  • same thing here. was on a few years ago under a different username. now i'm back with maybe about 10 to lose this time. i enjoy running and eating good food. like you, i have a really hard time restricting so i try to enjoy in moderation . feel free to add me if you want to!
  • i am about 5'5 ish... lost 30 at one time, gained some back now trying to lose about 7-10
  • that's funny... yeah i eat a lot. i also run a lot. so be it! ;) i think it's great.
  • Nice job! that is great for a first 10k!
  • also same thing everyone else says - dont' eat a lot the am before... maybe something small you are used to. you want to not be starving but also not full. i try to eat something like a banana and energy bar about 2 hours before the race. then after the race, i can eat more food! :) same thing with not trying out brand new…
  • i have done two 10k races, several 4 miles, and two 5 milers... not quite the "expert" on 10k but from my experience the best thing is don't start out too fast. pick a pace group (even better if you have pacers) that you can reasonably line up with. for instance, if you do 10 minute miles for your 5k, maybe hang out with…
  • I did c25k in June of 2012 and I now have been running regularly for almost 2 years and have done over a dozen races from my first 5k in August 2012 to several 10ks and even a 5k on a cruise. It works if running turns out to be something you enjoy. Sign up for a 5k a few months from now and it will help motivate you.
  • I would tell you to not count calories so it doesn't bring anxiety. I used to have a problem with this too, and the solution has been less control and no tracking. The binges were a result of over tracking, over thinking and guilt. Love yourself and step away from what makes you feel bad.
  • seems like there is a club of us who feel that it starts to become too much, too obsessive, whatever it is for us personally that it doesn't work. If someone wants to count i have no problem with it. i just dont' like the judgment that we can't use fitness pal in the way we want to get support without counting. different…
  • I used to think I needed to count as well but it turns out I don't. it was just an unrealistic fear I had that I would automatically gain all the weight back if i stopped counting. i cant' imagine a life where i have to worry about calories 24 hours a day. it would cause me too much stress. the method i have works really…
  • I have maintained for over a year within a 5 lb range (normal BMI) without counting calories . I do it by following a system during the week. I dont' eat sweets during the week. I don't get second helpings. i don't eat snacks. (No snacks, no sweets, no seconds on weekdays) i eat three meals a day. each meal fits on a small…
  • i don't do it anymore because i found it to be detrimental to my self esteem. i had maintained a normal BMI for quite some time and all it was doing was causing me to beat myself up and then eat more . so for some of us, when we find it is causing more harm, it's ok to stop. you could set a plan about just one small plate…
  • one thing that triggered mine was artificial sweeteners. splenda (sucaralose), aspartame, saccharine, sugar alcohols (maltitol, xylitol, sorbitol)... if you changed your diet and are eating "diet" or "sugar free" this could be the case. it was for me. maybe for you. maybe not.
  • honestly it might be better to hang out at your current weight for a while. sometimes the body just rests at a certain weight for a while and then if you are meant to lose weight again you will. usually for most of us we want to be at a weight that is too low. i wanted to be at 120 lb but my body wants to be at 130-135.…
  • for me, yes it's a bad idea. i dont' know you personally but you get to decide if seeing fluctuations freaks you out. because everyone is different with that and what it does for their morale. yes, you will see fluctuations. could be as much as 2-3 lb between days. doesn't mean you gained 2-3 lb overnight. just happens…
  • See, you can take a reservation. Anyone can take a reservation. The problem is that you can't keep the reservation - Jerry at car rental place
  • Schmoopsie, no you're schmoopsie... what is it with these two. they actually had a five minute discussion over who was actually called schmoopsie. - George
  • "Festivus for the rest of us" - Frank Costanza "so who has sex with the chicken? you have the rooster, the hen and the chicken. the rooster goes with the hen, so who is having sex with the chicken" - Frank Costanza "they are all chickens. the rooster has sex with them all" - Susan's Dad "that's perverse" - Frank Costanza…
  • wow some of you all are pretty harsh. my experience after being into fitness for several years is if you want to have something you enjoy, have it! just have it in moderation. it takes practice to learn that. restrictive dieting for a long time usually results in the binge mentality. when you deprive yourself forever, you…
  • Just keep lifting heavy! You will get there
  • i think the biggest thing for me was it got to be a chore and then i alternated between feeling great for reaching my goal and feeling bad when i was slightly over. Just can't live like that. I pretty much know what i need to do at this point after being on here this long . i do focus on protein and avoiding sweets as much…
  • So pleased to meet others in maintenance who have given up tracking. Thanks for the friend requests.
  • Don't know because I don't weigh myself until the end of January! That sounds about right to me. Why obsess over it! :)
  • Unfortunately, this website is not for everyone. For some, it can turn into obsession or make an eating disorder. For others, they don't have that problem. We are all different. My only advice is if it's bothering you, step away from it and try to do something else that will help you feel good about yourself.
  • I think it's more this response. It could be a problem for someone but not for everyone . If it interferes with your life, it could be a problem. but we are all different with this . Some of us need to do it, for others it can become problematic. I know for me it was an obsession and that's why I don't use this website for…
  • wanted to jump in on this post - i am looking for friends who don't count calories and just have a healthy lifestyle. if anyone can relate to feeling "obsessed" and wants a break from it, please feel free to friend me! I used to be like this too and I realized for the past year the freedom of not counting. I have learned…
  • Have to tell you, I feel exactly the same! I would love to add some friends who are committed to being healthy but don't want to count calories. I tried it from August 2011-Feb 2012, lost a great deal of weight and then became obsessive. So after that I made some changes and it's been great to step away from counting!…
  • I don't! it's the best thing I ever did (or didn't do). now i just eat 3 sensible meals a day with lots of protein. i avoid sweets, seconds and snacks during the week and allow myself some freedom on the weekend. i exercise 6 days a week. works for me! no need to create obsessions in my mind or feel bad if i "went over…
