I've been calorie counting to the gram about a month now. It's very much a reeducation. Where before a plate of nachos is now enough to serve 8 people; is eye opening. Mind you I know there is no way I could eat one serving and be satisfied so I use 2 servings and just keep counting the calories. I may be approaching this…

I'm about to look into more into sodium and the feeling that sodium does raise blood pressure but that is not an indicator of bad health. Again it's just a offshoot of all the cholesterol is an indicator of heart disease stupidity that has been going on for years. Excess or lack of will make your total weight go down or up…

MrM27: I'm not saying I am. I know how out the BF% scale can be. It's a relative number can use because I've had the scale a long time. I'm going to go by inches lost in the long run.

I'm going to get on a 2000 minimum + 50% of additional motion. I'm currently 500 short of that but that will be easy to make up. The Bodymedia device seems to be monitoring my output calories pretty well.

I double checked, my height was wrong and was corrected before I gave you the numbers but it is set to male. Selected seditary and work out 60minutes for 6 days a week.

rabbitjb: sorry if I sound pendantic, MFP tells me I should be eating 1200 calories and burn 2300 calories.

Sabine_Stoehm: the 1800 was an example, when I do no exercise at all it's 2013, when I do exercise it can range from 2700-3300. It's not the same thing every day since I don't stick to a particular set of activities. How accurate it is who knows I use a bodymedia device and only estimate when I'm in the water swimming.

I'll add that it's an incomplete picture. Are you eating for tour goals. Sleep. Ability to focus. The point is for basic fitness you are defiantly doing good if you have fed your body properly.

I don't know much about herniated disks but if it's a permanent condition and is only aggravated by continued stress, think very carefully if that is worth it. Some things are just not worth it.

Damata, you touch o something that had problems before my weight trek and I don't sleep well. I don't believe it's related to my under eating aa it hasn't go worse and can sleep. Also there is a good chance that I'm doing better than before I'm just more aware of it.

I've owned a garmin vivofit, 2 tanita old school fat scale, polar loop, an mio alpha and a bodymedia device for personal testing and waiting on delievery on a M400 with HRM strap. I have some basic experience with the fitbit line but them not being waterproof is a deal breaker for me. I swim so that's an important aspect…

what a long thread. lol. I gave up after page 6. so forgive me if this has been said. I weigh everything and I recently went to a pizza joint and didn't realize how many calories are everywhere. It is a good warning to potential OCD people as my fridge and grocery store has become a sea of numbers and it's a huge turn off…

@neanderthin, exactly just because you can choose to eat outside of whats made in a monocrop. I'm not suggesting we reject everything, just be knowledgeable and do a best guess and the least risk. And yes it is possible it's all wrong.

Thank you that is very detailed answer. Can I just jump my calories to a 500 or 1000 caloric deficit and hold it there? How long should in weight to trust the scsl or nmeasurement? I'm still confused with Jon starvation mode yet you talk about metabolicn capaacity. What is the difference?

@mrm27, so averaged out 7 days? I don't tell myself it will be the next day. If I do more exercise I eat more, if I exercise less I eat a little less.

@stevencloser yes. I realize that. I wish there was more consensus.. now refined sugars and highly metabolised carbs and lack of exercise are the big enemies.. With all this fat is okay, do we just go out and eat all the fats we want up to what bodies needs?

jgnatca: During this entire process I haven't gone hungry. The only huge change is I watch what I eat and see where my TDEE is at for the day. Yesterday I could of not eaten but the numbers were telling my caloric deficit would be way to high. So I ate to get up to my average (which is still too high).

@EvgeniZyntx , I don't follow. If I'm planning to eat more to get closer to my TDEE how am I going to signal hunger signals/pains?

@bigguy47, ice cream did not exist at the dawn of man. and I'm not making it as if all man made substances are evil. It's just having an awareness of what you are eating which includes what it does physiologically.
