I went cheap with mine and got the Taiwan special generic carbon clinchers supposedly from the Ritchey factory (40/60s). However I put in bladed spokes and Chris King hubs. I've rode Zipp 808s and I can honestly say my wheels are on equal footing. Great handling, smooth rolling and once they were broke in, quiet braking.

Skip the wheels and get a Power Meter. Your improvements during training and exertion monirtoring during the race will be far more beneficail than race wheels. Also, you can get close to the same aero benefit with an aero helmet. Then again, I'd recommend Flo Wheels. They are budget friendly and excellent in quality.

There is a lot fo good information on beginnertriathlete.com that could be helpful. Also, craigslist is a great used bike location. I'd first go to a local bike store and figure out what size bike you need then hit the classifieds and get one.

In my experience, MFP grossly over-estimates calorie burn. May weight loss has matched the calories burned as stated by my Garmin 910XT. Your HRM is much better suited to measure your level of stress than MFP will ever know. Go with your HRM. If anything, it's conservative and will lead you to work harder.

I've just started adding a cup oatmeal to my breakfast with a splash of honey. It has made a noticeable energy improvement in my workouts. However, I try and avoid grains/oats the rest of the day. Carbs are about 35% of my diet as well.

My first triathlone was a HIM. When I began training I was already completing half-marathons but had needed work on both the swim and bike. I'd recommend 16-20 weeks, There are a plenty of free plans on beginnertriathlete.com that can give you a better idea of what a training week would look like as you progress.
