  • He is correct about his deadlift days/wk, he will DL 2x one week and 1x the next.
  • You have it right, and it really got started, from what I can tell, on bodybuilding.com which is the same reason that there isn't any logical behind it. They also use poverty for squats and deadlifts, not quite as often, but enough.
  • I don't understand the answers about logging it as daily activity. I get that most of it is daily activity but when she goes out for extra activity (out for a roll???) she would log it the same way anyone else would log taking a walk. I have no idea how accurate 60-80 cal/10 minutes is but maybe start there and see how you…
  • Great advice for getting a felony. Responding to cat calls and other verbal harassment with disproportionate deadly force will land you behind bars. Even just concealing a knife may land you in jail without even using it. A gun would be even worse, anyone with a CCW knows that verbal harassment isn't a reason to shoot…
  • Are you talking about a squat rack or Smith machine? I would just deadlift or bench in the squat rack if it is a true squat rack. If it is a Smith them I won't comment and fully understand why there are no barbells.
  • No, still have not gotten a new strap. I should, thanks for the reminder.
  • I did it for about 9 months including some resets for crap form. Stick with the power cleans and add them in when prescribed. There is a method and reason for them and it is detailed in the book. They aren't as hard to learn as people make them out to be. Read, watch his video, practice. Record the lifts and review them to…
  • Shoulder holster? I bought one just for motorcycle rides. The only drawback is not having a way to cover when taking my riding jacket off to go eat somewhere. Not a big fan of OC but I could if I had no option.
  • Oh, I got your point and agree with programming for PL vs general strength. I just couldn't (and still can't) tell which program he was using, SS or SL. The text says SS but the sets and reps say SL.
  • The OP said it was Starting Strength and not SL but is doing 5x5 and not 3x5 has me confused. If the OP is doing SS then it looks like he or she didn't follow the program when selecting the starting weights and just used the bar to start. The starting and ending numbers for squat and DL are roughly correct if following the…
  • The squat itself looks fine, maybe a touch lower, hard to tell for sure with the camera angle. Two things stood out to me that you are getting away with now but might cause problems at heavier weights. When you unrack you have a split stance and should approach with feet side by side in more of a squat position and squat…
  • On the positive side, at least he showed his knowledge up front rather than 6 months or a year down the road.
  • MyBars are so good I look forward to them. The Quest Hero bars are pretty good too.
  • Anytime Fitness. No real cons other than the 31-33mm bars. Nobody really uses the 2 squat racks and all gravitate to the Smith machine so I have never had to wait for a rack. Sometimes I am completely alone like it is my own private gym. Rockbot so I can listen to music I like, 24/7 and they even track PR's. Chalk is fine…
  • I try to be ready to sleep as soon as I get on bed. I take a niacin at night so hopefully asleep before it starts to work otherwise I have to endure the tingling and flush before I sleep
  • Hyde or sometimes GAT, depends on the day and energy level.
  • Pro Supps My Bar are excellent on taste and 220 calories.
  • PESscience coffee protein powder. It is a protein coffee that you mix with hot water.
  • What is your carry piece, that will also help us with ideas. My wife has a Flash Bang but I don't think she has used it yet. For accessibility in a pack with a zipper you could loop a large strap through the zipper so you can get your hands on it easily. The compression shorts and leggings with elastic "holsters" might be…
  • ProSupps, My Bar, Salted Caramel Peanut Crunch protein bars. Sweet, salty, chocolate, peanuts, protein and 220 calories.
  • Scivation Xtend is pretty cheap with good flavor, I am partial to the mango but the lemonade is pretty good. Same with Controlled Labs Purple Wraath although it is a bit tart. Raw BCAA's have a bitter taste so the flavors tend to be really really sweet or a sour flavor to mask the bitterness. These won't do much for energy…
  • I don't drink coffee or anything that has a coddle taste but I know others like the PEScience Cafe Series which are protein powder coffees. Heard good things but no direct experience.
  • The new(ish) Quest cereal bars are completely different from the regular Quest bars. The waffle bar tastes like a waffle soaked in butter and syrup. Cinnamon roll is good as well, almost like a Cinnabon but not quite that sweet. The chocolate bar is an Oreo cookie type taste. Venture bars are another beast entirely. They…
  • I like to fit protein shakes or bars into my daily calories as part of my meals (just like chicken or broccoli) or as a dessert. Some shakes and bars taste so good that I can cut out actual sweets without feeling deprived and still meet calories goals. As a bonus I get protein.
  • The only time I ever got annoyed at gym noise is when the guy next to me was slamming 225 doing some sort of touch and go. I expect some noise but he was actively pushing the bar down from the top. I am positive that it would have been quieter to just drop them from the top.
  • Double check your daily calorin count and make sure you weigh and log everything. Re-check your daily calorie needs to make sure you are at the right intake. It will go down as you lose weight. Evaluate your exercise calorie burn as it may have gone down as you got fitter. And lost weight. Aim for a lower weight loss goals…
  • A video would help a lot. When my hips were shooting up it was because I was dropping my hips during the setup at the last minute. You might focus on that or lift your hips a bit and lock them in place before you lift. There are a few videos, I think even one by Alan Thrall, that cover this. I think it is called A deadlift…
  • I am confused by what you are trying to say in this thread. CICO relates to weight loss alone and you keep bringing health into the discussion and not tying them together. If I want to lose weight I must burn more calories than I consume, period. "Quality" foods don't allow me to eat more than I burn and still lose weight…
  • When there is nobody to spot you the cage works great for bench press. The deadlifter was in front of the cage deadlifting, nothing wrong there. If it is anything like my gym there are no extra barbells so benching or deadlifting in or out of the cage ends with the same result since the bar is in use. Doesn't sound like…
  • Cumin and olive oil baked on sweet potato slices goes right in my belly.
