inhibiting fatty acid mobilization in adipose tissue." and Williams Textbook of Endocrinology: "The activity of…
  • I don't see why women have children and then complain about the tolls on the body when you already are aware of the consequences of pregnancy and birth.
  • No, not all kinds of sugar are processed the same in the body. Fructose goes directly to the liver to be metabolized. And no, the villain order wasn't fat, carbs and now sugar. Sugars are carbs and was always grouped together with regular refined carbs. The villain was fat then carbs. There's substantial evidence to show…
  • So no one has seen them cheaper any where else?
  • I love Quest bars but even eating one a day can get expensive since a box only has twelve.
  • The fructose in most fruit is much less than in refined forms in candy, candy etc. Sugar in general isn't very good for the body but most people can tolerate small amounts found naturally in fruit. If your diet consistently has too much sugar/fructose/sucrose/etc, it may lead to fat gain and other health issues.
  • I really admire people who can exercise or train intensely while in a fasted/hungry state. I've tried this many times and it is really difficult. It's more manageable with cardio than lifting for me. If I try lifting heavy while hungry, I am very weak.
  • GNC currently has a sale for "gold" members at $24.99 a box. That's the same price as Amazon's except you have to be a paid gold member so it's actually more expensive.
  • Blah! I had been doing rather well since posting here yesterday but messed up pretty badly earlier tonight for dinner. I spent a very, very long time making a beef stew for my family. I thought it turned out decent but I was very harshly criticized by my mother for an infinite number of things wrong with the dish. I feel…
