  • Sounds like you have lymphoedema?
  • USDA reports that average American daily calorie intake has increased by 300 since the 70s. If you reduce this to "elementary math," the average 30-40 year old American should weigh more than 1000lbs. I hate it that so many people here reduce weight loss to "simple math" in a very condescending tone to others. Calories do…
  • The time is going to pass regardless so it's better to be sustainable about it than reckless. Those who lose weight very fast almost always gain it back fast with lasting consequences (less lean body mass from drastic weight loss means an even slower metabolism rate).
  • Weight loss is not pure math, wtf.
  • because MLM is an unethical way of marketing a product.
  • I'm at about the last 15 as well and I'm really struggling. I've upped my exercise intensity and have been eating mostly "clean" at a calorie deficit.
  • Eat to Live is a good meal plan but it's expensive because it eschews lean meat in favour of pounds of leafy vegetables.
  • I tried tracking daily weigh ins through MFP but don't like how the app isn't optimized for that. Plus, friends are thinking I'm gaining weight and dropping it several times a week.
  • Help in this area is hard to get... it's unfortunate that the best treatment for ED comes from therapy that can take a lifetime for most to deal decently with. I struggle with compulsive overeating. In the past year and a half, my eating has improved as I put in the effort to lose fat. It's been VERY difficult even after…
  • Nuts are pretty much the best way to add calories to your diet in the form of healthy fats. A small portion can be several hundred calories so it's not hard at all to reach a calorie goal if you find yourself undereating too much. Macadamias have very good fats in them and are also the highest cal (220cal per 1/4 cup!) so…
  • What about it is good for your health? Yes, it tastes good but it's rather calorie dense and will spike your insulin quite dramatically. It's also difficult to eat in a small portion for most people and is usually coupled with fat/and or sugar which is an evil combo for fat loss.
  • I was at the grocery store last night and was so tempted to buy some junk food to eat in "moderation." My biggest craving is for some Sara Lee strawberry cheesecake flavoured ice cream. The calories, fat and sugar is too high so I kept walking in the aisles and made myself to the candy section. I kept trying to see if I…
  • Non-coach, Shakeology user here: It's a good quality shake powder that is made bad by an outrageous price and unethical MLM practices. The marketing also really plays up certain gimmicks like "all natural, no chemicals," etc. After my two month-supply runs out, I won't ever buy it again.
  • There's no conclusive evidence that artificial sweeteners are "unhealthy" but it's hard to argue that they are healthful since for many, it can lead to more sweet/sugar cravings. I like the Crystal Light single serving powder packets. It's 10 cal a packet and the Energy kind wakes you up with caffeine. I love that it…
  • Yes, it's "bad" because it's low nutrition and relatively high calorie. It's also really easy to overeat (a cup of pasta or rice isn't very much at all!). I know a meal doesn't seem that satisfying without some sort of starch when you're used to it but try to lower the pasta and increase the leafy vegetables in your lunch.…
  • Good article. I don't like how most of the people here discuss fat loss as a simple equation as if we are machines. Divorcing weight loss from the emotional, psychological, and biological aspects will usually result in being unable to maintain for long term.
  • Too high in carbs.
  • Still pretty high calorie.
  • Yes, high quality plain Greek yogurt is VERY sour. I can pretty much only eat Fage with some artificial sweetener like sucralose or stevia. I used to add regular brown sugar but stopped that because it adds in empty calories and carbs.
  • I snack on nuts but I think it's a mistake for me. It's appropriate for someone who is fit/lean but for someone who is overweight or obese, nuts are too calorie dense in tiny portions.
  • Eating too many carbs can lead to fat gain since the high-carb foods are usually unsatieting and also high calorie. Carbohydrates are your body's prefered energy source but it can also very easily be stored in your fat cells if unused.
  • I see people claim partial or complete junk food cravings when they use Shakeology. I don't see how this could work beyond a placebo effect (assuming you don't have a conflict of interest i.e. being a "coach"). I've been drinking Shakeology once a day for two weeks and my junk food cravings are still the same.
  • I didn't mention it in my original post but I am also non-white. I've experienced a lot of racism among gay men (masked as "preference") but wasn't sure if I should mention it here since that is a whole separate rant that I can go off on. So yeah, being obese and non-white in the gay community has been an unfortunate…
  • Bears are hairy, very masculine, and usually fat. I'm just fat and don't have the other qualities needed to identify as "bear."
  • The strawberry cheesecake one is my favourite. It's too bad the bars are really high in carbs (like all protein bars).
  • Thank you for the responses detailing your experiences. Can you take a pre-workout every day or will you build up a tolerance too quickly? Is it like those other supplements where you have to stop altogether after some weeks due to tolerance issues? My gym has Cellucor's C4 Extreme on sale for a good price. I'm thinking of…
  • Alli is fine if you actually watch the fat content in your diet and to keep it low. Many people who use Alli/Orlistat continue to eat junk food high in fat which is why it gets a really bad rep. You will experience the negative side effects if you eat too much fat in one sitting. Alli's aid in fat loss is minimal though.
  • My weight loss has stalled/slowed since starting effexor. I didn't know this was even one of the possible side effects. I don't notice myself feeling more hungry but I do notice that it's hard to feel very full (even on filler low cal stuff like a ton of leafy greens).
  • I started weighing myself every day this week. It's kind of emotionally difficult to log it in MFP when the scale goes up. It sucks to see that graph suddenly go up. I'm trying to get over this and just see the scale number as data.
