  • I have noticed a correlation between spending a lot of time on the MFP forums or especially fitness Tumblrs in the afternoon and binging at night. I haven't figured out why this happens, though. I suspect that the fixation on getting exercising and controlling my eating makes me feel overwhelmed and my emotions lash out.
  • Sleigh Bells always get me pumped! They also do a good job of drowning out Jillian's voice when I've had enough of it. Right now, "Bitter Rivals" gets my energy up in particular. Dancing at my desk just thinking about it, actually. Oh, let me add a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr-ahiFDkts
  • This is both inspiring and well-written. It was really fun to read! Congratulations on your progress and good luck with Phase 2!
  • Once you get over the ickiness of cockroaches, that is pretty darn adorable. As for me, my mom used to tell me that if someone goes to bed with wet hair, they would wake up blind.
  • “Circuit training” under cardiovascular exercises.
  • I agree that you should just log it and move on. When I overeat, I log the foods and then eat under my calorie goal for the next few days until it evens out. So if I overeat by 500 calories on one day, I would try to go under by 100 calories for the next five days. If you don't want to do this, just writing it off should…
  • I tend to avoid it, but not because it's a worse time to eat than any other. When I crave food late at night, it's usually because of stress or negative emotions... Thus, binge-eating. I don't see any problems with it for people without this tendency, and I make exceptions for nights out with friends.
  • Posting to follow. These sound amazing!
  • But overthinking is what I do!!! Thanks. :) Nomming on a pork bun as I type.
  • I was always under the impression that at my size, one should lose weight at a slower pace. I'm just so used to taking forever to lose weight (30 pounds took me about four years--I tracked nothing) that seeing these kinds of numbers were somewhat alarming. Like they just can't be right, especially as they don't match the…
  • Thank you! I really hope you're right! ;D I log my exercise and eat back the calories so the 1,200 I was doing previously (trying out 1,410 now) were net calories. I actually really like doing that because if I just have to have ice cream, a little extra kickboxing later in the day evens things out. Though I can see why…
  • Thank you for the responses! I've decided to up my calories to 1,410 (the "very active" level). And now that I think about it, I guess I haven't necessarily felt hungry, but I've been crazy tired and sleepy at work on some days. That's might be the calorie deficiency showing. Or I need more than six hours' slumber a night.…
  • I'm 5'1" and have a desk job. With 20 pounds to lose, I set my goal to losing 1 pound per week and MFP gave me 1200 Calories per day. I think it's fairly reasonable for my size and activity level, but I gave myself 1300 net per day because after using a food scale, I found that I tend to overestimate my Calories when I…
  • Don't have a measuring tape here. Commenting to find this later.
  • I agree that 30 Day Shred gets really boring and repetitive. The same workout for 10 straight days just doesn't keep my interest. I thought Ripped in 30 was designed better: four workouts for 5-6 days a week instead of three workouts for 30 days straight. So when I repeated 30 Day Shred (just finished today), I did each…
  • Honey Badger don't care. Honey Badger don't give a *kitten*. It just takes what it wants! Sacrificing rice is sacrilege, so lots of carbs, some protein, vegetables, fruits, and if I have room, a treat. Edit: Wow, the forums censor curse words? Are we not adults?
  • Congratulations on your amazing enlightenment, I guess. Maybe you could use your brilliant wisdom to avoid going around calling people's parents idiots without any consideration of cultural context or people's feelings. Oh, but of course you're "sorry" and meant "no offense." Uh huh.
  • It's a cultural idea of illness that's been prevalent for generations. Believing it makes someone wrong, but not necessarily an "idiot." I think that most people would have a difficult time breaking out of old beliefs that they've had since childhood. Perhaps even you.
  • My parents also discourage any sort of bathing (or even hand-washing) while feeling tired. They worry about "pasma" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasma), which is a Filipino folk illness. The explanation is that when you're tired, your muscles are "hot," and will therefore react badly to the "cold" (any wetness). There are…
  • My gym charges PHP 1,500 (about $35) for membership and then ~$35 every month.
  • You've done an amazing job, and that's worth celebrating for sure! You've come so far; I can't help but think you can definitely handle the rest. :) I love the picture of you and ribbon bow kitty because your facial expressions show the same level of amusement (NOT AMUSED).
  • I would also like to join if you're still taking members. I've been really diligent about logging and watching what I eat, but I've only been on the site for a couple of weeks. I'm worried about stopping once the novelty wears off, and I think joining a group would be great motivation!
  • Just the change in your pose speaks volumes about your confidence! Awesome job!
  • Hey, Will. We have a few similarities. I also have a three-hour commute (sometimes more!) to and from work, live with my parents (which is the norm until marriage in my society, so I guess it's not so bad), and can't quite be classified as a social butterfly. I'm really happy that you're making positive changes in your…
  • I learned about MFP from a friend about a year ago, but I didn't join since I was adamantly against counting calories. It seemed so tedious and there was no convenient way to do it accurately, so I thought it would just drive me crazy. This seemed to be fine as I lost 30 pounds just by working out and casually watching my…
  • When I was in high school (I'm not sure how much I weighed since I avoided scales), my dad pulled a one-man intervention: "You know what? You're really fat. You are SO fat." The words themselves weren't especially cruel, but what got to me was that he seemed to think I needed to hear this very simple fact as if it were…
