ABOUT LOGGING ZUMBA CALORIES - It varies for everyone. The best bet is to get a heart rate monitor with a chest strap. If you want an average, I would say about 400-500 calories per hour, but if you really amp it up it can be as much as 1200 calories per class. It varies so widely for everyone because of different body…

So I have gotten into the habit of eating past my calorie limit on days that I have Zumba because I typically burn 700-800 calories. It would be impossible for me to eat them all back before bed if I didn't. But today, class was cancelled due to a coming snow storm so now I am stuck with no calories and no zumba! Time for…

I'm with muth3rluvx2 in that the class seems to really kick my butt more than the dvd's & video games, but that doesn't mean those don't work. I just think that it is more likely that you will really do the moves harder in a class with an instructor to mimic. melbreehutch - sorry I didn't see your message in time...how did…

Just thought that I would bump our post to the top for others to see. I had a very 'off' weekend because my twins just turned one and we had their birthday party! So needless to say I had some cake and chips and.... Back on the bandwagon tomorrow!
-
Listen to her, she has wise words! Just move your body and you will lose pounds. The steps come in time and practice!
-
I wish that exercise could get rid of twin skin! I am going to try to loose as much of my belly fast as possible so that at least I can look good in a one piece. I'm afraid my bikinis went away with my two bundles of joy :)
-
We have almost the exact same goals. Time to buddy up!
-
I agree! We have several larger women in our class and they all just LOVE it. They have already lost several pounds too! Please try it, you won't look back!
-
well, my pizza didn't matter because I really kicked it at Zumba tonight! We even ended class with a little bit of pilates and it was great! BUT now I am so far under my calories for today that I am going to need to eat again before bed.
-
meeee to StephJ - I love waiting to see if the number has gone down over a period of time. It just still blows my mind that a glass of water weighs so much!!

I don't know how I'd do it without my hrm. Before I got it, I was logging my zumba workouts at about 400 calories. Then the first time I wore my hrm it counted to 800 and I thought it must be wrong! But it wasn't, and I have gotten as many as 1200 but as few as 400 depending on the intensity of my workout. Now I know that…

ugh we DID have pizza last night for dinner. I stayed under my calories but my tummy was FEELING it today.. <shakes head...oooh why did I think that was OK?!>
-
you will. Just keep trying. It's inSANE how high your heart rate can get 'dancing' so make sure to take it down a notch if you have to! I always say that Zumba is a water friendly class too, so drink that water!
-
isn't it amazing how different instructors can be!? I have had some that were more fitness-y and some that were more dance-y. Both are great, I try to balance both in my class. I am curious about what you like or don't like about your specific instructors. What makes the perfect class for you? I try to give plenty of cues,…

talking about guys in class - my old class had several guys, some of which were older men and they really knew how to shake it! But on the OTHER hand, a few nights ago in my class, a guy came in who was claiming to be 'interested in class' and stood there watching the entire time. It made several of the women uncomfortable…

Someone else posted this article last night, and I too highly doubt that you can burn 300 calories in just 15 minutes. Very misleading unless you are using a very heavy kettle bell and have already warmed up.
-
these exercises look great and using a kettlebell is a great tool for strength training, though I do think that the author might be exaggerating a little the calories burned. 300 calories in 15 minutes is pretty unrealistic, but otherwise this is a great article! edit - my hubby just informed me that it is definitely…

you can do what I did: become certified and teach. Then you don't have to pay to go, you get PAID to go!! And it makes you stick to it because other people are relying on you to get their workout.
-
Well, now that we gathered up a group of people (and more are still welcome!) Why don't we start out with a little get to know you question. It can be a way to find out what we all have in common BESIDES weight loss. Weightloss is a great common goal, but finding friends on here is what will keep us going. SO: So tell me:…

I wanted to make a little note about those of you who feel that Zumba wouldn't work for you because you have 'two left feet' or no coordination. Guess what?! It doesn't matter! What is really important is that you keep your body moving and your heart rate up! No one is there to judge you or to tell you that you did it…

Also, she could have been referring to the first several weeks. Typically within the first 2-3 weeks of a new healthier lifestyle you will shed several pound per week in just water weight alone. The downside is that when you shed all of your excess water, you will hit a plateau. I think that you should stick to the 2 lb…

So glad to see everyone here! I think that if we keep motivating one another that we can eventually start showing each other our progress! i am excited because I finally lose 2 lbs! I've been back on the bandwagon for a couple of weeks and so it is nice to finally see the number go down!
-
Hey everyone! So glad to see so much interest. I forgot to introduce myself! I am Emily, I am first a mom to twins who will be 1 on Friday! Secondly I am a Zumba instructor and yes, it is definitely worth the hype. For those of you who were asking and don't know, Zumba is a latin dance based aerobics class that is so much…

You are so right!! My hubby keeps saying "but I think you look fine!" and "who are you trying to impress?!" and the truth is, ME I am trying to impress me and every other person I come into contact with each day!

alright friends, I am going to start a dated thread in the Motivation and Support section called "Fit by Summer - January" I will link back to this thread when I done. Feel free to go over there and tell us who you are, how you found mfp and what your story is. It will be great to get a group going for support etc.…
-
alright folks, then let's do it! Should we just call our group "Fit By Summer" or should we come up with something clever to keep going week after week?!
-
I'll join with you, or will join if you start one! I really want to look better by my anniversary in April, and decent in a bathing suit by summer! I've since started one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/155177-fit-by-summer-january
