Not really sure myself but one some of the street names are sugar and rock candy. I was using to make the absurd point. However, based on some of the responses to this post I think I might get actual argument as to which of the three is worse for you....

A link to the National Institute of Health's library of medical studies is not any better than the links to articles written by authors of commercial websites with no citations or peer reviewed research?

Yeah completely missed the sugar thing. Are you sure it didn't say something like sucralose (which unlike sucrose is an artificial sweetener and doesn't have calories.)

Flavor does not necessarily equal calories. Think of black coffee. Love it or hate it, you certainly can't deny that it has a lot of flavor. It has essentially no calories. (I know 1-2 cal per 8oz depending on the study but that's hardly a rounding error in the results)

Good luck finding that. When you find it let me know if its laying next to "the definitive proof of starvation mode" or "how eating less than 6 times a day will cause your metabolism to start punching you in the kidneys".

Just get what you think tastes the best and use it sparingly. We could go six hundred rounds on the carcinogenic properties of equal. Or if splenda= poison (loved that thread). But seriously sweeteners of any kind should be such a small part of your daily diet anyway that it matters very little if its pure sugar,…

You can. However, it certainly doesn't mean that you should. People that starve lose weight and if that's your entire goal then starvation will work. On the other hand you will likely lose a ton of muscle in the process and not like the results so much (as well as expose your self to consuqeunces from a lack of viatmens…

A lot of the people supporting the theory of 'starvation mode' and to a lesser extent 'frequency of meals' use anecdotal analogies to prove their point. Ex. Most people I know that are skinny eat several meals a day. Therefore, eating several meals a day is the best way to lose wieght. (why this logic is flawed) Most…

This is also a myth. If it works for you great, but there is no evidence(i.e. scientific, peer-reviewed studies with repeatable consistent results) to support that it has any statistically significant metabolic benefits.

It is a myth, much like the Unicorn or the Pegasus. So if you can avoid the door to Narnia in the back of your closet you should be able to avoid it entirely. As far as what Matt said about starving yourself and avoiding LBM loss, that is good advice to follow, but don't be afraid of the 'starvation mode' boogyman. Yes…

When I was on my honeymoon last month and my bride wanted to go on a Hawaiian island horseback ride at the kualoa ranch. We got up to the ranch all ready to have this great experience and I found out that the weight limit was 230lbs and I was registering a good 270ish at the time. Now "too fat to ride the horses" is kinda…

Plenty of other denominations including some Lutheran's observe lent. I remember it from my Lutheran church growing up.

If you want a really in-depth breakdown of the answer to your question. Check out the article below. Short answer is that it does matter where the calories come from long term for overall nutrition and meal satisfaction, but from a pure thermodynamic perspective a calorie is a calorie is a calorie. Note that there is a…
