I like this answer. Clear, sensible and to the point. I also like the hula hoop idea. I have been thinking of other cardio exercises I could do and hula hoop could be a fun one to do. Although probably more fun at the beginning, for anyone watching me try. I enjoy reading the MFP forum posts as they lead me in the…

I will be logging this Christmas. For a lot of people, Christmas is an indulgent time of drinking, snacking, picking, large portions, heavy meals and under exercising. This makes it all the more important for me to know that everything I eat is countable, I will be more conscious about what I am eating at that time. A…

Hello You are in a position that a lot of us here can empathise with, having been on the upwards spiral ourselves. My advice is to do small things to get you back on track, if the bigger things seem to much. One less snack, one smaller portion, a short walk etc. are things that contribute to a healthier you. Try to look…

That is basically what it boils down to and was well put. I don't think the weigh in interval matters too much as long as you are not too fixated on the numbers. I think it is really a case of pick the way that appeals and stick to it, so you get an accurate assessment of your weight under the same conditions. I weigh…

It could be that you are eating the right amount calories but not realise it: 1. Have you checked that you have marked the right activity level for your lifestyle? If you have a more active lifestyle than is indicated on your mfp setup, it will affect the amount of calories you are allocated for the day. 2. Do you record…

That has got to be one of the best results you could possibly have! Well done!

“As you think, so shall you become.” - Bruce Lee A good attitude, a good diet and a healthy lifestyle starts in the mind. This quote is a reminder to me that my mind controls my body and that positive thoughts lead to positive actions.

Good job! This is one of those milestones that you don't need a scales to tell you how well you are doing, you just get to enjoy the fruits of your efforts. Your body is showing you how much you are progressing and that is the most important part of your new healthy lifestyle. Well done!

Hello and welcome from another new mfp user. I have been using this website for a couple of weeks now and I find it invaluable for keeping me on the right calories track. It takes a little time to put your regular foods in, but then it gets much quicker. I have changed my diary meal names to meal times. I use 6 x 4 hour…

Hello At the bottom of the exercise diary and the food diary is a notes section. You are already doing most of it if you are filling in the food you are eating in the diary, if you just add the notes, that sounds like that should satisfy him. You can add a note to your food diary when you add the food, E.g. breakfast,…

My focus is on calories first and fat second. They seem to go hand in hand for weight loss. A lot of high fat items are high in calories too, so this works for me. By eating lower fat items, it helps to keep my calories down.

Being a treadmill fan, I appreciated the laugh at the treadmill clips. Hoping not to repeat any of those those clips though. Crawling on all fours on a treadmill. I never thought of that one!

Hello What I find helpful is to record my food in time slots not meal names. Using the 6 slots in 4 hour increments starting 12 am (midnight) 12:00 AM TO 04:00 AM etc. and finishing midnight. You can change your settings at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings Using this method means that whatever my…

Hello Some things that I do now that I wish I had done before may be helpful. For the snacking issue, I find preparing food in advance is helpful. I keep an almost constant supply of prepared raw vegetables in the fridge. This can be used for snacking and for salad meals too. I am more likely to eat a salad when it is the…

Hello and welcome! I am quite a new user myself and I am finding reading the message board interesting. I think using it is good for tips and motivation from sympathetic people who are at varying stages of the same process. My tips would be: Keep your food and exercise diary up to date, meal by meal if you can. There is a…

Hello The frequent foods list is one of the tabs you can see when you have clicked to add food to your diary, if you are looking for it. Tea is at the top of my list and it is staying there!

Hello and welcome back! I am still quite new to the site and I find it very useful. I started my weight loss journey before I was using a food and exercise diary but I find using this website focuses me more on the right nutrition and taking in healthy calories and working on burning them off too. I think in your making…

Hello That is an interesting question. Snacking at work is one of the things that can make or break a good healthy diet. I have read some of the replies and there are one or two I am tempted to try. Sometimes when I am working I really feel like a snack, which is not always about feeling peckish but the act of eating,…

Hello I think if you are aware of your food intake, that is the important serious step in weight control and if you on infrequent occasions go over then, this is not an issue. 1770 calories is a low calorie allowance to begin with anyway. A healthy diet makes for a healthy body but a life without treats would be a little…

Hello I am a recent convert to walking and working, welcome to the club! I love the idea of multi tasking and knowing that moving my body is more healthy than sitting. It is also a great way to keep warm. I really enjoy it and I plan on continuing to do it. I believe that movement is the key to weight loss. Since using the…
