I did an aquathlon today. 950 yard swim and 4.61 mile run. I came in 1st place overall out of 1 participants! Ok, so it was an unofficial, unsanctioned aquathlon but hey, I did it. Lol

I use coconut oil (as in, the stuff you get in the organic foods aisle that comes in a jar and is the consistency of lard). You have to really coat the hair to protect it but it's pretty effective at acting as a barrier between your hair and the water.

I swam 3000m today. First time I've been able to swim freestyle without it hurting my injured wrist.
-
To get faster, you have to swim faster. You could break down the 1000m into speed intervals. For example: 2 x 100 on pace +:10 2 x 100 on pace +:05 2 x 100 on pace 2 x 100 on pace -:05 2 x 100 on pace -:10 So, if you're average 100m pace is 1:50, you would swim the first two 100s in under 2:00, the second two 100s in under…

This is actually from a little over a week ago. Although, I have been swimming almost every day, I've only been doing kick sets since my wrist injury but I thought I would post one of my more challenging workouts in case anyone wanted to try it out. Totsl Yards: 5000 Warm Up (350): 200 SPD*, 150 kick (free, fly, fly on…

I'm still an endurance freak.

I took this class a couple of weeks ago. My husband went with me and we made it into a mini vacation. Had a lot of fun. Even the class was fun (although, I was ready for it to end by 3 o'clock).

It's absolutely possible! In fact, distance will probably be the least of your concerns after you do a real open water practice. You'll probably discover that you can do the distance with no problem and that learning to sight is the real issue. I would focus on sighting skills in open water practices and not worry about…

When I'm swimming a mile (1750 yards): (at 100 yards) I've only done 100 yards and I'm already tired. (At 200 yards) Ok, this is starting to get a little easier. I'm thirsty. Wish I had taken a sip of water before I started this. (At 500 yards) I'm halfway to 1000 and then it's only an additional 500 yards plus a small…

A condom. I think it freaked out the lifeguards more than it freaked me out.

My first goal is to swim an open water 2k in under 40 minutes by May. My second goal is to swim a 12 mile race in October (and finish!). My third goal is to swim 300 miles by midnight, December 31 (so far, I'm up to 63 miles but it's the slow season for me until... Thursday).

I think there are more swimmers who want or like to swim than there are runners who want or like to run. I mean who chooses to do a physical activity that requires them to wear skimpy "underwear" in public and that burns their eyes, dries out their skin, destroys their hair, and makes their nails brittle unless they really…

The Garmin Swim watch is pretty dang accurate. There are some things that can screw up the distance like slowing down/stopping in the middle of a length or switching strokes in the middle of a length. The only thing that I can say that is "bad" about the watch is that it can't estimate calories burned for lengths that are…

There appears to be a problem with MFP when syncing with Fitbit today. Data stopped transferring sometime this afternoon.

Put a drop of baby shampoo inside each lens, smear it around, and rinse it off in the water. Works better than any anti fog solution out there.

My Garmin Forerunner 920XT because I can't count laps.

Ok, I got something to say about this. Cheating? That's hogwash! We use fins, snorkels, paddles, forearm fulcrums, and pull buoys as tools that allow us to concentrate on certain areas. For example, swim fins allow us to feel the water with our feet so we can concentrate on kicking up AND down. Many swimmers don't even…

Oh, I knew you weren't trying to insult me. I thought it was a great analogy! ANYWAY, so I ran my second 5k on Dec. 21, 3 weeks after my first 5k, and ran it 3:34 faster than the first 5k! Albeit, the first 5k was slopier than the second but I find it hard to believe that it was slopier enough to account for a 3:34…

I'll be running a 5k Galveston this weekend. It will be interesting to see how my 5k on flat land compares to my 5k on hills. I don't think I have ever run more than 1/2 mile on flat land other than a treadmill (and even then, I always have it set to 2-5 on the incline). Lol - did you just compare me to a pinto? Great…

I love that lipstick color!

This is a great website for learning about calories burned and it has lots of calculators. shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx

I have about four pool towels I've left in the backseat. I keep them there because 1. I'm too lazy to bring them in or I forget, 2. they dry faster in the sun than when hanging them up in the bathroom, and 3. keeping them in the car means I won't be screwed when I forget to pack one.

When I had my VO2max test, I learned a lot about calories burned and and there's only one variable that determines your calories burned given that all the other variables are equal (e.g., duration of exercise, body weight, percentage of lean muscle mass), and that is your VO2max which is uniquely correlated to your heart…

Aquatic, I think I'm a cross between a fitness freak, masters, and endurance addict. I'm definitely not an iron person (although some people would say I'm in denial of becoming one soon). Other than replacing iron person with endurance addict, I'd say you know me very well. Lol

OMG! I'm blind! I totally didn't see that. Thank you!

Yes, I did a manual entry only because I needed to anyway. The 1,450 (actually, it's 1,451 but I rounded down) was calculated using my RMR (1,170) which was determined based on my bod pod test (air displacement test for determining my percentage of body fat) I had last week. I think the issue I had last week with the -849…

Yep, time zones are the same.

I just now checked, and it was enabled so I turned it off. I'll give it a couple of days to see how it affects my numbers. Yesterday, I disconnected all of my apps from MFP except for Fitbit and then I linked those apps that Fitbit. Last night, I did my swim and manually logged my swim into Fitbit. Then, I did a quick 30…

I checked and my level activity is still the same as it was when I set it (sedentary, although, I'm not really sedentary). Well, I have an update. I noticed the -849 the next morning when I went to share my diary. Later that day, after I had already posted this thread, it changed to 17. I'm so confused. I checked Fitbit…

Not until the solid food phase.
