  • Admittedly I'm told it was other health issues than his diet but yeah not good publicity.
  • I'm in the same boat as far as falling off the wagon, though I did because I moved and got a new job and didn't have a very stable life for a while. Now that sanity is returning I'm hoping to return to this. I'll add yahoo and maybe we can help each other out!
  • Back in 2004 my health teacher said she and her husband went on Atkins, lost a lot of weight and then gained it all back after a good Thanksgiving meal. Normally one might gain a pound or two on a splurge like that so uh yeah.
  • Canned soups can tend to be high in sodium which can make you retain water if not counteracted with enough water, but by itself? Nah.
  • Especially considering they had "for weight loss and health benefits" tacked on there but edited it out. Honestly I don't really eat red meat but I'm not going to tell you not to. Making foods off-limits entirely just makes you want them more.
  • Personally, my eyes rolled into the back of my head when I realized the article wasn't actually about food/chemicals in food that are only used in the US, but ones that happen to be used in the US but are banned in SOME other countries. America is teh evul.
  • Wig? What about a tin hat?
  • Different things can make different people feel bloated. If there's a food you know gives you gas, that's an obvious one. High levels of salt without a lot of water to break it up can lead to water retention, which can also lead to you feeling bloated.
  • Unless you have a sensitivity to them, the only thing you really risk is getting tired of them. However if eating that much is consistently putting you over your calorie goals or making it harder to fit other things in, you might want to take a look at your diet and decide if you should cut back there or in other areas. My…
  • Raisins have lots of iron, as does jerky (which can be a healthy snack if you pay attention to labels or make it yourself so you have control over what goes into it). As far as calcium, a go-to might be yogurt.
  • Pretty sure most people will tell you that any one would be fine as long as you know how many calories it is and log it correctly. And it's true. If you have room in your day for it, then why not have a full-calorie drink over a 'light' one? Unless of course you find one you enjoy. Then you have room for even more :)
  • Some people do good with restricting themselves to nothing after supper, or only a small snack after supper but nothing after 8/9 pm. I tried it and it didn't work for me. My sleeping patterns suffered and as soon as I had a handful of crackers before bed, I slept like a baby. Obviously that's not how everyone works, but…
  • I try to go off ingredients from the local grocery store, since it's likely they buy a lot of stuff from there. Of course my town only has two grocery stores with pretty much the same brands so it's easier for me to do than it might be for you.
  • There are a ton of different brands that will have different calorie counts. You can't just enter "egg" you have to enter the specific brand of egg you use so it'll have the exact calorie and nutritional count. MFP is one of the most extensive food databases on the web (as far as free ones, anyway) so unless you raised the…
  • The body can only process so much of any vitamin or mineral, and any excess is generally just peed out, as far as I know. There are rare cases where someone has had so much that it poisoned them, but I doubt you're at that level.
  • Try looking in the recipes section; slow cooking meat seems to be a favorite on this site. And why not? It's easy to toss a whole ham or bird into a slow cooker with some vegetables and let it cook while you're at work, and if you aren't cooking for a large family, there's plenty in leftovers afterwards. On that note,…
  • Wow, calling someone overweight on a site where one of the goals is to lose weight. That'll get you friends, huh? On that note, there's a difference between going out into the sun with sunscreen on and not laying out in it directly all day and staying inside with blackout curtains, just like there's a difference in having…
  • You can also get skin cancer from excessive exposure to the sun but no one's telling you to stay inside and hide under your bed until night time.
  • I'd say avoid eating anything with arsenic in it. It can make your day pretty bad.
  • My calorie goal is only a little above yours. One of my favorite meals for lunch or supper is flatbread pizza; the way I make it, it amounts to only 360 calories, but it could be even less depending on what you use. There are also sandwiches. If you want to avoid the high sodium content of deli meats, you could cook up a…
  • As another poster said, it can be so high in carbs and fat because of how it's made. Carbs and fat aren't bad, but it can be difficult to fit a commercial pizza into your day if you aren't having a "cheat" day. I love pizza, so I try to fit it in as much as possible. What I've found to do is use Flat Out flatbread (I use…
  • Peanut butter pancakes and turkey bacon! Which sounds more like breakfast but oh well. It was my first time trying to make peanut butter pancakes and it was a bit of a mess while I figured out proportions, but it was pretty good.
  • Try looking for calorie-dense food if you aren't in the habit of snacking a lot. Non-lean meat, for instance, or if you aren't lactose intolerant or some other restriction, you could use whole milk in recipes instead of low-fat or non-lactose alternatives.
  • I enjoy diet Snapple. I've only had the raspberry so I can't say anything for the other flavors, though XD It has about ten calories a bottle and I, personally, actually like the diet better because I find the "full" version has a strange taste to it under the flavoring.
  • If you're looking for potassium, sweet potatoes actually have more of it per serving than bananas, and they can be used for pretty much anything that potatoes can be.
  • One of the difficult things I've found about keeping my food log accurate is going to a friend's for dinner, or a party, or to a non-chain restaurant. Unless it's a well-known recipe, it's not bound to be in the database exactly. You can enter it yourself if you know it, or use quick-add calories, but then you sacrifice…
  • Well popsicles are a frozen treat and you can make them by simply putting juice in a mold or ice cube tray. Snow cones are a frozen treat and all they are is crushed ice and flavoring. The difference between those and what you're talking about is that at least they're honest about it.
  • What even is the Biggest Losers diet? All I hear from shows like that is that they work the people ragged and severely restrict their diet well beyond what would be reasonable for long-term habit changes (and of course the typical 'they gained it back later' stories).
  • Both times your threads were closed by a mod giving the reason that you needed to take it to a group of like-minded individuals instead of littering the forum. The first thread was people calling you out and repeatedly asking you for actual proof of your claims. The second one was the same people who were only in to see…
  • The counter can't tell the difference between sugar from a candy bar and sugar from fruit. Neither is necessarily problematic unless you have diabetes or something, though, so I'd suggest just ignoring it for the most part.
