When it used to happen to me I'd politely refuse then point at myself up and down while saying "my body's a temple". Do this with a big grin every time. They'll soon expect the response and cool it on the (chicken) finger waving.

Thanks guys. :drinker: It's clear there are a few places I can make up time: 1. swim - hope to shave a couple of minutes off that over the next few months 2. T1 - bit of an anomaly due to the extra time to dry off before the compression socks could go on, but I could still have been quicker and tri-shoes would certainly…

That's a fantastic observation! I'm all over that!

I think that would depend on how fresh the zombie was.

You can google it and you'll find suggestions on how you can work out your own gait by looking at your shoes to see how they wear; looking at your barefoot footprints to see the weight distribution etc But IMO, gait analysis is best done by someone who knows what they are doing and can help you select the right shoe! There…
-
you say you're using "new sneakers". Are they running-specific shoes chosen to match your specific gait? If not then that could be the reason. It's not enough to have new shoes. You need the RIGHT shoes.

Welcome to MFP! There are loads of tall women here. Do a search in groups for 'Totally Tall' too!

Don't fall into the classic newbie trap of trying to do too much too quickly. With only 12lbs to lose in total 2lbs a week is probably a bit quick. I know 1200 cals a day made me miserable!

I've got frozen strawberries at home and was just thinking about subbing them in. It's happening for sure now!

the 2013 London Tri sprint is £82.50 and the Olympic is £90.50!! :noway: that's about $130 / $145.

I did that! Bought my house and got them to fit the kitchen 4" higher than standard. It's not nice having to stoop. Does make the wall cupboards difficult for visitors though  Did the same in the bathroom - the guys were working away when their boss came in and started giving them a hard time for putting the shower…

I think that's the point...

This happens ALL the time all over the world. Opening hours, health codes etc all impose rules and restrictions on businesses and they're usually decided on based on what's best for the majority. If you don't live in a cave in the middle of nowhere your "rights" as a business owner don't necessarily take precedence. Just…

I'm pretty sure they DO have excess skin and that's why they switch to t-shirts instead of skins for the boys/crop tops for the girls for the weigh-ins in the latter stages. Not that BL is an accurate indication of how most people will look - their weight loss is seriously accelerated compared with the norm. I've lost…

Yes. Everyone doing the same job gets the same pay. The smokers do more hours, since some of their time is spent smoking, not working.
-
Wouldn't be much of a perk for the non-smokers if they lost money - they don't. I appreciate that it wouldn't work in an environment where you get paid based on the hours you are clocked-in.
-
I have a friend whose workplace lets you work shorter hours if you don't smoke - makes up for the smokers' smoke breaks.
-
FWIW, MDWilliams is correct. Anecdotal evidence is not "evidence" of anything. I'm not really interested in arguing about studies though - I don't smoke or subject myself to 2nd hand smoke so the results of any study would be irrelevant to me so I'm not interested enough to read them all and make my mind up as to whether…

When did I say anyone was forcing me to do anything It is the case, however, that smokers smell bad. Not just when they are actually smoking, but all day, from the first cig to the last. I work with a smoker and she goes out to smoke. I can smell it on her from across the desk or when walking behind her in the office. I…
-
I don't think smokers are selfish scum but I don't think they're 'persecuted' either. I think part of the problem for non-smokers is that cigarette smoke really is disgusting. It smells bad and clings to your clothes so it makes you smell bad. I don't like spending time in a smoky atmosphere because I find it so…

don't forget gloves and a hat! Bio_fit is right about the layering. Just remember that you'll be running so you don't want to overdo it. It'll probably take you a few outings to figure out the right strategy, but a wicking base layer should be your start point. Edit: just remember that if you wear a cheap waterproof outer…
