I still prefer Shashimi (without the rice) and I weight the portions like any other food. No 18 months out I can, and do, enjoy a bit of rice but would not want to waste my precious capacity on too much rice. Related topic; I had some Steak Tartare last weekend. Sushi lovers might love this as well. ***New patients should…

I really have to concentrate to get my veggies and fruit is an afterthought unless I remember to grab an apple or bananna when I leave the house. The goal was, and is, to get the protein from a food source though I do have protein bars every day. Typically I am well over 120g protein per day.

Outstanding!

People can be rude even when well meaning and many simply have poor communication skills. But there are a truths here; yes we were that big, otherwise we would never have qualified for surgery. The changes are dramatic and many people are surprised to the point of brain freeze. I've lost 126 pounds and have tended to just…

I'm almost 18 months out and I can eat between 8 and 10 oz depending on the food.

Go to a bike shop and try some out. They all feel different - I had a Trek when I was 300 pounds but I picked up a different seat. Very customizable.

Tip: Look up at the mirror and smile! You look great.

It's not just about our insulation. The body needs more calories in winter to generate internal heat. Our caloric intake is much lower than it used to be so it's harder to warm up.

Point of note: I do not see any comments relating to exercise. Focusing on caloric intake is a "dieting" behavior, we need to focus on "life" behaviors. I would suggest upping your cardiovascular exercise and eating back most of teh exercise calories. Set MFP for 2 pounds per week, make sure you weigh and track everything…

Thaeda - you are winning this battle, day by day. I enjoy reading what you have to say and following your success story. At a year out I can relate to much of what you experience and genuinely root for you. Recently I pulled a book off the shelf that I have owened, but not read yet. Very inspiartional and relevant to our…

>>>I have found myself walking around in circles to get those last few steps before bed. LOL

AngryViking has the right idea. Package up a lunch from dinner leftovers BUT hold it back a day or too so you don't get bored. For example: Saturday dinner for Monday lunch, Sunday dinner for Tuesday..etc. Avoid the pre-packaged, frozen meals - even Atkins. Train yourself to eat real food.

I no longer need zippers on my boots!

Well done.

great work!

Doctor was never concerned about calories, only protein at that point of recovery. I focused on protein and the calories seemed to gradually work themselves out. At 16 months out I really have no problems consuming 2000+

Increase protein, increase fluids. Grilled meats are high in protein and low in calories. This can really push up the protein intake and will push caloric burn.
-
Set your MFP for "maintain" and make sure you eat back the calories. Measure and weigh all food intake. Just follow the math. BTW - you look great. Congratulations.

Under promise, over deliver. The VSG is still the newest procedure so the long term research has not caught up. The original premise of the surgery was to prepare severely obsese patients for an eventual bypass. Most of the people I know have significantly exceeded expectations.

I lost 126 poulds total with 90% of that in 9 months. At 16 months out I am maintaining weight within about a 5-7 pound range.

Plan on two weeks. You really need the time to adjust to work through the first stages of the diet and shake off all the effects of surgery. Driving a bus will stress your core which is right where the healing needs to be.

Leafy greens like lettuce and spinach can cause probelms before you are completely healed. Stay away for a few months, think of your staple line and how lettuce gets stuck in your teeth.

The pizza was a specialty appitizer. Fresh thin crust (thin) with fresh mozerella in water as the cheese. Eating appitiers like this is a challange as you need to get portion sizes logged into MFP as best as you can to be as accurate as possible with calorie counts. I'm getting pretty good at it and my weight has stayed…

Ice cream goes down real well, just make sure you have your daily protein first and log in all teh calories.

Went out for a pre-christmas dinner with friends last night. 3 couples, two of us have had WLS. Vincent's Clam Bar and Italian Restaurant in Carle Place NY. WOW! Over 2.5 hours I tasted almost 1100 calories of food (also brought home a truck load). Here's the kicker; Logged everything into MFP (best match and portion sizes…

In year's past I would not have even contemplated taking something home, now it's common. That $17.95 dinner plate actually becomes a $9 dinner and a $9 lunch.
-
Well done! Congrats.

Congratulations Thaeda, you made it to the other side of the mountain! By removing the negative assumptions (Diet, Bad, Punish) you have taken away the powerful urge to rebel. Subconsciously we fight back against the "rules" that constrain us. Eat what you want, when you want it and over time you will have a healthy…
