  • A natural no-salt peanut butter has become a staple. Good protein and healthy fats. It is well worth the 180 calories a serving.

  • I am in the 'I know it is not good for me but I drink a few every week cause I like caffeine.' I can't say with 100% certainty whether it has affected my pace of weight loss. I do know with 100% certainty that if I eat too much I gain weight so I focus more on that.

  • I think a couple of people mentioned Spinach. I made Kale chips yesterday; just 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp salt, 1 bunch of kale chopped up into biggish pieces on 350 for 13 mins.
  • Most of the equation is calories in vs calories out, if you are under you will most likely lose weight. For health reasons, you might want to make sure these fats are coming from healthy sources like nuts, avocado and olive oil.

  • I don't do the gym: the roads are free. In the past I have used the gym successfully though - something about knowing I was paying for it made me go.

  • The best advice I got when I was starting out was "Go slower than you think you should, longer than you think you can." Esp the slow part. Running is not possible if you are hurt.

  • If you are using MFP's calculator (Food->Recipes), you can just add ingredients and it will tell you how much the whole thing is. Then after you enter the ingredients, you can decide how many portions you want it to be and it will divide the number for you.

Personally, when stuff is working for me I eat at least some of my exercise calories back because it keeps me from getting too tired and I still lose weight.
  • The best piece of advice I got that has not already been mentioned: Go slower than you think you should and longer than you think you can (within your goals). Slow is good for early on to prevent injury while your body adjusts to running.
