  • A calorie is a calorie in terms of weight loss. As for "health" depends on what your goals are, how frequent the fast food, and what else you eat when you aren't having the fast food.
  • No preference. I eat maybe one donut a year and I don't drink coffee :-). I have had a few of Dunkins breakfast food offerings and they are ok but not any better than I can easily make at home. We don't have a Krispy Kreme around here but I have been when traveling for work.
  • As a single person portioning out single servings and then freezing also saves me from having to eat the same thing for weeks on end. Right now I have 12 or so servings of Italian beef, 3 days worth of breakfast casserole, 8 servings of chicken enchilada soup, 40 zucchini Meatballs, 7 pesto pizza Rollups, 10 jalapeno corn…
  • Mine is set to sedentary and I have my Fitbit connected. It adjusts calories accordingly. I know some have little success with that but for me it seems to be spot on. I put sedentary because I would rather see positive adjustments than negative.
  • My 5 year old niece always requests black beans whenever possible. She will eat those anytime. I am not sure where she acquired her love but she could have worse favorite foods!
  • Usually those containers are washable/freezeable/microwaveable so they are definitely reused. And when you see 5-7 of them lined up, they are usually for the week. That way people can just grab and head out to work. I've been using containers like that to make my own frozen dinners to take to work. Same concept but I put…
  • There are 350 cals in your 1 cup uncooked rice...let's say it makes 4 cups cooked. You eat 1 cup of the 4 cups cooked. You ate 1/4 of the cooked rice, and 1/4 of the calories contained within, so you ate 350/4 or 87.5 cals. Change 4 to be however many cups of cooked rice the one cup of dry made. Weighing would be more…
  • Taco Bell: 3 crunchy tacos McDonalds: Small plain cheeseburger (I don't care for ketchup, not leaving it off for nutritional reasons). Sometimes I get a small fry. Usually the fries are awful and I only eat like two though...not wasting my cals! Subway: 6 in Rotisserie chicken sub, add cheese, all veggie but banana peppers…
  • What do you normally eat for dinner/supper? I usually just take leftovers for lunch the next day.
  • Too artificial and sweet tasting for me.
  • Actually, no it is not all there is. Body composition tests anyone? BMI was created as a way to track obesity in a large population. The statistician who created it (in the 1800s) even said it cannot and should not be used at an individual level.
  • I like overnight oats. Don't care for hot oatmeal. Do like it in breakfast muffins or baked or in cookies.
  • If I were you I would just let things balance back out when you get home. You will have enough to worry about while doing the much needed work there. If you are doing lots of manual/physical labor then the cals may be spot on to at least maintain current weight. And like others said, you don't have to eat everything.
  • I don't. But all my food at the grocery store, and I don't subscribe to powders and whatnot.
  • 22 pounds down in 3 months on 50 percent carbs. I think it is working just fine for me, thank you. There is no one way to lose weight and peoples bodies are different so lumping everyone together is ridiculous. By the way, my fasting blood sugar is in the high 70s and all other numbers are excellent as well. I'll keep…
  • I think that is the new laws rolling out. That manufacturer is just ahead of the game.
  • Glass container or ziploc bag in a yogurt or some otherwise disposable plastic container (washed out peanut butter jar reserved for this purpose is the best I have found).
  • Great site! I am still reading through some of the linked stuff. The thing I will note is that people who lose on fad diets seem to think that since that diet worked, that is the only diet that works. Not true. Also many of the studies for specific ways of eating (low carb, low fat, etc) are only looking at that way of…
  • Usually if I eat that much at once (done it a few times, especially when eating out and I didn't pick the place) I find that I am generally not hungry the rest of the day anyway. If I am I will still eat, maybe on the lighter end, and make up cals over the course of a few days, maybe go for an extra walk. I usually look at…
  • I used pan for years to cook rice with no trouble at all. Then we moved to a house with an electric stove (instead of gas). I don't know how many pots of rice I burned with that. I have since bought a cheap Japanese rice cooker and our rice adventures have been heaven. Part of that was me adjusting to electric stove, I am…
  • I make my own and top with yogurt and/or fresh fruit. Sometimes a drizzle of melted peanut butter. I don't use any special "healthy" recipe though. If I want a waffle, I want a waffle, not some healthified knockoff masquerading as a waffle :-). (I have never used syrup of any kind on anything, even as a kid...way too sweet…
  • I do this too. Just make sure you rinse the bowl with cold water after eating. Stuck on egg comes right off. If you use hot water, it cooks on and is a pain to get clean!
  • I don't log water. Just make sure you drink enough to stay hydrated but not so much your urine is completely clear (pale yellow is ideal). But, I don't have a problem with getting in water. If that is a challenge of yours then it makes sense to track.
  • I don't watch it because the majority of the stuff I log doesn't have added sugar split out from natural so how would I know for sure which one for sure something was (unless I made it myself and put sugar in...only time I really do that is when making overnight Oats in put in around 1/2 tbsp or a little less maple syrup.…
  • Government money, government rules. Don't like it, get off government money. Problem solved.
  • My "normal", even at 244 pounds, is low 90s over low 60s. I can't stand up fast or I get dizzy, but otherwise I am fine. I think everyone's body varies with BP.
  • Homemade meatballs, corn/spinach/tomato salad, and either rice or pasta (haven't decided yet).
  • Interesting. I will have to look into this further. My doctor recommends I take a multi-vitamin and a baby asprin every day. But I am also not sure I trust them for nutrition advice :-).
  • I would just budget in whatever sweet thing you are wanting and call it good. Artificial anything is just as bad for you, if not moreso, than sugar (depends on how you define bad).
  • I am doing this too. As a single person, the 3 cup Pyrex rectangles are my go to. Stack nicely, hold about the perfect amount for me, and can be frozen, microwaved, and dishwashed.
