  • I tried Pure Barre. I'm pretty fit but it was TOUGH. I would've dreaded those classes. They are very effective, though. You can try a free barre workout free online and see if that style of training appeals to you.
  • A 5 lb. kettlebell is tiny. Most kettlebell specialists would recommend you start with an 18 lb. https://www.darkironfitness.com/kettlebells-for-beginners/
  • Check out the diet book section at the library or book store. Amazon lists 52,000 books on diet and weight loss. Those aren't about calories. Or consider how people lost weight before the calorie was invented in 1850. I actually find it easier to use other methods than calorie counting.
  • I wonder if the people on video pouring have different bottles than you. I use a pretty glass bottle with a liquor pour spout and I figure twice around the pan is a tablespoon or two, based on something from Rachael Ray or some other Food Network chef. But I rarely count calories so it's not like I'm aiming for some real…
  • This says a 10-month old would be eating around 820-1100 calories a day. http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/many-calories-should-10monthold-eating-5278.html
  • I like the workouts on livefitrevolution.org. Free but you need to register. I think a heavy kettlebell is worth it. It's a good blend of functional strength and cardio and is time efficient and doesn't require much equipment. Dumbbells are not the same and are not going to work well for most of the basic kettlebell moves…
  • I've never heard of "absolute nutritional value", but that EFAs are named 'essential' because the body can't synthesize them from other compounds, they have to exist in the diet.
  • I wonder if that cook was purposely telling you, "Screw you, this isn't your personal spa, order off the menu." ;)
  • We don't really know what she's been told. I think someone who tells themselves they needed to get a Coke because they were shaky on the drive home also tells their friends that their doctor's advice is too strict to follow. We tell ourselves all kinds of things to justify not changing, especially when the change is…
  • How long is "quite a bit past" the date? I would be ok with months but probably not years.
  • I don't like spaghetti sauce on squash, either. Rather than cook myself a special meal, I would buy one of the higher protein, higher fiber pastas like Barilla Plus and serve it to everyone, and have a small portion myself. And have a large salad. http://www.barilla.com/aggregator/product/1301
  • If she's not losing weight I wouldn't worry about her not getting nutrients. I also would take another dieter's claims with a grain of salt and let the doctors do the diagnosing. In my opinion, usually when someone says they're doing it right but not losing, they're not doing it right at all, or they're doing it right 80%…
  • I also find magnesium is what helps the most. Costco has a good one- NatureMade High Potency softgels. Also this- http://www.amazon.com/easyGopro-Ergonomic-Movements-Gastroenterologist-Recommended/dp/B00M08188I
  • Dr. Oz put out good books before he had a show. I agree that he knows what he's talking about overall. He just is now making a daytime tv show about health and that means having guests that write diet books and those pretty much all have some exaggerated claims or attention-getting terms like this one does. Hardly anyone…
  • This is a book that talks about the science behind soups being filling, if you want to read more about it. http://health.usnews.com/best-diet/volumetrics-diet There's rarely much in the way of diets to read about here besides "I eat everything in moderation".
  • I personally would try something new. You've been counting calories for so long. It's good to learn new tools. Changing things up can help, for whatever reasons-- physical or mental. :)
  • Yes, they are worth your time, keep doing them! I like to do little blocks of time, too. :)
  • I remember that one. Nothing wrong with some very low carb days to drop some water weight, or a few days of dull eating to keep calories down. But many people here will balk at anything besides daily, sustained, moderation without food restrictions.
  • I'm the only one I know who does this but sometimes I weigh and don't even look at the scale. It gets logged wirelessly to trendweight.com and I can check it later, not daily, and look at only at the long term moving average. Also I like to weigh daily just because I do better with daily habits than with weekly, if it's a…
  • The ones Christine posted are the ones I read, too. The Varady one was the best, I think. This is a good forum for tips and support. http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?f=89 I don't do a lot of working out, if it makes you feel better. And my friends who "love running", when pressed, will tell you they don't…
  • You'll get over it. We've all done embarrassing things in the gym. Good for you for trying something new! I flew off the stairmaster once. I laughed and got back on. :*
  • Many people actually feel more energy on their fasting days. I think I feel more likely to get more activity in on fasting days because I feel lighter and have more time and they just feel more reflective and health conscious. I'm not into intensity, though. And I have no blood sugar issues and I think my body fuels…
  • I would pick up one of the cheap, handheld ones. I've seen those for like $10. I have a $30 countertop one with different blade inserts and it's probably the least used space hog in my kitchen. I discovered I don't much care for veggies in noodle shapes. I'd rather use a knife and eat them in veggie shapes. LOL. A lot of…

  • I did it for 3 months. I can recommend some good books and forums, if you like. If you do 500 calorie days every other day vs. two days a week (5:2), you will lose weight faster, unless it causes you to overcompensate on your non-fasting days.
  • If you have a way to weigh yourself without your water weight, I'll invest... ;)
  • I agree, it's not accurate worn on the wrist but if it's just floor count you care about, it shouldn't affect that. It uses an altimeter for that, not the accelerometer. The change in air pressure should be the same anywhere on your body. If you want to see how different the accuracy is on the wrist or ankle vs. the torso,…
  • I think it's probably a rip-off. Most of us who eat a balanced diet get plenty of vitamins and if not, a multi-vitamin pill once a day is cheap insurance. But if you don't like to drink water and do like to drink vitamin water and cost is no concern, have at it!
  • With almost no plant fiber you might be constipated. If you're losing weight from fat and water loss and retaining all the solids you eat, the scale could look stuck. Your aim is probably low carb. Add a bunch of leafy greens. They're mostly fiber and won't blow your ketosis. I mean, if you intend to keep eating this way…
  • You could try a Blendtec. I think mine has more horsepower than many of the Vitamix models. But you already shelled out for a costly blender with a long warranty, I would let Vitamix keep replacing them. I do like the idea of explaining your issue to them. It does sound like you need a commercial one. I burn through…
