To motivate myself to exercise I sign up for things. I started small with a 5k and I'm now training for a triathlon. I know that I have to get out and train so I'm ready for it!

I just signed up for my first Tri, and I also have The Fear! If I'm last to finish so what? I'm not in it to compete for prizes, I'm in it because I want to do (at least one) triathlon. I win if I get from the start to the finish. Once that one's done I expect I'll compete against myself to better my time when I do my next…

Age 43, my time was 30:24 (chip timed)

QFT! I don't know why people get so hung up on FRs. Invite who you want. Accept who you want. If you FR someone and they don't accept get over it! If you have to, you can always consider it their loss.

Congratulations. It sounds like you are taking control of your life. :flowerforyou:

My name is Maureen and I don't answer to anything else. The favourite alternative is 'Mo' which I really hate and won't answer to. The only thing worse is when people put 'big' in front of it. Yes, that's right, some people actually think I want to be spoken/referred to as "Big Mo"! :explode: (maybe I could persuade them…

I did c25k using the UK NHS program which is downloadable as podcasts. http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-5K-running-plan.aspx When I finished it I started using www.micoach.com which is available as an android app. It's much more than c25k - you can set up any of a number of different training programs.

Just in case it's useful to anyone else here are the results of my shopping trip. Speedo: don't do long length in the UK, unless you want to spend £££s on a competition race suit. Regular was too short for me. Looked at the sports tankini but the top was waaaaaay too short Adidas: could only find regular length and that…

Great job! You look totally different now and a lot younger than you did a year ago. :drinker:
-
Thanks Emuhawk. I saw a couple of long suits on the Speedo US site but can't find them on the UK site or in any UK retailers. :explode: This is SO FRUSTRATING! Any of you TTWs have any luck with regular length suits? Any recommendations?

Thanks for the replies so far. I'd already looked at Land's End (should have said) and there's no racerback in the tall. I hadn't heard of Athleta, but their range at the moment seems to be 1 baggy-*kitten* suit (reviews!) and a buttload of tankinis, and I think they are US only. Anyone know anything about the fit offered…

For now just getting from the start to the finish. Once I get one under my belt...who knows? I have to say that I'm enjoying the swimming, cycling and running so far though!

Most mornings I have 200g Total 0% greek yoghurt mixed with 40g Fruit 'n' Fibre and 40g fresh blueberries. I usually put a swirl of honey on top as well. 25g protein, delicious and around 350 cals.

Are you really great?
-
Congrats on your achievement! You are right - it CAN be done. All it really takes is the determination to see it through.

I'm sure I heard it from someone else on here but, don't reward yourself with food. That's what you do when you're training a pet. You're not a dog!

have you tried googling the model number?
-
No. that's a bit weird. The restaurant isn't in a Willy Wonka or Wizard of Oz theme park is it?

I've lost over 90lbs and over 99% of the exercise I did over that time was solo. I started off exercising at home on the PS3. Added walking. Added DVDs, again at home. It's only this year that I've ventured out in public. I did c25k (in the dark) and now I run 4 times a week, I cycle and I swim. You just have to bite the…

When I started in Jan 2011 I had to be really strict with myself. No alcohol, no junk food etc I also got the "you're no fun any more" type of comments from people and it did at times make it really tough. Eventually I developed a standard response when someone tried to encourage me to eat or drink something that didn't…

Be prepared. Remember that they won't just be looking for technical/work related knowledge, they're also looking at your personality to see if you will fit in with the people they have already. That means you have to be confident without being arrogant, and easy to talk to without being a blabbermouth. Make sure you're…

I recently graduated from c25k and was looking for something to take my running to the next level when I found www.micoach.com It has pretty much everything you could need to either get started with c25k or any other distance. You use your own music for the playlist and you can set your own timetable and define the number…

5k fun run in the morning and a 20k bike ride in the afternoon.

BMW usually come up with a good one, and this year it's perfect for MFP: http://bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/about/news/0,,1156__181267300_,00.html

I did just over 6k last night, I've got a 25 min run on tomorrow and a timed 5k on Sunday morning. I'm in!
-
that's great information firedude. I'm on the cusp of signing up for a tri at the end of June but it's a 750m open water swim, a hilly bike ride and a flat run. I'm not that worried about the run, but the swim is a bit daunting and WTF does 'hilly' really mean? I'm starting my swim training tomorrow and I WILL be…

I learned that fear of failure wasn't a good reason not to try.

I had a niggly knee last week so I didn't do the butt kicks I just did more skipping instead. The way I look at it cardio is cardio - as long as I was keeping my HR up I was doing ok.
