  • I don't think it's the disagreement, it's the "I'm right, you're wrong, so there" attitude. What makes any of us the arbiter of what is stupid? You don't know someone else's belief system or point of reference. Right now there are threads saying kale is stupid, turmeric is stupid, hot water with lemon is stupid, Walk Away…
  • Also for moms with kids asleep they can't just leave (or take), or beginners who are self-conscious doing any exercise in public, for whatever reason.
  • Why would I say I don't know if she researched it and didn't care, if I could point you to a link of her research? Those balking at her rates.... How much does Alan Aragon charge for personal consultation, etc.? Lyle McDonald? They sell pdfs and all kinds of things. Does that mean they're not authorities?
  • http://nutrition.psu.edu/foodlab/barbara-rolls http://nutrition.psu.edu/foodlab/publications I'm glad I have the internet authorities to debunk the real ones.
  • She's been around forever, and is respected. If you log her walks as the miles given, you might want to be aware they are a bit exaggerated for most people. I tested some with just a Fitbit that does accurate mileage estimates. I mean, her '2-mile walk and jog' might've been 1.5 miles (not that you're going anywhere), for…
  • I'll stick to my own critical thinking, no offense intended. I prefer expert recommendations to random internet opinion. If I don't reply further it's not that I'm conceding anything or without further thoughts.
  • So your definition of critical thinking is to ignore the recommendations of industry experts and ... listen to random internet forum posters with opinions?
  • She definitely doesn't think it's magical but she recommends trying it. Her client won this reality show that pegged diets against each other. Which is neither here nor there, just adding the context. "Tip: Drink hot lemon water each morning & 16 ounces water before meals."…
  • What makes you think there is only one?
  • It's not a very good argument that there is nothing potentially beneficial there. The pertinent preclinical studies, in animal models and in vitro, indicate that curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties; can induce apoptosis in cancer cells and may inhibit angiogenesis; has antithrombotic effects; can decrease the amyloid…
  • Barbara Rolls, PhD, did some work on the effect of water on satiety. I don't know if she studied hot water in isolation but she did find that soups were more filling to people than the identical foods served in non-soup with an identical serving of water on the side, to drink.
  • Your religion is woo. Your political candidate is full of derp. Those are examples of offensive comments where the adjective isn't describing the person. Woo sounds like it's ridiculing non-western beliefs. Derp is a word we'd use as kids to sound like someone with perhaps a learning or speech disability. Kind of like…
  • I add cinnamon to my coffee and homemade almond butter. I love it, plus it's full of antioxidants. I have an elderly aunt who has found huge relief from joint pain from turmeric pills.
  • I don't know if she researched it or just has good results from clients doing it. I don't really care. She's successful at and educated enough at what she does I don't need to research all her recommendations myself just like I don't with my doctors or other trusted professionals. She is of course not the only expert to…
  • Honestly I wouldn't. The calories were probably negligible. If you sucked the sour off an entire bag, maybe log 1/4 the bag's calories. There is an illusion of accuracy with this that doesn't exist. It's all estimates, even if you weigh food to the tenth of a gram. But you don't need accuracy.
  • Besides simplifying tracking, points was designed to steer people to more nutritious, filling food. A 200 calorie beer costs a lot more in points than a 200 calorie chicken breast.
  • I think it's in mustard, too, if that helps you get more in your diet.
  • Oh, I haven't seen that boost thing. I lost about 50 lbs. on their old Core plan about 12 years ago and maintained it for years. I never did get that big again. But when I go back it's always harder. I don't know if it's less activity as we age or adaptive thermogenesis or just less motivation, or a combo. I feel ya. Be…
  • Some cultures drink it in warm milk or tea daily. I've bought the pill form before.
  • Yes. And I too don't like the term "woo". Or "special snowflake". You can get your point across without insulting the person who believes differently than you.
  • One renowned dietician would disagree that it's woo. https://dawnjacksonblatner.com/about-dawn/
  • Is there a reason you wouldn't just squeeze one lemon wedge into the water, like people do in their tea? That's what I do. I don't think you're expected to ingest the juice of one whole lemon at a sitting. And the fiber from one wedge isn't any big deal. I mean, I can see not wanting to push 3 lbs. of veggies through a…
  • Oh right. But you shouldn't have to round up or down on the calorie inputs based on water weight loss or lack of it. The calories don't change, just the total weight.
  • I think MFP is based on daily values, not weekly? Cutting your intake will cut your size no matter span of time you choose to measure, even none at all.
  • You're right, you don't need to use the extra 49. I just see a lot of people here who say that WW had them eating 1000 calories a day or less and so I wanted to make sure you knew it's not really a requirement to eat that little. 23, really? I haven't done it since 2014 but I thought the minimum was 26 then, though my book…
  • I bet it'll fit. I put a 10lb. bag of chicken in mine (for ferret food) and it fits fine. Even if the water evaporated the calories are the same cooked as raw, it just weighs less. But I might be missing something in the logic.
  • Why would they need to be discrete? It's not some shameful act. I worked in top tier restaurants long ago. I would usually ask people if they preferred me to box it or not because I personally prefer to box my own. I know what parts I want and don't. And it's really easy for a server to just drop the 'used' plates in the…
  • Why add 10%? Unless you're adding sugar or coke or something, the spices should be negligible. Is it just you eating it or is it for a group? If it's just you, you can just divide it up into 6 or however many servings and each is 1/6 the total calories. Even if your servings aren't even, if you're the only one eating it in…
  • Well, only if they burned 4000 calories a day and ate nothing for the week, or had a lot of water weight to drop.
  • One idea for easy-to-calc, mini weight loss goals is aim to lose 1% a week or say 3% a month. So if you're 187 that's 1.87 lbs. lost per week or (less aggressive), 1.87 lbs. x 3= 5.6 lbs. per month. But as you lose re-calc your 1%.
