  • We eat out regularly and I have found it quite easy to order what I want wherever we go. Here are some of the strategies I use: * For favorite restaurants I deconstruct my favorite dishes and add them as recipies in MFP. * For chinese take-out: Pull out the protein and weigh, then add veggies back in. * I always ask for…
  • There was not a chance is hell that I could have followed a VLCD with the surgical tool. My Dr. tried for years to get me to try less than 1500 calories to lose weight and was amazed at the success I had post surgery.
  • Water, water, water - and some coffee. -
  • Have you continued with post op suppot groups? If you never address your personal eating triggers you can easily undermine your success. It's not just physical.
  • Diagnosed during the pre-op testing phase, never had a C-PAP and the problem completely resolved as the weight dropped.
  • I agree with grim. I am 13 months out and have maintainined my goal weight by eating a high percentage of protein. Most of my meals are 6 oz protein and 2-3 oz veg. I can comfortably eat between 8 and 10 oz (depending on food type). I find that if my meal is light on protein I feel "empty" sooner which can manifest as…
  • Garber is right - relax and stick to the play and you will SHED fat at a high rate. I do reccomed getting into a training program so that you shed fat while maintaining muscle. This will help raise your metabolism and produce a nice physical shape.
  • Don't worry about the calorie settings. MFP has a floor and your actuals will just be well below that for a few months. At this point you should learn the tracking habits and make sure you keep your protein intake high. As you heal and progress you will start to get closer to the daily calorie goal.
  • At a year out I make proteins the staple of my diet. Beware dry foods - always make sure you use some type of sauce to help moisten meat (especially chicken). Pulled BBQ pork is a big favorite as is any type of fish. BEWARE a bagle (the nice NY boiled first ones)!!! Tried one (because I try everything once) at a retirement…
  • I started to add some coffee at four months and now drink it regularly. Honestly I love coffee and am very glad I am able to control my diet without difficulty. However you must make sure to log in any cream or sugar you add to your coffee to help avoid hidden calories.
  • I am a bigFitBit fan.
  • Great job, wonderful success.
  • Still a bit early for the bars. I found that clear ISOPURE protein drinks are great for upping your protein. Drinks tast like Jolly Ranchers and deliver 40g protein in 20 fluid oz. I lived on these for teh first 4 months. When you do get up to bars try the Quest bars first.
  • 8 weeks out you need to be following YOUR reccomended meal plan. You can cook normal camping food for your family but you should only eat what is on your plan. Carry some canned/bottled protein drinks to keep you going. Drink fluids all day but avoid eating anything that is not on yoru plan.
  • If it's liquid I count it. Just keep drinking.
  • Sounds like you are doing real well. Keep up the good work and continue to focus on the protein.
  • you can add me, my diary is very varied and open
  • My experience as well - very uncomfortable, feels like I am backing up.
  • From the look of your pictures it appears you are doing real well so congratulations. And congratulations on facing a phobia. Even people who never battled weight have a "perfection complex" when in a group. From a man's point of view - you really do not have to be perfect to be beautiful and you really don't have to be…
  • Very normal, most likely lactic acid. Drink more. Your body is actually eating itself at this point. If you keep your protein up (higher than reccomend), keep sugars very low and keep fluids up your body will burn the fat stores for energy. That fat is stored all over our bodies and burining it off can cause fatigue. Even…
  • Cngratulations, now sustain!!
  • Welcome and good luck. It may sound gross but putting beef stew and chicken soup in the blender worked real well at this stage. Once you get past the look and texture you will enjoy the return of flavor. Great way to get in protein.
  • Congratulations to you both. Those are great NSV's.

  • Chew longer.
  • Isopure fan here. The powders and the clear liquid drink (I lived on the clear dirnks in the beginning).
  • Ok - here's a comment from the tough love side of the house; you are pre-op and you are eating at UNHEALTHY levels which will hurt you. Based upon the information in your post your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day, should be around 2900 calories per day. This is why…
  • First up; your pouch is going to get bigger over the first year until you are completely healed and settled in. The final size is different for everyone but most likely will be in the 8-10oz range. In order to stretch it to unhealthy levels you would need to consistantly over stuff during consecutive meals. If you weigh…
  • Up the protein and the water and avoid processed carbohydrates for a coupel of weeks and see if that jump starts weight loss. I would reccomend going back to basics and adding a protein shake or clear protein drink (Isopure) at around 40g protein. Make sure your weights and measures are accurate as well. Otherwise you see…
  • Follow your nutritionist. If you are VSG then you have a capacity restriction. At each meal choose the protein portion first followed by a veggie or fruit. Half the capacity should be the protein (ie if you can eat 8oz then the protein should be at leat 4 of those ounces). If you follow these guidelines your calories, carb…
