There are many options to chose from depending on your preferences. Do you want to focus on strength or cardio or do a mix of both? What is your level of fitness? How much time do you want to spend? Do you want to follow along with some video or complete your routine on your own? I started a few weeks ago with this simple…

I didn't like the 'person above you' threads as much as he did... :brokenheart:
-
Of course it depends on my weight but since I'm not wearing a HM and just use MFP's very general predefined exercises it all just a wild guess anyway. My question is intended to get a feel for how much more is burned as the weeks progress and the workouts get harder. For example you seem to burn around 15% more…

MUHAHAHA! I would totally buy that book. And convince everybody that it is the ONLY way to lose weight!

Can someone explain the idea behind her meal plan? Like amounts of protein/carbs/fat? Other things that are important to watch? I'm vegetarian and need to modify a lot of the recipes. Also a lot of her recipes seem to have an awefull lot of ingredients and take quite some time to prepare. So I would like to understand the…

I was planning on starting this weekend but I might as well join you guys and start today :flowerforyou: Some months ago I tried the first workouts a few times. I hated the cardio one, though. It was so boring I turned it off half way through. So I guess, I'm not going to do her cardio workouts but do TurboFire instead. Do…

I'm working up my courage to start Body Revolution this weekend. I'm totally scared :embarassed: so I could use a little extra motivation and support. If you like, add me :-)
-
I love the TurboFire Workouts. But if you don't, find something that works for YOU. It doesn't matter so much what program you chose as long as you enjoy it enough to stick with it and give it your all :drinker:
-
To cardio or not to cardio? I guess I'm still confused after all....
-
Thanks for the opinions! I'll go do some cardio now :-D
-
Loved the books, sign me up!
-
Hey and welcome! I only own the Turbo Fire, there is a sample workout from CLX on it, but it does not seem as much fun :( I'd be curios to hear your experiences, though. I'm trying to find a fun way to build some muscle and have not found something, yet. Good luck! Bunny

The fitbit Aria is not very consistent: When I step on it twice within a few minutes, weight can differ as much as a pound or two. I googled it and somewhere it said that its accuracy is only 2 pounds! That's of no use to me and unacceptable for that price. :explode: I'm back to my cheap offline but reliable scale...
-
So you're wearing a wristband or something for fitbit to track you calories? Sadly no such device can actually measure the calories used, also heart rate monitors can only give you an estimate. The quality of that estimate varies and depends on several factors. For a lot of people this estimate is actually off by 30%! I…
-
How does the fit bit calorie adjustment work? How are these calories measured? Either you really are not losing weight because you - overestimate the calories burnt - underestimate the calories eaten But you say that's not the case. So maybe as mentioned before your weight loss might just be hidden for example because of…
-
Did you exercise regularly before or just started? Starting a new exercise program or intensifying your workouts can cause water retention and thus 'hide' the weight loss on the scale. I still can't access your diary...

I never heard the term Calisthenics before. I'm learning so many new things here today. Wow. And thanks.

Your money analogy doesn't quite work for me because I would love to become rich fast and then spend it all. Spending money is fun! I don't see the point in having money just to have it. Of course that doesn't change the fact that all the things you said about diet and fitness are completely true :flowerforyou:

Just for today I'll try something new: Strength training!

Hey and welcome, I know all about the cycles of well eating and undoing the 'success' shortly after... I started my current cycle of well eating and exercising two weeks ago and I'm very determined to stick with it. :drinker: So I would love to give and receive some encouragement (even some butt kicking if needed). If you…

Yes! Encouragement and accountability, I'm in! I don't have very many friends on MFP because I like to actually track their progress, get to know them a little, know their story and their approach to weight loss. Unfortunately some of my friends have become inactive so I would like to add a couple new ones :-)

When I don't do what I planned to do, I beat myself up about it. When I do what I planned to do (and do it well) I feel happy. So when I don't feel like doing something I give myself the choice: - Suffer a little now but feel plenty happy and good afterwards - Suffer a long time while putting myself down and hate my self…

Oh, and how do I log this? I have never logged any strength exercise... There is a circuit training and a body weight training in the data base but both put the calories at around 200 for 20 minutes. That seems way too high. Weight lifting on the other hand seems to low with only 80 cals. Help?
-
Woot! Woot! I just tried the nerdfitness beginners workout which suggests the following: Three times a circuit of: 20 body weight squats 10 push ups (used my couch, I'm still faaar away from regular push ups) 20 walking lunges 10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug) 15 second plank (did these on my knees) 30 Jumping…

I'm a pudding vegetarian (and so are quite a few other people I know): We can live of pizza, spaghetti, ice cream, chips and chocolates for days and days. No problem :-) Going vegan/vegetarian does not necessarily equal a healthy life style. Nor does it mean becoming/staying thin. I wish...

I started the 16:8 version of intermittent fasting two weeks ago. For me this means starting to eat between noon and 1pm and stop eating between 8 and 9pm. This has really helped me to avoid accidental snacking and I never have to go hungry. The first few days I got hungry in the late morning but that passed quite quickly.…

Yes! Why don't you get a hot plate? It's small, cheap and will allow you to cook almost anything (that doesn't need an oven). Assuming that you know how to cook... I ate a lot of side dishes in college and learned that two to three side dishes (veggies, potatoes etc.) plus a dessert (yogurt) make a full meal for me :-)
-
Oh, and I would like to try the next step in intermittent fasting and do it 5:2. Does anybody have experience with that?
-
You're right in that people tend to interpret studies like this out of context. But what do you mean by "Especially not until the effects on healthy individuals are known."? The effects of water fasting on healthy individuals are well known. Fasting is not a new thing, you know? This certainly isn't an article relevant for…

Haha. That page is funny! "So you want to get in shape, but you have no gym membership. That’s fine, screw gyms! They’re loaded with chumps, meatheads, pushy salesmen, and people who suck at working out." Love it. Also the beginners workout they suggest doesn't seem too intimidating. I'm going to try that tomorrow.…
