Well that all depends on what you're into, I guess. But it's true. Blaming food for your own impulse control issues is why so many people buy into the "good" food and "bad" food stuff. I mean sure, there are some foods that are so high in calories and low in nutrients for a small portion it can seem ridiculous, but if I…

I honestly never got why people try to argue when they ask for things like this. It's a fact that detoxes are unneeded and can even be dangerous depending on your health conditions. Would you ask the cafeteria worker at your office what was for lunch today, and then when they tell you macaroni, try to argue that it is…

The daughter was hiding food specifically because her father says SOMETHING that upsets her so much that she'd rather eat it in secret than have him catch her and say/do whatever he was again. It might be good-natured ribbing in his eyes, but I know from experience that intent doesn't make it hurt any less. And the OP…

Another person who had a (step)father making fun of what I ate. He was incredibly overweight so it wasn't like he was one to talk, but it really can make you feel ashamed, so I hope he does actually learn.

I've heard of women doing these before their wedding, but I can't imagine it's that comfortable- you can't drink water or you "gain" back what you lost, after all.
-
Pretty much the same situation except replace boyfriend with sister. You can add me if you like!
-
In most cases it's likely this. I'm not saying the OP is one of them, but a lot of people seem to want to hear that they're special snowflakes and break the laws of physics somehow so they can justify not putting effort into measuring and weighing their portions.

I don't have my diary open to more than anyone on my friends list, so I understand the trepidation. But without actual proof of your diet, there's very little accurate help anyone can provide other than what's been said (and very little proof to the contrary).

This. I measured things by cups and pieces before I got a food scale, and when I did, I found out that the "about one cup" or "about nine pieces" was way inaccurate. It could be high, it could be low. But if it's high, then yes, you are eating more calories than you think. Honestly, if you're so confident, open your diary…

I, and most people likely to respond to this thread, don't believe in jump starts. It's a mental thing, anyway, and drinking shakes isn't going to "make your body ready" for a big plate of low-fat chicken and leafy greens. Just put that excitement into eating the way you planned to after the shakes.

No? You can overdose on anything, but most vitamins and minerals would take an extreme amount. It would take a lot of citrus fruit to get to it.
-
Why wouldn't you? As everyone else said, certain fruits and veggies are high in calories and can wipe out a deficit if you feel like you can eat a lot of them. Plus, if you're paying attention to nutrition, not logging them might make it look like you're low on fiber/vitamins/whatever you're paying attention to on your log.

"I totally have like twelve studies to support my claim that goes against established knowledge in the scientific community!" "Links?" "Lolno" < How most debates on MFP go That said I'm a grazer. I have my meals (maybe five or six times out of seven I'll have all three) but most of my logging is smaller snacks I have…

She's not letting it be an excuse though, or rather, she doesn't want it to be. She wants to know how to deal with it so that it can be removed from the equation. She realizes that it stresses her out, and that when she stresses, she has a tendency to overeat. It is, perhaps, a habit she should take care of, but for now,…

False. Whether it means some days she eats 500 calories for whatever reason, and others she eats 1500, either way she's setting herself up for weight loss even if she's hungry afterwards. The former would see more rapid loss, but is, of course, far more dangerous.

I thought they might finally not be a thing anymore, but when I was looking at real supplements that actually help you in your vitamin and mineral needs, there both of them were... Edit: and can't forget green coffee bean extract.

I'm in Maine as well. Feel free to add me!

Notice I also included that it's low-fat and has fiber. Fiber helps keep you full and helps with digestion. I agree you should eat what you want (in moderation) but I'd thank you to read my full post before making comments.

Three tablespoons of unpopped Wal-Mart brand air pop kernels is 130 calories. It produces more than enough to fill a sandwich bag, and spray it with oil or just a little bit of salt and you're hardly adding anything. Add to that only 1.5 grams of fat (poly and monounsaturated) and 5 grams of fiber, and I don't see how it…

Edit messed up so duplicate post

Nope.

I tried sweet potato fries. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but I found it to be kind of awful. Gimme those russets. Also for seventy calories, I can eat a bag of my favorite fruit snacks and get 100% DV of vitamin C. That's a better deal for me.

The thing is, a lot of people who follow "eat no white food" are newbies who don't know better. I like wheat and whole grain better, but the difference between those and white bread really is minimal as far as nutrients. The first ingredient of Wonder Bread is, after all, whole wheat flour.

So no cauliflower, onions, mushrooms or garlic? Darn, if it were that easy I would've gone for that nutrition minor in college.

I'm the B in the acronym and extremely supportive of the community  Anyone who sees this is free to add me and/or message me.

Nope. If you lose weight at all, it will be because of calorie deficit, not some magic pill that, as opposed to what Dr. Oz and other shills say, has actually been proven ineffective in weight loss in clinical trials (and can even be dangerous, though that's more other pills that have caffeine in them).
-
I think it's just that we're all so used to hearing people saying "YOU CAN'T EAT CARBS" or "TAKE THIS PILL IT WILL MELT THE FAT OFF" that someone actually saying "Eat what works for you as long as it's at a deficit" is kind of mind-blowing.

From what I read earlier in the thread, the book seems to be mostly standard, good diet advice on foods you should eat to hit your macros/micros and what amounts to eat them in. It seems like something you could easily get for free online, but honestly? I'd prefer something like that getting big than Dr. Oz and his…

Sandwiches is my immediate thought. You shouldn't eliminate them just because you have a breakfast sandwich, because you can put literally anything in them. Leftovers might work too; I often eat leftover pizza or chicken cold rather than heating it up and tastes fine to me.

5'3, 170 lbs right now. My goals are going in increments so my goal right now is 160 and I'll set a new one once I see how I feel at that weight. Most of my exercise is walking and my body cycle. Feel free to add me!
