  • Find your own version of eating clean. It's disordered eating on the part of the trainer to tell you that you can eat only a certain type of bread and only cottage cheese for your dairy. Listen to the success stories here and make your decision about what works for you. Good luck!
  • Just curious about the title of your post...it implies you've never been overweight or obese. So have you ever had to lose weight?
  • Congratulations! What a great accomplishment! You look great : )
  • If I were single, I would definitely date someone my height (5'7") or a little shorter.
  • Fantastic job! Congratulations!
  • I think the norm is to want kids, which doesn't mean you have to want them. But try to be more understanding of your mother-in-law. It might be rude of her to ask in your view, but it's completely typical of most in-laws to want grandchildren. So it's not that she's trying to make you do something you don't want to do, or…
  • I weigh daily to keep me motivated and honest. If I go too long without weighing, I can easily regain what I've lost.
  • I just posted...don't make any foods forbidden...my friend at work told me about her mother wouldn't let her have candy or cookies growing up. My friend has a major sweet tooth now, and told me when she was a child, she would go to friends' and neighbors' houses...yes, asking for sweet treats!
  • At 10, your daughter is going to be going through puberty if she hasn't yet. A lot of girls put on weight in the midsection before puberty. My daughter did, and then in about a year, she grew 6 inches taller and is almost 5'7" now. She lost most of her tummy. I did not do anything to make her lose it. I tried to encourage…
  • Try "Eat More, Weigh Less" (the book by Dr. Dean Ornish). Also Rodale Press has some good books, which include vegetarian recipes. I'm not a vegetarian but I'm starting to see there are more creative and delicious things I can try that happen to be vegetarian.
  • I didn't get fat eating fruit. And, I'm losing eating a lot of it. For a very small group, cutting back on fruit might help but for the rest of us, we sometimes struggle to eat enough. I don't eat enough of it unless I try, since I prefer vegetables.
  • When I was growing up, my mom used to slice cucumbers very thin and soak them in cold water in the refrigerator. She added some salt to the water, so the cucumbers would soak that up. They were delicious.
  • When you can: stand instead of sitting, and walk instead of standing. Even if it's just a couple of minutes. Take things in small doses. Do you have any stairs you can climb? Even if it's one flight at work, try it once a day, then build up. I actually started walking DOWN stairs at work. 7 flights, instead of the…
  • Sometimes you just know that there's a connection. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  • I'm sorry you're going through this. While I've never experienced this myself, I can tell you that you are suffering and your doctor should help you. Please call a different doctor, or a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. There is a lot of help and you deserve someone to take the time to listen to you and help…
  • Any greens, with craisins, walnuts, blue cheese, lots of scallions and grape tomatoes (usually cut in half). With raspberry vinaigrette. Or a different version, use chicken and red grapes and adjust the other ingredients.
  • Great job! You look as if you've lost 50 lbs, not just 25.
  • Try a fruit smoothie...refreshing and easy. But you won't feel like you're having a meal, even though you can make a meal out of a smoothie, depending on what you put into it.
  • Well, Dubya has the record for that one. No way Obama can catch up. Foiled again.
  • Just wanted to add that I'm in the same boat. I am heavier...got down to 229 in April (high of 263 in 2009). But like a bungee cord, I keep going up and down. Went as high as 236 the other day and am down to 232. Some of it's TOM. Another way to look at is, this is a period of successful maintenance. Your body is getting…
  • #2 is one of mine, too! I never had the broken elbows, though. Ouch!
  • 1. I can write (in cursive) with my feet. 2. I used to Dumpster dive and found great stuff including antiques. 3. I've been to 39 US states and 10 countries (not including US). 4.I like to people watch and listen to other people's dialogue. 5. Someday I'm going to publish a novel.
  • A couple of things come to mind: if you're in your 40s as I am, some hair thinning is normal. Thyroid disorders (even those that are borderline and don't show up in bloodwork) can cause thinning. Stress, of course, is one culprit. Extremely low-fat diets can also contribute to the problem. I noticed my hair growing in a…
  • How about a wrap, but using lettuce instead of bread. I also like shredded chicken on a slider roll...you can either microwave or eat cold. Then I also bring grape or cherry tomatoes, baby organic carrots, and a clif z bar (for kids). Shredded chicken...skinless, boneless chicken breasts in the crockpot with Frank's Hot…
  • I know what you mean. But maybe your motivation declining later in the day is related to being hungry or tired. When I started losing weight, I remade my breakfast. I wasn't eating anything terrible, but I started with making fruit smoothies. Now almost every day, I eat about the same thing: English muffin with poached egg…
  • Even if he's a bartender, calling female co-workers "babe" and "hon" isn't recommended. Even though no one objects, there might be someone who DOESN'T like it. It's irritating if you don't like it, and might be considered sexist, but that depends. There's a woman at work who calls everyone "hon," and everyone dislikes it.…
  • I bought an air popper, and I love having air popped popcorn with different seasonings. One thing I really like is Old Bay seasoning, which is usually used for seafood. It's salty but it also has a little bite to it. Sometimes I use it alone, other times, I'll melt a little Smart Balance spread and pour it over the…

  • You could come up with a compromise...are you logging your food? Plan on having a beer or two, or whatever when you go out, but log it. Make sure you eat enough while you're drinking, too. And, for the summer, decide if you want to gain weight, lose weight, or maintain. It's okay not to lose for a period of time. I…
