  • OP, if you have been eating at a severe calorie deficit for years--enough to actually stunt your growth--you would have been steadily losing weight all that time. You'd be skin and bones by now! But since your stats put you in the overweight BMI category (slightly), I doubt you've been consistently under eating for years…
  • I like Whole Soy yogurt that I can get at Whole Foods. Silk makes a good one too--it is a little less sweet and slightly lower calorie. I've gotten it at Kroger, in the natural food section. You can also get coconut and almond milk yogurt though I don't eat those as often bc of the lower protein.
  • Whether humans are capable of enjoying the taste... or capable of digesting it...or powerful enough over cows to steal it... is a different question from whether milk and milk products are MEANT for us. They are meant for the babies of the animals that produce them.
  • Not sure if you are being sarcastic or actually confused. Assuming the latter, let me spell it out: Cheese is made from the milk of a cow (or goat). Cows don't make milk for humans, not willingly anyway. They produce it for their babies. The dairy industry operates by taking away the baby to slaughter or other uses and…
  • She is probably referring to the fact that cows produce milk to feed their babies, like all mammals. Not so adult humans can make the baby into veal and then suck at mama cow's teats....
  • I roast them in the oven with a little oil and sugar and a coating of Chinese 5 spice powder! Tasty!
  • I think you just need to be more patient. The first weeks are always fun, as you lose water weight and are still motivated. The "honeymoon" phase, so to speak. You've just moved to the hard part--the long slow slog of daily living with a new lifestyle....with gradual losses, some weeks you don't lose, setbacks, etc. This…
  • With weight loss, sometimes fast means not at all because people crash diet and then get miserable and go on a binge. Might work to drop a few pounds but 75? You've got to live the next year or more of your life like this--can you? If not, then live on something sustainable. Might take you an extra year but that time will…
  • It still stores/counts your data, it just won't give you a projection of what you would lose in 5 weeks because it doesn't want to encourage eating disordered behavior (eating starvation levels just to see the tiny number that pops up as you projection). It isn't healthy that you aren't eating enough food that you're…
  • I would starve to death on that little food. Perhaps you need to be less aggressive with your weight loss goal? Shoot for a pound or half pound per week, plus get active so you have some exercise calories that you eat back. Focus on learning new healthy eating habits that will serve you well for a lifetime and don't try to…
  • Unsync your fitbit....though I don't know why you wouldn't want to use the info to guide you. The fact that it keeps adding calories is telling you that you've underestimated your activity levels (probably you are calling yourself sedentary?) in determining how many calories you need to eat for weight loss.
  • I have a fitbit flex and love it. I wish I had gotten it sooner! It made me more aware of my everyday activity levels and helps me better gauge how much to eat each day when it is synced to MFP. The fact that I can eat more when I'm more active is very motivating! When I got the fitbit, I was actually shocked about what…
  • You forgot "starvation mode"
  • So, this was meant to be a post about wacky yet persistent weight loss myths, right? That's what you meant to say? ;)
  • My digital is consistent to the tenth of a pound if I get on and back off.
  • I log my veggies but for the non starchy ones I don't weigh. I just guesstimate....2 big handfuls of spinach = 2 cups. Log a whole tomato as one tomato. My reasoning is that these items are low enough in calories that a little error here and there isn't going to be enough to make a difference. And it hasn't--my weight loss…
  • Yeah, put me down for "Why not weigh everyday?" The only reason it is an issue is if you are having problems as a result. Stressing out over normal water weight fluctuations, constantly needing to weigh because you are wanting immediate gratification (not realizing weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint), doing unhealthy…
  • I learned a lot while on NS that I am still applying, about measuring food, keeping track of intake, good nutrition, controlling portions, exercise, etc. It's all part of the program, and was enough learning for me at that time. I was overwhelmed with all the learning I had to do on MFP, it was all hitting at once. NS took…
  • I started Nutrisystem in Sept '13 and lost 30 or so pounds following it strictly. I went on to lose 60 more (and counting!) while transitioning off and now being totally off. I have struggled with weight for years and it was the only thing that helped me stick to something and really begin to have success. I don't really…
  • My main advice is to get educated about nutrition--here's a useful website for that: http://www.veganhealth.org/ You'll want to track your protein, iron, calcium at least until you get into a routine. A B12 supplement is a good idea, too. I also watch my (healthy) fat intake to make sure I'm getting enough. If I get too…
  • It won't hurt your weight loss to eat at night, just budget your calories differently so that more are available during that time. Maybe eat your meals at different times too, so they are spread throughout your waking hours better. No reason to have dinner at 5pm just because someone who sleeps at 9pm does that. Set dinner…
  • There's no special food that will give you or deny you abs... If you want to eat at night, save some calories for then and then choose something that doesn't interfere with your sleep by causing indigestion or keeping you awake (like from caffeine)
  • I agree, play with the numbers and try to maintain or lose slowly. Focus on healing your eating disorder and addressing whatever triggers it as your top priority. Otherwise your weight will just keep being a struggle, because it is a symptom of your disorder. So fix the disorder and you might find that you more easily will…
  • How about if you motivate yourself to exercise by allowing yourself to drink your wine when you burn enough calories to "afford" it?
  • I get this a lot, too. Part of it is that I have a larger frame, hourglass shape, and carry some weight in my limbs (muscular calves, thighs, arms) so I look okay at a higher weight. I also think the social norm is to keep weight secret and it results in people having little understanding of what a given weight looks like…
  • I had to lose my middle school weight. :)
  • Both! I like variety! And 'getting in shape' is a vague term....do you mean building cardio strength? Both are okay format (though swimming might push you more). If you want to work on other aspects of being in shape (muscle strength, flexibility, running speed, balance/coordination, etc.) then you might need to diversify…
  • I might not count all of it since I didn't eat it. But I also don't use that much oil in cooking. I just use enough to get the job done, no more. I'd rather spend those calories on actual food.
  • I normally follow my body cues as long as my calories are within a healthy range for my goal (gradual weight loss). If my calories are used up and I am still hungry, I eat a snack. I don't eat a 2000 calorie snack though! If I get to the end of the day and am under goal and not hungry, I don't eat. Save those to balance…
  • Yeah, what the person above me said. It isn't 100mg, it is 100% of your recommended daily allowance.
