  • first HM is 4/26. I'm going with 70 - as I'll probably go light the week of and last few days of the month...
  • I dunno. I guess I think of running like any other sport your conditioned to do. You shouldn't feel pain or soreness unless you get injured. If you're not conditioned to do it,or go past what your body is ready for - you stand a higher chance of getting injured. You'll hear a lot of expert runners say to ramp up mileage…
  • i'm running my first 4/26......doing Higdon as well....
  • I have no great answer...but I understand your frustration. When you eat clean day after day and the scale doesn't move, it can be really discouraging. Sometimes we all hit wall - but usually not right out of the gate. The only thing I would suggest, and I have no idea if it would have an impact, is to take a look at the…
  • You need to feed your body when you're burning extra calories running. You'll still be a eating at an overall deficit to lose weight....especially if you don't eat back all of the calories you burn. You can use MFP or a simple calculator like the one on Runner's World to figure out how much you're burning...…
  • 3/1 - 3.1 on the treadmill (see what I did there...) 3/2 - Rest 3/3 - 5.1 - got an outdoor run in before the ice hits again 3/6 - 2.3 - limited amount of time before I needed to take my son to practice 3/7 - 7.3 3/8 - Rest 3/9 - Strength training 3/10 - Travel day for work - couldn't run 3/11 -3.0 able to squeeze out 3 as…
  • Agree with supporting you local running store by making the purchase their after you are fit. I consider the extra cost as a well earned 'fee' for a personal service.

  • @akirkman86‌ - Sound like we are on the exact same week of Hal Higdon. But you're doing it pushing a stroller!!! Very impressive...that's gotta count for the extra bonus mileage when you push him up hills!
  • I know a few of us in the monthly running challenge have been using the Hal Higdon HM training program. It's basically 4 running days per week (3 consecutive weekdays and long run on the weekend). Sounds like it'll fit what your doing.....
  • @SLHysell‌ - Fantastic job on the first HM!!! And with no ear buds?!? Great job!!!
  • I agree totally in principle with this. Unfortunately i got conflicting advice and have already purchased 4 pairs of shoes from my local shops. (Including the push back to a neutral show that resulted in immediate reinjury) Ymmv
  • I'd do some research on it and go very slow and easy if you try it. It seems like the response to barefoot/minimalist running is mixed. Some people swear by it. Others say it was bad news for them. Even those who say it worked, give the warning to ease into it.
  • Like others have said, this is very individual subject. What works for one person, is terrible for someone else. Some people feel great in a wide range of shoes....some only find a few that they are looking with. I'm one of those still looking. I started with Brooks Ghost 6's. I absolutely loved those shoes. I still had my…
  • @daisy471 great job on the PR, especially when you were under the weather!
  • Absolutely. Follow a plan like c25k and build up your mileage slowly. Maybe joining the monthly running challenge threads as well. I couldn't run 2 minutes last August and am doing my first HM next month. Advice you've heard on this thread that common is avoid the temptation to run to fast/much too soon.
  • Join the monthly running challenge thread on here. Lots of great people, encouragement, etc. It's like being in a virtual running club. There are people of all levels, from those just graduating from a c2k5 and doing 15-20 miles a month to running machines knocking out 120+ miles per month.

  • Sorry to hear about all the back troubles out there. As many have mentioned, it doesn't seem like folks with back problems truly recover, they just learn to manage as best they can. I was wondering if anybody out there has hit a bit of a running wall before. Last November-December, I was running 20-23 miles a week. Usually…
  • Booo! I paused Endomondo when I got to a traffic light today. and forgot to restart it. Didn't realize it until the end of my run..... :#

  • 3/1 - 3.1 on the treadmill (see what I did there...) 3/2 - Rest 3/3 - 5.1 - got an outdoor run in before the ice hits again @Nottafattie‌ - if you keep up that pace, you're gonna have to up that mileage goal. :)
  • I think a lot of us who started running did it for the reasons you said. It was a way to accelerate weight loss, burn more energy, get more net carbs etc. It was a means to an end. But along the way, it somehow became fun (I would have NEVER imagine saying that before August of last year) and the net carbs were more a…
  • 3/1 - 3.1 on the treadmill (see what I did there...) @Runningmischka‌ - that's fantastic that you're running all the way up until you can't anymore. :)
  • @fabnine‌ , thanks the video, good stuff! I really want to get my form corrected so I can get back to the shoes I loved....
  • I LOVED the Ghost model. It's what I learned to run in, logged a ton of miles. But I always had sore ankles/arches the next day. Turns out I pronate too much for a neutral shoe. I've tolerated the Adrenaline, but they don't feel nearly as good as the Ghosts. I took a good form running class here recently and have been…
  • I completely bombed March. I was out of town last weekend and the snow/ice did me in this week. (much respect to you northern runners who run in this all the time!) I was supposed to run my first HM on April 5, but had a conflict and had to switch to a different event on April 26. So this is the month I really need to keep…
  • Funny you mention that. I was put in the Adrenaline (after problems with the Ghost) and am always trying to replace. them. I was thinking of the Revena....
  • Lots of folks who used one of the various apps out there. There is also a c25k group on here. The program definitely works....lots of us went from non-runners to runners with it...
