IT's always going to be an estimate anyway.

If you weren't working out before, I don't see why you should be losing muscle now, as long as you are eating enough calories and don't have a huge deficit.

As long as you are under a doctor's supervision, I don't see why you shouldn't try it. He's your doctor after all, you must trust his opinion, right? He is a doctor, so he knows more about how the human body works than almost anyone here, and he certainly knows more about YOUR particular case than anyone here. Edit: the…

I say work out so you can enjoy your anniversary dessert without guilt. Have fun!

I would say it depends on your goals. If you want to increase your endurance, then doing more cardio will do that. It may not be optimal for other goals, like weight loss, but that is obviously not everyone's only goal. I've read in a lot of places (though I'm not positive of it's veracity), that 30-45 minutes 3 times per…

I lost 7 pounds my first week, and my brother lost 11, so it is definitely possible. Not to discourage you, but that will not continue for very long. :) hang in there.

I wish this site listed net carbs as well, but if you get at least the fiber listed and don't go too far over the carbs listed, then you should be getting the right net carbs by definition for the most part.

Actually, I believe that sleeping burns more calories per hour than watching TV. I'm not sure as to the why that is. But if you only replace your sedentary hours with sleep, then you might actually burn MORE calories.
-
It's really arbitrary. I would start the 24 hour period on your normal wake-up time, but really, just be consistent in whatever time you pick.

I've had several digital scales over the years, but they always seem tricky and hard to use. I recently on someone recommendation got one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032TNPOE Eatsmart Precision Plus Digital Bathroom Scale with Ultra Wide Platform and Step-on Technology, 440-Pounds I love it. It works fast,…

My guess is the fried part of the tofu won't add as many calories as the rice you will probably eat with it. :) Looks fine to me, as long as you log it as accurately as possible and it fits within your limits.
-
No, it does not burn any calories. Sweat is only the release of water and salts onto your skin to cool you with evaporation.

I weigh in every day after I wake up. The only trick is, you have to plot the data points out, so you can see fluctuations and the over all trends, or else it will drive you nuts.

That really depends on a lot of factors. The speeds you run and walk, and your VO2 rate, also any inclines you may be going up or down. It would be best to use a Heart rate Monitor that can tell you the calories more accurately. Something like a Polar FT4, FT6, FT7, or FT40. I'm going to start week 4 tomorrow. Good Luck!

I'd be willing to bet that if you boiled two pieces of meat, one with and one without the seasoning, you would probably tell very little difference, as stuff like that doesn't really penetrate into meat anyway. I would consider seasoning it after you drain out the boiling water, then you can tell accurately. Really the…

You should check out the HowStuffWorks.com article on "How Exercise Works" http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/exercise/sports-physiology.htm The reason that the 80% of MaxHR is usually recommended is because of the the way your body can use different kinds of fuels. Fat must be converted into glycogens…

We can't tell if your HRM sounds right unless you tell us what exercises you are doing and for how long. Also, What type of HRM is it? 800 cals could be a reasonable number depending on what you are doing.

The only thing I see in your food diary is that you are eating a LOT of sugar. You are eating 3 times as much as is recommended. Sugar causes a blood sugar spike, which gets an insulin response. The insulin burst causes a low blood sugar response, which makes your brain signal hunger. You can try eating more veggies that…

Once again, I apologize if I seem to be picking on you. I have eaten almost no fruits, and the only sugars I have eaten have been refined, and I have lost 23 pounds in 2 months. I commend your efforts. I know how hard it is to lose weight, and your method is working for you, so I am happy. You should keep doing it, but I'm…

I am not trying to pick on you, but this is a pretty big misconception. Fruit has varying levels of Fuctose, Sucrose, Glucose, and some even have other sugars in them. These sugars are exactly chemically the same as the Sucrose in table sugar and the Fructose that is in High Fructose Corn Syrup. Whereas it is true that the…
-
It's not that sugars in fruits are "bad", it's just that they are the same thing as any other sugar, so your body will have the same effects. Aspartame and Sucralose (Splenda) can't be used by your body as sugar, so that's why they don't give you any calories. The only tests that show bad effects with these substitutes are…

I have not tried it, but I have ordered it to taste it: http://www.bellplantation.com/products Something called PB2. here is the description: We call it peanut butter’s second generation because it’s unlike any peanut butter you’ve ever experienced. Through a unique process that doesn’t involve the use of any chemicals and…

grams are a measure of weight (mass) and cups are a measure of volume, so they are not compatible directly, meaning, it would depend on what you are measuring. 2 cups = 1 pint 2 pints = 1 quart 4 quarts = 1 gallon 1/4 cup = 4 tablespoons 1/3 tablespoon = 1 teaspoon 1 US quart = 0.946352946 liters so 1 cup is approximately…

The lost weight from cooking is usually water loss from the item, so it shouldn't change the calories very much, even though it weighs less.

There are 2 of it in the food database here search with: Walmart - Broccoli Salad

The fluid that fills up your cells is mostly Saline (Salt Water). Your cell need the concentration of salt to be at a certain balance. If you add salt to your system, the water in your cells gets saltier, so your cells absorb any excess water they can find to bring the salinity back to normal. The extra water in your cells…

I don't think water retention could be what the OP is talking about. You can't make mass out of nothing, right? If you retain water, it doesn't just appear out of no where, you have to consume it somehow for it to be retained. I don't see what could cause it. My guesses: 1) Something hinky with scale. Perhaps it read wrong…

That's a BOLD statement.

You have to be careful watching a film like this as the film maker has an obvious agenda, so he is going to pick facts and stats that support his idea, and ignore facts and stats that go against him. That said, I thought it was a great doc. I loved it, and I also try to stay under 120g of carb a day. Do beware, though,…
