I agree with ^^ I don't understand why IF is a "thing" if it's simply to do with meal timings. Everyone (like, e v e r y o n e...) has preferences in relation to when they eat and when they don't want to eat. I can say that I do a 16:8 to 18:6 because I use up all my calories within a 6-8 hour window but that's because I'm…

Totally agree with what the others have said. If it's working for you, don't change anything!! I'm similar in many ways to you. I've never been overweight in my entire life (except pregnancy), always around 125 -130 pounds (BMI 20-ish) since I was a teen. I don't have a small frame and am not petite (just your medium…

Yeah, I guess. It's also a matter of degree of dysfunction, I think. Someone with full blown ED and self-harm tendencies would usually/generally have issues other than just simply a bad relationship with food, while a "dieter" who's learnt about CICO may be totally obsessed with calorie counting because they've become…

An update - it's been exactly 2 weeks since Day 1 of refeed. It's been kinda successful although I did binge in the middle (as in huge sugar binge of 4500 cals for 2 days straight). This was mainly why I don't do calorie cycling - I had the tendency to binge if I was not consistent. (Incidentally, I find it really sad that…

@Nony_Mouse, mine is supposed to be 50g fat, 225g carbs and 113 protein. I usually focus only on protein and fibre goals (latter generally takes care of carbs). I try to incorporate fat purposefully (avos, eggs, butter) and every so often, treats, so sat fats are usually low. From your formula, it seems like 50g should be…

Yeah, I'll try to adjust percentages (...again, sigh). Thanks.

Oh yes, I've got giant calves compared to the rest of my legs! And worse thing about them is that they're all muscle. You're right, consistency is key for the measurements. I personally try to measure with the mirror to make sure the tape is horizontal etc. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks guys for the responses. I asked because I'm usually very low in sat fats most days (around 15-20g or so) and wondered whether it caused hormonal issues. I've had and continue to have hair loss issues (because of hereditary reasons and made worse when I stopped BC). I've tried the supplements (biotin, kelp, Omega 3…

My 3 days refeed went well. Lost on Day 1 and Day 2. I'm pretty sure I'm underestimating my TDEE so I'll need to adjust. Day 3 was the first day of TOM (sorry, TMI) and I gained even though diet was on point. May also be due to sodium (ate out). I'm going to do a 11/3 as it's difficult doing a lower deficit than 1800.…

I believe he said it was because of unfavorable "metabolic memory". It's from the podcast Avoiding Fat Regain (9 May).

I should have known that the issues were deeper than that! It must be a really frustrating time for you. Hope your tests come back with something that can be diagnosed or at least, point to a direction that will lead to a diagnosis.

I'm gonna put this out here even though it may be a completely dumb idea... Firstly, if that's you in your profile, wow, you look i n c r e d i b l e... I don't know your history but it seems that your issues are to do with hunger and too low cals and having difficulty maintaining the weight you need/want? From what I've…

Interesting. I always thought they showed lower results and were not accurate that way. I haven't had any dexas lately so I can't compare. Maybe it's an individual thing. Thanks again for your response.

Thanks for posting this. Her story is similar to mine except for the different sport. When I started, I also went too far (like her, got down to 110 (BMI 17.8 for me) and ended up with the whole b/p/r cycle nightmare. The reverse diet concept is something I might look into. I like the idea of staying only 5 pounds above my…

Thanks for the insight. If hydro results are generally lower, that works well for me :) What about accuracy of online calculators and measurements?
-
Wow, we could be DEXA twins! I've got really, really similar fat distribution and BF% was slightly less than yours from my results (which was like 2 years ago so I think the BF% is a bit lower now) though I'm quite a bit older and weighed a lot less when it was taken. I've read that DEXA is more accurate. You've obviously…

^^ Yep, agree absolutely. When I mentioned "neurotic" things elite athletes do to get down to their required weight earlier, I was actually thinking about these kind of aggressive diets (apart from all the other weird stuff). I'm of the same opinion as @Nony_Mouse and @GottaBurnEmAll then that this thread really isn't…

Okay thanks, won't mention even the acronyms then lol. I know about them (or similar) and actually read one of Lyle's earlier books ages ago and have also previously looked at Martin Berkhan and Alan Aragon's programs. What Lyle was proposing was definitely too extreme for me.
-
Would you mind explaining what you mean about his "horrible" diets? Do you mean the fasting diets he has?
-
@VintageFeline @Nony_Mouse Oh ya, I forgot that 1 day does nothing to bring leptin back up. Yep, Day 2 of refeed is today (and to be on the safe side, I'm doing Day 3 as well). I think the whoosh might have been it. Certainly, in the past, each time I go through a cut, I always lose to where I need to be but always…

FYI, I tried Day 1 of a refeed yesterday. I had aimed for maintenance but went over maintenance by 500 cals with 60c/30p/10f macros (so 2700 cals for the day) because I was hungry and did this as a deliberate choice. Did not seem to harm my progress at all because I was down by 0.22 pounds today. Caveat: - It might also…

And I am only neurotic around this time of the year when I start training. My natural weight is about 10 pounds higher so I have to cut each time. Otherwise, I also prefer to think myself as diligent like you, Nony!
-
Haha, I was thinking that too! But then again, I'm nowhere near as neurotic as those elite athletes who do crazy, extreme things to get down to their correct weight each season!
-
Also, just to add: Lyle did mention in his nutrition partitioning podcast about the 6-7g of carbs for endurance athletes. I do typical carb loading before events and I think I might investigate going above maintenance when I ramp up training (at the moment, I'm only doing around 70km/week but will go up to 150km/week by…

Thanks @Nony_Mouse. I'll read them and get on the Abbey Orr podcast too. I am aware of the first article as has been posted in MFP a number of times before but not the second one, not that I actually followed the advice as I started out at 1400 cals/day!!! Haha, yes, I agree with that classification. Like I said above, I…

Thanks @anubis609 I was wondering why he was talking so much about women! I was also listening to his nutrition partitioning podcast just then and really glad I did before I read your reply. "Underfeeding and overtraining" - yes, that's my typical story the past 5 years. Lyle in fact also talked about this in that podcast.…

This thread is full of information! So... I watched the whole video (in fact, I can credit this thread with me having the first time EVER listening to a podcast - I had to google "how to listen to a podcast on iphone" hahaha). I get mostly what he's saying but one thing stood out to me. Lyle's main focus (it seems) is…

Hmm, okay. That's good news then. If all your numbers are accurate and you're in a true calorie deficit, then yes, you're right, you should be losing weight - even if you're already in a healthy weight range. It may be a slower loss with a small deficit but still there should be a loss. (My experience anyway). Perhaps give…

I highlighted the 2 bolded parts because I wondered how you knew what the "expected RMR was for someone your height/weight/body fat". If you are talking about online calculators, then are you certain you used an RMR calculator as opposed to a BMR calculator? RMR is typically higher than a BMR. Mine for example is approx…

Thanks! I think I should be okay with the fat %. I've been on maintenance with the same macros so I can just lower or increase the carb portion sizes as required. I love me some oats :) Thanks and good call. I watched the video... umm halfway lol (up until where he talked about ADF, BF and refeed structures, 5/2, 3/1 etc…
