I crave donuts...Must be low blood sugar so I will eat a dozen for my health! ;) Seriously, I haven't seen a lot of evidence that our cravings are actually nutritionally educated so to speak. But even if yours are a sign of something other than you just liking steak, why assume it is iron? Could also be protein or fat you…

I would apologize for taking something they posted for friends, a conversation I'm apparently not even party to, and posting it elsewhere for strangers to comment on and mock. Then I would unfriend myself.

Every race has its own culture, some being more running oriented and others being more diverse in terms of who shows up. I've never been to a 5k where walking isn't allowed though. I have done longer races that forbid slower people, usually because they have limits on the time they can shut down the road and keep…

So you quit Facebook to reduce time wasted on social media....then came on a different form of social media to talk about it? This is like someone who drinks too much wine giving it up and then going for a beer to cope. Lol. ;)

Your metabolism does change over time while being in a calorie deficit, but isn't so much "damage" as adaptation. Your body thinks it is in a famine and becomes more efficient to preserve energy. It is called adaptive thermogenesis (google that term and you'll find lots of research). Some people call this "starvation mode"…

Yes, I always wash my fruits and veggies. Beans and whole grains too!

If I genuinely feel sick or unwell, then I just rest. But if I'm just being lazy I don't bother to convince myself because I often remain unconvinced. :) I just say to myself "Suck it up, buttercup!" and get off my butt and go no matter how I feel. Usually I feel better once I get started.

Southeastern U.S. Guess I'm not "southern belle" enough. :)

I can't relate to your specific problem, since I'm not quite at the point in my fitness where people are seeing me as too muscular! But I can relate to the more general problem of having people critique you for achieving in ways that are supposedly un-feminine. In my case, I have a Ph.D. in a science-oriented field. I've…

I use jog.fm to create playlists of different beats per minute (using spotify)

Sounds like you are experiencing caffeine withdrawal, not diet coke addiction. Might want to decide your goal...is it to reduce caffiene intake or coke intake or both? Neither are that bad for you, so I don't see that you need to quit either for health reasons. However if you are wanting to reduce costs, increase water…

Great advice from kimney72, I endorse it! I wanted to add a comment based on something I picked up on in your original post, about how one bad day turns into more. Sounds like you might be having an overly perfectionist "all or nothing" mentality that you'll need to break. I was really bad about this in the past and it…

Read studies from here! http://www.nwcr.ws/ This group has studied characteristics of people who defy the odds and who DO keep the weight off after losing.

If your parents won't stop buying it, you might need to ask them to store it somewhere that you can't access it but they can. Also, make sure you are eating plenty of fat and calories during the day and leaving room for a snack at night. It is okay to eat in evening, or even eat peanut butter. Nothing wrong with that,…

If I let my appetite decide when and how much I fed my body, I'd weigh 300 pounds. You just need to put it on your schedule to eat every few hours and do it because your body needs the fuel to survive and be healthy, not because you are hungry. If you don't want to eat, then choose calorie dense foods and drink a lot of…

I sometimes use them when the weather gets awful (storms, freezing cold, sweltering heat) and I am not a fan. I like them best for running intervals, where I can vary things and fiddle with the pace to keep it somewhat interesting. Otherwise it is outside running for me!

I disagree with the idea of "cheating", NOT because I think it is bad to have a larger or less nutritious meal now and then, I just don't like the sneaky connotation of me cheating as if I'm doing something illicit. I'm not cheating anyone or anything if I have a bad day, diet wise. Sometimes I just can't be perfect. I log…

I think some people only care about being small, not about being healthy. So they don't exercise, or don't eat a nutritionally inadequate diet, or starve themselves. My view is that looking thin is great, but ultimately it is about taking care of my body for the long haul, which includes not just keeping calories low but…

I am living proof. :)

I usually retain a lot of water in the first few weeks after changing up my workout routine. Because of the weather being so miserable (mid 90s and humid) I've switched to less running outside and more weight training inside. I'll focus on more running in the fall, maybe train for a race. Right now I want to work on…

Maybe you could stick strictly to WW for a week, but log your food on MFP at the end of the day just to gather data on the amount of calories you have been eating. Then the next week, set MFP for that amount and follow it from then on.

Don't worry about keeping your heart rate in that so called "fat burning zone"....a bit of bro science has developed around that and you should ignore most of it! As you work harder, you burn more calories, in general and from fat. The *percentage* from fat will decrease, but a slightly smaller percent of a much higher…

Kale chips, lightly salted popcorn (you can get small microwave bags that are 100 calories), sun chips, whole grain crackers

I do believe genetics are important, but they can't make you deny laws of physics. CICO still works. I think where genetics plays a role is in terms of our natural preferences for activity levels and food intake. I know people who find exercise rewarding and naturally on the move quite a bit, they gravitate toward…

If you want to lose a little weight, just set a modest goal like a half pound a week on MFP and eat a little less than you burn. It's that simple... yet just implementing that can be challenging and a lifestyle change for many people. So start there and just make choices based on whatever you want to eat that is within…

Tomatoey can speak for him/her self, but my take on this is that there are "average person on the beach" beauty/fitness standards and there are "fit people in the gym" standards. The average person on the beach is overweight or obese and among those who are not, skinny fat is not all that unusual. Judging by those…

You have a distorted perception of yourself. I see a tall skinny guy. Slight area of fat in the love handle area but it is nothing abnormal or unusual looking that should shame you into covering up or provoke self loathing. It is just an area where some guys carry fat that is hard to lose. No different than a thin woman…

Another annoying thing is people who don't follow the rules on the track. At mine, there are two lanes and outer lane is the passing/running lane and people should be single file only and over the age of 13. This is clearly posted. Yet people bring preschoolers to run all over the track the wrong direction, lay down in the…

Women who walk/stand around the locker room naked. I'm not talking about people just changing clothes or going to the shower. I'm talking about standing in front of the mirror where I wash my hands after using the bathroom, doing a 20 minute makeup job while completely naked. Does she seriously not bring an outfit to put…

Your calorie deficit needed to lose weight is built into the number of calories it gives you to eat. If you exercise, you can eat more and still maintain the same deficit. Just be careful because it is easy to overestimate calories burned through exercise then eat back too much.
