I found out about Escali scales a while ago and when my really, really old dial scale broke, I got one and it's worked well. http://www.scalesonline.com/p/2787/escali-b180-clear-glass-platform-bathroom-scale 30 bucks and I haven't had to change the batteries since I got it.
