  • PRs do not count unless they are made in official races where distances are calibrated and certified. Treadmill distances AND times are notorious for being "off". Eg, my own treadmill is about 20 seconds slower than my watch clock's time so if I run 1 hour on the treadmill, it's actually 1 hour 20 seconds in real time.
  • Well, in theory, 2450 calories per day over maintenance for 10 days is not impossible but it's highly unlikely. It's also doubtful since, in the OP's own words, he didn't go above maintenance except for a couple of times. OP, I'd suggest for you to stay on course and not change anything if your usual weight loss routine…
  • Yes, I understand that for some/many (or all but a few, perhaps) sufferers, the urge may not completely go away. What I was trying to say in my post was that there is still hope and to not give up. An ED sufferer reading that "there is no overcoming it [your disease]" may be quite triggering for that person.
  • Actually, ED can be overcome and a significant percentage of sufferers do get cured with treatment. What appears to be key is to get help in the form of specialist psychotherapy which your doctor may be able to advise you on, OP.
  • In the refeed podcast, Lyle mentioned ADF (alternate day fasting), 5:2 and other types of fast/feast protocols but did not come to a conclusion about whether these protocols worked the same as the Refeed from a physiological point of view. From a psychological POV, whatever works for you individually, I think.
  • No science to back this up but from my understanding, I believe the sentence in bold is right. Biological set point is not fixed and can be moved upwards or downwards (you can be obese or underweight especially with external environmental influences like the Western diet). (ETA: although from what others are saying,…
  • She’s severely underweight and is already at high risk of heart failure without the running. Better to be safe than sorry... in this case anyway.
  • Please don’t reverse diet. Eat above maintenance at least until you gain 15-20 pounds. Have you calculated you maintenance cals yet?
  • No, you really should stop running till you gain weight. You are dangerously ill at your very low weight. You may think your body can take it and you may feel fine but one day, your heart might just give out if you carry on without putting on weight. Focus on that first and do seek professional help as soon as possible…
  • @livingleanlivingclean, sorry to hear about the continuing issues. I hope the blood work result does not mean that there is anything serious going on. Re RMR, wow, a big difference but it just shows that it can be corrected quickly/easily. About temp, I also thought it had something to do with thyroid and in fact, tried…
  • I feel weird now for bringing it up
  • @GottaBurnEmAll, I don't think I'm at peri or menopause stage yet (dunno, no signs or symptoms anyway) but I feel cold all the time. I don't think weight has got anything to do with it too since I've been more or less the same weight since I was 14. It's a real pain, isn't it?! @heybales, thanks for the detailed…
  • So I had 2.1kg as my original guess :) Anyone closer than that? This is bringing out the competitive streak in me...! lol
  • Just read the article anubis posted. Even that article treats RMR and BMR like one and the same thing when making up components of TDEE and another article I read says that RMR calculation uses Mifflin St. Jeor Equation. If that's the case, then my RMR result is A LOT higher than online estimates but feeling cold is always…
  • Thanks @Nony_Mouse and for the link, @anubis609. I know/believe I've a lower core temp (hands/feet always cold, feeling cold even in summer) and it's been like this since I was a kid. I don't think it's affected my RMR though (according to the dexa scan results I did last time) and I think my RMR result was higher than…
  • Jumping in to say Arthur Lydiard, one of world's best coaches ever is from NZ. @GottaBurnEmAll, I get awful, awful migranes too. Hope you feel better soon and you too, @VintageFeline. @Nony_Mouse, whatever's happened to your little competition? :) @livingleanlivingclean, yes, echoing what others have said. Hope you find…
  • 5800 elevation gain is quite a challenge especially on a technical single track trail. I would also advise you to at least check out the course before you decide. The track you’re training on may or may not be adequate depending on how closely it mirrors the actual course. There are usually cut off times for these races so…
  • @Nony_Mouse, I have to say I was surprised when you predicted 4.5kg lol (as you may have guessed per my previous comment about not possibly going over 3.5kg!!). Hope it goes away quickly for you. I'm only an n=1 but can attest to this as well as an increased NEAT. My step count literally doubled between Oct and Nov not…
  • I also really appreciate all the sharing done here. It helps knowing others' experiences. I never knew about such large gains from water (well, I knew in theory from this thread) but it wasn't until I read accounts of actual experiences that I became aware. Re data, one of the reasons I stopped using Happy Scale was due to…
  • Interesting! Can you try going higher you think? See if you can maintain a higher intake and doing another lot of carb increase for the next month? Or even other macros rather than/instead of just carb. Or will this interfere with your program?
  • Haha, okay, I didn't want to freak you out with a high number but since you're soo ready for it, I'll up it to 3.1 then. Dunno, not sure if you'll hit above 3.5kg...
  • Water weight it is! Try hiding the scales and the measuring tape for the next two days? Oh but that won't work with the bet! Right, so I think you'll be up 2.1kg from pred and hormones by wednesday.
  • @Nony_Mouse, @anubis609, thank you for your kind words. They help tremendously. I've actually booked a session with a therapist just last week after my really bad episode. It took me seeing what others were going through in this thread and other threads here that prompted me to do it, something I would never have done…
  • I've never really been diagnosed with an ED officially but I get really bad weekly episodes of binging and purging (all types) and self-harm because of the mental aspects as Nony said. It's been going on for a long, long time and unfortunately it's still happening despite my attempts with flexible dieting. (ETA: I never…
  • Thanks both. I think Garmin has something similar to Fitbit. Yes, I agree with using my own data (which is what I've been using) but I would like to push the envelope as far as I can go, IYKWIM? I want eat as much as possible to maintain a happy weight. The calculators are awfully imprecise for figuring out my potential as…
  • A question I've been wanting to ask for sometime now after reading so many posts in the forums about it and since we've been discussing TDEEs here (and since no question is off topic...) When using online TDEE calculators, how can someone say that the calculator is over or under-estimating their maintenance calories when…
  • Nice and thanks for clarifying, both. Totally agree with your diet break while at Vienna. It's 8 days so make the most out of it!
  • @nexangelus, sounds as if you're using a really good and methodological approach trying to get a right number for your surplus . Getting it right is tricky, isn't it? @Nony_Mouse, never watched Pulp Fiction but that pic looks good. Have a great time in Vienna! 4500 cals sounds a lot for maintenance with walking though. Is…
  • Thanks @GottaBurnEmAll and @anubis609, yeah, this thread was a lifesaver for me as I needed a solution to curb the binges so the refeed concept came just at the right time, thanks again @Nony_Mouse! @ZoneFive, can't wait to see your chart :) @Nony_Mouse, ugh, sounds awful. The only thing I can relate to with your cracked…
  • Thanks @Nony_Mouse, I did monthly numbers primarily because I was getting so anxious about daily and weekly numbers, seeing no progress (seemingly). It was a great relief to see progress by month and even when I thought I was in maintenance or even surplus (end Sep/beginning Oct), I wasn't actually. The mind's a powerful…
