  • Yes I have always had "desk jobs" and a lot of sitting, which is very unhealthy . ... sitting at work, in the car, at home. I have made it a point to keep moving. I get up to talk to people instead of emailing. I try to remember to stand during phone calls instead of sitting. I even try to stand during meetings (sometimes…
  • If a book doesn't draw me in by a few chapters, I move on. Good authors catch your attention--their job is make you want to turn the page for more. There are many books that I just couldn't finish-- my goodreads page has a shelf I created and labeled "started, never finished" just for those instances. This helps me to keep…
  • I have found Goodreads to be extremely useful. I log all the books I have read or want to read and give some opinions. When I can't remember what a book was about or if I read it, it is great to be able to get all the info I need. Also helps when others are asking for book recommendations. Love it.
  • Just finished Fall of Giants by Ken Follett which was very good if you like historical fiction --takes place during WWI so it helps to brush up on WWI history before you read it. Fascinating time in history. I learned a great deal which is a huge bonus when reading fiction. Now I am reading Hemingway's, The Old Man and the…
  • Just started reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett... so far it's captivating... it's like you are walking along in life with the characters-- feeling what they're feeling, experiencing what they are experiencing. Love that.
  • My rule for MANY years has been NO eating after 7pm. Simple as that. It's pretty much habit for you--a pattern that you developed and need to break. When you get that feeling, grab a nice tall glass of ice water with lemon. Can you change your workout to a little later in the evening instead of right after work? Or, like…
  • oh man C1131, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you! I have a friend that has a similar digestive problem and usually just brings her own food to events. Obviously she can't do that with real formal events, but she definitely does it for family gatherings--she just flat out tells the host that she is bringing…
  • I had the wrist style (flex) but returned it for the Fitbit "one" that clips on instead. It seems to be more accurate and it's very easy to use. I really like it-- Keeps me motivated to keep moving. Just have to be careful to not lose it!
  • Good points Ruthless! I agree we are all adults and I never mention anything about calories or health in regards to what people bring. And, I always compliment the entrees -- how they look, how talented they are to be able to make it, or how EXCELLENT it tastes (even if I hated it). Especially since I am no gourmet cook!…
  • Currently reading Parallax View by Allan Leverone. Just finished "Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Kline which I found very good--but I like historical fiction. Very interesting.
  • Hello, I am Dia, new as well. Just purchased a fitbit and just registered with MFP. With winter coming, I needed some motivation to keep me moving and watching my diet. Things I am doing to get a handle on this over-50 weight creep (weight likes to re-distribute itself in the wrong places I am noticing)--mall walking after…
