  • I just wanted to add a couple things. It probably goes without saying, but when exhale always exhale through your nose. One benefit in exhaling through your nose is it keeps the water out when you learn to do flip turns. Also, don't exhale completely. You want to keep some air in your lungs. If you ever pay attention to…
  • I can wear my Polar HRM in the pool??
  • It takes me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how much I chit chat with the person in the lane next to me. I ALWAYS get a cramp on the bottom of my foot during the first back kick of my sprint intervals. I usually end up pointing my toes up and continue kicking as well I can. By the time I reach the end of…
  • Awesome information, guys! Thanks! Now I need to digest all this and figure out the best way to do my cardio routine. I'm a swimmer (after decades of being on hiatus), and although I swim at a moderate pace for about an hour most days, I've been incorporating sprint intervals into my workout. I do 10 intervals (500yd…
  • I have three cats, two ragdolls and one Maine coon, and they're all spoiled rotten brats but they're my babies.
  • For me, the kick is more of a consequence to the pull. I have trouble doing the fly without kicking. I can't even do it with a kick board because without the pull and without my head moving down (and the rest of my body following), there's no wave for my legs to get on top of to kick down, if that makes any sense.
  • My pull and kick overlap. I kick towards the end of my pull.
  • After discovering Premier Protein shakes, I will NEVER go back to Bariatric Advantage shakes. Those things are gross.
  • Also, Premier Protein shakes. The chocolate ones have 160 calories, 3 grams of fat, 2 net carbs, and 30 grams of protein. You can get them at Sam's, Costco, and some Walmarts or order them online (premierprotein.com). Amazon sells them too.
  • Quest makes some really good protein bars. I like the double chocolate chunk - 160 cals, 6 grams fat, 3 net carbs, 20 grams of protein, and 17 grams of fiber. You can get them at GNC or order them online (questproteinbar.com). At GNC, they're selling them for a buy one get one 1/2 off price. Most of their bars are high…
  • Fortunately, coffee was never something I liked.
  • Found them! Thank you!
  • Thanks, Frob! I always found my high protein diet disconcerting because it goes against everything I have read about protein and its effect on the liver when consumed in high quantities. Listening to you guys though, reminded me that I'm consuming so few calories and because I'm consuming so few calories, "high protein",…
  • My high protein, low everything else diet is under the supervision of my primary care physicians, a surgeon, and a nutritionist. All three work in coordination with each other. At first (and hear me out because I have since corrected my attitude), when I read everyone's responses to my question, I was a little annoyed at…
  • Of course, fiber screws it all up but I won't go there.
  • Fat, carbs, and protein are the three sources calories come from so they must total 100%. For example, you can't have 20% fat, 30% carbs, and 40% protein, because that only totals 90%.
  • Unlike fat, muscles need energy. So when you build muscle, your metabolism increases simply because your muscles are using more energy than they were before you started building them. So, yes, strength training will increase your body's metabolism so you'll lose weight faster. You should also remember that building muscle…
  • OMG, I witnessed what I thought was going to turn into an all out brawl between two elderly men this morning while I was swimming laps. It was like watching a scene from Grumpy Old Men. I was swimming in the middle lane, Grumpy Old Man A (I'll call him "John") was swimming in the lane to the left of me and the lifeguard…
  • Thanks, Holly. The issue with the cap not covering the nape of the neck is that the hair between the nape and cap let water in. It gets through between the strands of hair that stick out.
  • I started double capping but I think I need to get a bubble crepe cap to go over my silicone cap. My problem is I can't get the silicone caps to go over my ears and stay there and I can't get the cap to cover the hair on the nape of my neck. Do caps have to cover the ears to help keep water out? I don't see why keeping it…
  • The other day, someone was telling me that the reason the butterfly is so tiring is because it uses the least number of muscles compared to the other strokes. - that it mostly uses your core muscles and shoulders so those muscles take on the majority of the pull. I'm like you though. I'm dead after doing the fly and I…
  • No, the manual just describes the functions and how to replace the battery. It doesn't have a troubleshooting section. It is a really neat watch though. And today was better in getting it to recognize my butterfly. I modified my stroke by not raising my arms so high which now that I think about it, makes sense. When doing…
  • Well, best time so far is 46 seconds. I think it's my kick that's slowing me down. The other day, I did a 25 yd freestyle sprint and then later did a 25 yd freestyle sprint with a pull buoy and both times were the same. I know I don't have a drag issue - my buoyancy is perfect, that I know. I guess I'll just go back to the…
  • Well, I've come up with a set of goals for myself that so far, is workng out pretty well. Goal #1: (25 yd butterfly sprint + 25 yd relaxed backstroke kick) x 5 - COMPLETED Goal #2: (25 yd butterfly sprint + 25 yd relaxed backstroke kick) x10 - COMPLETED Goal #3: (50 yd butterfly sprint + 25 yd relaxed backstroke kick) x 5…
  • That's an excellent point. I was noticing this the other day when I was swimming backstroke. I noticed my chest rocking from side to side. I just assumed I did it to get more pull through the water by pulling my arms all the way under my body (which requires slightly rolling) instead of mostly under and kind of outward. I…
  • If one is body building, then I would agree that increasing weight for each session is necessary. If one is body building, then I would agree that using a balance ball would be useless. However, although all body builders are strength trainers, not all people who strength train want to be body builders. Those who begin…
  • Thanks for the replies! I did discuss it with my instructor a couple of weeks ago and she gave me some modifications that help. I don't have low blood pressure and I also eat a protein snack about 30 minutes before class. I think my problem is just weight (lol - mostly in my boobs). I really think I just need to take it…
  • Actually, I think you should start with two 5lb dumbbell weights and two 5lb ankle weights. That's really all you need for the first month or so. After that, you can progress up to the 8lb weights. I would also get a balance ball (the big one - the one that you can blow up to 72" in diameter). If you do some of the…
  • I'm not sure I understand. It syncs automatically. Are you logged in on the app? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I can't remember if you need to be logged in to use the app or if it lets you use the app without being logged in. But as long as you're logged in on the app with the same account you're using on the…
  • I was sleeved 11/20. Just recently started the soft food phase and loving it! Feel free to add me (any sleever!). I like snooping through food diaries. Lol
