  • wow, no replies. I like tofu myself. The most difficult part of tofu is cooking the tofu itself. My experience is that it's best to cook it separately prior to adding it to the dish. Make sure to get firm tofu. Broccoli tofu stir fry is pretty simple, saute 6-8 ounces of (firm) tofu until browned on all sides. stir fry…
  • I don't think they're any cals or sugar in crack either... You'll get varying opinions on just how healthy it is so the decision is yours. From my perspective, drinking regular soda is just plain bad for you (unless in slight moderation) and drinking diet soda as a replacement is a mental crutch. Instead of questioning…
  • I'd be more concerned with what's in them. I looked around a bit for the nutritional contents but couldn't find anything. My guess is they're either ephedrine based in which case I've seen positive effects but use at your own risk when it comes to ephedrine. Or they're caffeine based and I'd say don't wast your money. If…
  • As others have mentioned water consumption will fuel metabolism. That said, two pounds in the context of one week is really not an accurate indicator and what I mean by that is that you should be looking at overall trending of calorie intake versus weight. 1 week is not enough time to judge whether your intake is leading…
  • Optimum Nutrition - 100% Whey Protein Powder Gold Standard - Vanilla Ice Cream, 1 rounded scoop (29.4g) 1g less fat, 1g less protein
  • - 2% plain fage greek yogurt. - 1/2 cup strawberries halved. - 2 whole wheat low fat ego waffles. ~319 cals
  • I take a bit more of a hard line approach to this than many of the others that have spoken. Whatever works for you... Here's what works for me. First off, there are no tricks, magic pills, magic hypnotism cds, etc, etc. You are not a victim of fast food nor oversized proportions, living a healthy lifestyle is a choice and…
  • True that! Start by getting your mind right. Being healthy doesn't only equate to your body fat percentage. Living a healthy lifestyle means you the make the right choices in diet, fitness and you strive to build and maintain a positive relationship with yourself. Learn to accept yourself for what you are and recognize…
  • Don't sweat a day! You've obviously done well so far. Whenever I get discouraged about a day of gluttony I like to think of my goals in perspective of the overall week. If I'm shooting for say a 500 kcal deficit a day than that's 3500 a week, say I went over my goal by 1000 kcals for a single day, that's 500 kcal plus for…
  • great post, tks.
  • Not sure if it's been mentioned already but eating late isn't always a bad thing. If you know you're going to be hungry try saving some of your calories for a late night snack. By eating foods high in protein prior to bed you can keep your body in an anabolic state through a large portion of night. You release HGH while…
  • During a cutting phase I shoot for 50/30/20 (p/c/f) for maintenance 40/40/20. Straight out of p90x although this is a ratio that I adopted long before p90x. In general i wouldn't go over 60% carbs or below 20% fat, but tinker with it, the more you know about how each macronutrient effects you the more effectively you'll be…
  • I heard that one from jillian, use it all the time.
  • Ok I didn't read all the comments but no offence this is dumb... Anyone that says muscle weighs more the fat is NOT implying that 1 pound of muscle weighs more than 1 pound of fat. The unit of comparison is not weight it volume. They're are comparing 1 volume of muscle to 1 volume of fat. Yes 1 pound of feathers weighs the…
  • Planks IMO are the best you can do. Kettleball works well too in terms of compound movement across the entire core. Bottom line I think focus is more important than type when it comes to ab exercises, i.e. standard crunch is a great ab workout but it also pretty easy to do it so that hip flexors take the brunt of the…
  • +1, do what works for you. just keep in mind that the end goal should be building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, this begins with your diet.
  • My advice is if you're going to be using a mat for both yoga and and exercise where you're using shoes get both. Depending on how deep your yoga practice gets, you may begin to view your mat as more sacred than something you want to be jazzercizing on. Besides that if it's a yoga mat you wont get as much life out of it if…
  • True that, eat or don't. Sure you can go on a 500 kcal a day diet and I'm sure you would lose weight, you'd probably be a sickly little frail miserable soul too. Or you can eat for performance. Start by trying to eat like there is a starvation mode, one of the beauties of MFP is that it's a tool that helps you refine your…
  • Roasted Cauliflower, 6-8 oz cauliflower 1 tbl. olive oil 1 tbl. garlic powder 1/3 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese. tossed, broil at 425 20-40 minutes until desired browning. 104 cal, 11 carb, 4 protein, 6 fat ala Bigest Loser Cookbook
  • Seriously, put it in perspective. I'm sure we can all dig up links to journals and flex our research muscle under the guise of providing information that helpful to the OP. It was already said MFP generally under proportions protein intake goals, and OP was talking about an overshot of like 20 grams or something. Adding…
  • +1, pushup bars supinate the wrists and will take pressure of the joint.
  • +1, just make yesterday your rest day and do the skipped exercise the on rest/stretch day. But try to get back on schedule and stick to it. P90X does a good job of managing your workouts splits, i.e. you do core one day than cardio the next. You don't want to get into the habit of switching up days or you'll start running…

  • I agree, that's a good range. When I'm cutting I go (protein/carb/fat) 50/30/20 and for maintenance phases 40/40/20, I would stay between 20 - 35 in fat and below 60 in carbs.
  • +1, that works for me too. You just have to re-program yourself do it and enjoy it. Water is essential for metabolism, you up your water consumption and you'll see the results. I also enjoy water at room temp.
  • check out the biggest loser cookbook, I love it and eat from it a lot as part of my program. There's quite a few easy to make meals and what I like the most is that the majority of them are broken down into recipes that serve one. I cook out of cookbooks a ton and I'm always struggling with meals that are proportioned to…
  • 01Of course you count it, it's exercise. I'd be hard pressed to guess caloric expenditure for any person, it depends entirely on your physical condition, heart rate, etc, etc. From my own personal experience I wouldn't go over 400 kcal and that's liberal, maybe 250 - 350. I really wouldn't sweat it, just guestimate a…
  • ... plus it's like big-o sweaty orgy of half naked beautiful people with a girl/guy ratio of like 15 to 1. The benefits are endless!

  • I liked and generally agreed with the concept but didn't care for the prose. He does a good job of pointing out the holes in the idea behind Supersize me. For example the fact that the supersize me guy was eating like 5K kcal's a day... you're goona gain weight regardless of what you eat if that's the case. I was drawn to…
