Hello and welcome to MFP. You have made a very good first step by coming here. I have been using the MFP food diary for several months and I have found it extremely useful. My first tip for you as a newcomer to the site would be log everything, everyday. No matter how the figures look, it is better to know. Knowledge puts…

My current motivation is thinking about the alternative me. How my life would be if I put on X number of pounds instead of losing them. Every pound loss is not just a pound loss to me. The non calorie conscious me would be without the pound loss and added more weight in the same period instead. The alternative me could…

I tried meal segments but with a varied schedule and changeable meal times, I find it easier with time segments. Each day starts/ends at midnight with 6 x 4 hour meal intervals 12am - 4 am, 4 am to 8 am etc. This way I can see when I am eating most/least at certain times of the day and enables me to plan my calorie needs…

Know the calorie cost of each portion and how it fits into your nutritionally balanced diet before you eat it.

True for me too. It is often a compromise. A lot of my meals are repeated and I have got used to what I can serve to stay within my calorie budget. I try to plan my food diary for the day and I use the notepad to record the exact portions served as they will be slightly different to the pre-recorded ones. I also like to…

When you are watching television and and find yourself mentally calculating the calories, fat and sugar content of the food shown and categorising it as 'I would eat that' or 'I would not eat that' or 'I could eat that if I exercised x number of minutes'. I am much more aware of food content and look out for new food ideas…

This was true for me too often. Now it's You know you are on MFP when you keep a notepad and pen by the scales, so you can log every gram after the meal.

I sometimes use Mint Sauce from a jar, to liven up meals. I have tried it with a variety of vegetables. It does not have many calories and can add a bit of zing to a meal quickly. I sometimes add onions, which seem to compliment most vegetables.

Cravings are hard to resist and there can be a little trial and error involved in finding the right things to curb or satisfy a particular craving. I have found on occasion that when I have a craving for one thing I can eat something else in an attempt to satisfy it, only for the craving to persist. To combat this, I try…

Welcome to MFP. There is a running/jogging upstairs in the database, just type stairs to find it. Walking is a great form of exercise and can be found in the cardio exercises http://www.myfitnesspal.com/exercise/search. In addition, you can create your own by clicking on 'Add an exercise to the database'. I am still fairly…

I think dancingj2 has posted a great challenge. The 10,000 steps a day aim is one that is achievable and can be incorporated into most people's day. It was one of my first aims when I started on my healthier journey. Thanks to combining my computer with my treadmill the 10,000 steps a day is easily exceeded. I am walking…

My plan is to keep heading in the right direction.

I could not stay within my calorie allowance and lose weight if I ate everything I wanted to eat. Particularly, as most of what I would like to eat is higher in fat and therefore calories, than what I am eating now. If I had a day of eating all those things, there would not be enough exercise hours in the day to burn it.…

Welcome to MFP. I am still quite new myself. I have found the food and exercise diary and the contribution of other members very helpful. I also found using a kitchen scales a very useful tool. I am more often now finding my assessment of a portion size matches that of the scales. My tip would be log everything, no matter…

Only just under but I have a feeling Boxing day will be over. Read a good blog on the subject of going over. It has a positive view on going over and how to deal with it. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/makingamiracle/view/day-eight-the-15-days-of-new-years-605388

Today is my cheat day and perhaps my birthday too. Over and above that I have no plans. I am still new to MFP and after some adjustments to my food and exercise plan, I have a routine that works for me at the moment, so I do not plan to add any other cheat days yet. I exercised a bit more before Christmas to minimise the…
