Happiness is a new pair of kicks!

Doesn't look like I'm going to make it this month. I'd forgot about the guys trip last weekend when I set my goal and missing that long run killed me. Then we had ice until today. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow...but am going to come up about 18 miles short of my 70 mile goal. My first HM is the first weekend in April, so…

I use the endomondo app, but no HRM. Really like endomondo - lots of data, rock solid and links to MFP

Comment above is right on point. It's all relative. Unless you're trying to go out and win/medal in an event, it's all about what a fast pace is for you. (what your goal is, what you need to PB, etc.) One I realized that there are lots of runners in front of me and behind me at every event, I just worried about competing…

Wow! The dog encounters are eye opening. It's something I've never even thought about. I run around the different neighborhoods in our suburb and never even thought about a dog encounter. I've seen plenty of dogs out, but only one that wasn't leashed. And he just wanted to run next to me for awhile before he got bored. Not…

Yep, if you really want to run it, you'll need to get out more than once a week. A regular C25k program is about 30 minutes a day a few days a week. Is there any way you could out out just a couple of more times a week?

I think it would be harder. I made the mistake of going in two stages. I lost a lot of weight last August-December, then told myself my goal was to maintain through the holidays and then knock out the final 10-12 lbs to get to my goal weight. After being VERY stringent about everything I ate, I moved to maintenance mode…

Congratulations!!!! I definitely second (third, fourth?) the suggestions to get in a race. It's a whole different dynamic running outside with a big group than running by yourself...especially on a treadmill. I'm betting you find the jump to 10k much easier than the progression of the C2k5 program. To me the C2k5 program…

Definitely look at last year's models to save some $$$. Normally the changes are nominal, but occasionally they'll change something big. I overpronate as well. After a bad case of post tib tendonitis, I learned I needed a stability shoe. I got fit at a couple of running stores, bought too many running shoes (i have a…

I use the 'Metronome' app by Peter Deelstra. You can start the metronome app, then start your music. You can adjust the metronome volume so it's just loud enough to hear behind your music. Before I used it, I was at about 150-155 steps a minute. It definitely made me shorten my stride. Happy b-day to your twins, I hope…

Warmer temps and maybe a few too many cocktails on the golf…

I recently took a Good Form Running class at a local running store. It's based on information on the GFR website. one of the things it talked about was cadence and the impact it has on mechanics and speed. It showed how most great runners run at 180 steps per minute. We watched a split screen video of someone running a 12…

i know where you're coming from. Remember a few months ago when a 3-4 mile run seemed like a long one. :)

Good to see you back on the road. Hopefully you remain pain free and are good to go again tomorrow!

Awesome!!! Congratulations!!!!

Why doesn't the .3 count??

Good advice above. My mindset on long run days is totally different than other days. It's about clearing my mind and getting from point to point. If I think it's X many more miles or X many more minutes it seems like a chore.

I started running last August as a jump start to losing weight. I started with the standard c25k program. Ran my first race in September and kept on adding time and distance. I went from hating running and the idea of running a mile being tortue to loving it. I get a love the feeling of accomplishment from seeing the miles…

April 4th feels like it's coming faster than I excepted. I'm on plan....but really need to dial it in. I ended up switching events after reading a lot of bad reviews of the race I had signed up for. (Registration fiascos, wrong mileage, running out of water, shady neighbordhood, hilly course). The new event is a week…
