  • I try to run on the road instead of the sidewalk. good news for you is you'll probaby have more snow than ice this winter since the temps are cooler there. snow is a lot easier to run on than ice. I'm in SW ontario, and since we'll have days at or above freezing periodically all winter, I'll have to contend with ice.…
  • I like my garmin 310 XT, I think it works well for biking on my trainer, the HRM still works. I used to have a polar that did distance with a foot pod, I think the garmin GPS is more accurate (except when it is cloudy and there are lots of trees.
  • oh, and to talk about the activities I have done with hypermobility - downhill and cross country skiing, swimming (although breast stroke now aggravates my knee after tearing my ACL playing rugby in highschool), running (up to marathon), biking, triathlons (up to Ironman), hiking, yoga, strength training, the list goes on.…
  • So I guess the four personal trainers, kineseologist and 3 physiotherapists I have seen over the years were all wrong? Not one ever recommended doing leg extensions, particularly after having ACL reconstruction. I didn't say squats with a big bar bell.
  • MFP way overestimates for me with cycling. I go with what my HRM says (I have ridden with a power meter before and my HRM corresponds pretty well to the powermeter.). I'd love a power meter. drool.
  • I have IBS-C and regular excersize helps for me.
  • I have hypermobility as well and leg extensions kill my knees, I would suggest squats or leg presses instead. It is true though that strong legs are key to those with hypermobility. I don't let it prevent me from doing anything except for maybe kick boxing. after my knee surgery, I was able to return to spinning classes…
  • I usually use a conditioner for dry hair after swimming. I also have fine hair. I also try not to blow dry every day.
  • I'm planing on running with the babe in the stroller this winter (as long as it isn't too cold).
  • I've been running for 13 years, have done countless half marathons, one full marathon and 2 Ironmans. my opinion, yes you can do a marathon in you first year on training, but it's generally not recommended. I would wait a year personally. as for the race schedule, I think it looks ambitious, particularly for a first…
  • this is BS. as long as you are careful there is no reason not to run all winter. I've been running through Canadian winters for 13 years and have not had any injuries from running on snow or ice.
  • rest day today, but I will take the pooch and babe out for a long walk.
  • Dress in layers, a warm base layer or two and a windproof jacket. thermal tights, wool socks, gloves and an ear band. when it gets really gold I wear a balaclava. for snow and ice, I usually try to pick a route where I can run on the road instead of the sidewalk. You can also get things that go over your shoes to improve…
  • Nice workout Scott! 30 minute run with the babe in the BOB (well, actually 31:25) only 4.15 km.
  • my 3.5 month old is EBF (a big boy at about 18.5 lbs). He nurses 8-11 times a day. I add in -500 cals as food at breakfast. If you search breastfeeding, it is in the food database. I think for my little guy, I might need more than 500, but I am also new to this. (he is growing like a weed and looks more like an 8 month old.
  • biked 25 minutes on the trainer. all the time I had yesterday.
  • Is it sad that I'm jealous of you swim workout? I haven't got a swim workout in since before my son was born.
  • It says at the bottom "* = Nutritional information provided by another MyFitnessPal member", so that would be user entered.
  • I have been running a bit since September, up to about 5K at a time. I'm more of a triathlete than a runner. So far I haven"t had any supply issues, but then again, I am just now starting to try to lose the baby weight. son is 14,5 weeks. as for bras, moving comfort fiona is awesome. $$, but worth the money, I think. I…
  • this.
  • I looked yesterday and couldn't find it yet for 2013. I'll see if I can find the thread from 2012 ETA - here is the 2012/2013 thread http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=467103&page=1#
  • I know this is super late, but 1) goodluck tomorrow! 2) I know a lot of women that have had trouble losing weight while IM training (myself included). I think the general consensus on BT is that men lose weight while IM training and women either stay steady or gain a bit. I have done 2 IMs and after workouts got to a…
  • a cheap mag trainer will be loud. I used to have a cheap one and it sounded like a jet engine.
  • 220-age works for practically no one. I'm 33 and my max (from testing with trained professional) is 205. Also, your max hr varies with activity. I think that for the casual exerciser it makes more sense to go by perceived exertion than HR. there are some good books out there on HR trainging if you are serious about it.…
  • yes there are free winter cycling programs on BT, Jorge has a good one that is always popular I think they post about it on the challenge forum?
  • I'm new to MFP, but not triathlons. Did my first tri in 2001. I am Canadian, and was inspired to do my first tri after watching Simon Whitfield win the first Olympic gold in triathlon. I was already a swimmer and "jogger". Since then, I've done several triathlons from try-a-tri up to IM (IMFL 2010 and IMWI 2013). All of…
