I just spent 6 months in a medical study limiting my calories to 1550 and my fat to 43 grams per day. After 6 months, I lost 17 pounds. I would still try and eat low carb to keep me from having cravings. The problem was I would only end up with 800 calories and 43 grams of fat. In order to increase the calories without…

You need to eat protein to build muscle. You could be losing weight now but some of that could be muscle making your body fat % the same.

You have gotten some great advice. Do you own a heart rate monitor? Very intense exercise for a short period of time will help with the depression, better than medication. You don't need a gym to do jumping jacks as fast as you can for a couple minutes once per hour. Rowing should really help with the anxiety. Eating right…

Thank you for the compliment. Surprisingly those are not my highest and lowest weights. My goal is to get under OBESE by the time of the show. I also plan on growing an inch - ha ha.

nice suggestion!

where is my quote? agree with the person who defined safely. I lost a 5 pounds a week for about 3 + weeks about 10 years ago and kept it off. But that was starting from scratch. Because I've already lost weight and have been eating nutritionally for the past decade I don't see any hope of that fast. I've done a modified…

The problem is that they are not getting the protein needed at 500 calories a day.

Great news for you, losing just 7% of your current weight will reduce your chances of getting diabetes by 54%. There really is such a thing as healthy obese. Once you start losing weight, your mind and body will help you continue your weight loss. Eat whole foods and walk 30 minutes a day. Eliminate all sugar for 2 weeks.…

Your cravings are possibly partly due to malnutrition but almost assuredly due to spiking and crashing blood glucose levels. You could be heading toward diabetes. Worldwide, 50% of diabetics are undiagnosed. If you cut out the sugars and carbs for 2 weeks, you can gain control again. Feel free during your cold turkey phase…

There was an article in Forbes magazine about MFP making FITBIT and Jawbone UP obsolete. An IPhone 5S now tracks your steps. I returned my UP because its really just an expensive pedometer. You still need the heart rate monitor and have to add stuff that MFP already links with like Map My Walk, Ride or Run. Ruth J Princess

It was 1992. As if waking from a drunken blackout, I found myself curled-up on the pantry floor. I licked my lips and couldn’t tell if the salty taste was from my tears or a box of crackers I’d just devoured. I wiped my face and felt a warm softness smudge my cheek. I looked at my hands, dots of brown. I glanced to the…

You are absolutely normal. Psychological studies say that your have to get ready to get ready. One thing you can do for yourself right now is set a baseline. Use the bar code scanner function in MFP and record what you are eating. Don't worry about counting calories, just record them. I specialize in motivating the…

My advice is always, "Don't Drink Your Calories." Shakes can be easy for consuming in the car but your brain and body want you to chew your food to prove you are eating and help you feel full. If you really want a smoothie, eat it with a spoon while wearing arm weights. Ruth J Princess

Mixing BMR and TEE, yes and no. If I literally don't do anything all day, wouldn't that be BMR? The base calculation though is on TEE less ExEE. So how do you calculate sedentary verses slightly active verses active not counting exercise?

I feel that eating and dieting can be a catch 22. I love not being hungry and having energy at 800 calories. When I'm eating 1250 calories I feel like I get much hungrier and have to refrain from eating 2000 calories. When I do eat 2000 calories, I gain weight and feel tired all the time. I think what is important is…

I should have said "it can be an addiction." I disagree that you have to do Atkins for life. Doing it for 2 weeks can put your body back to normal blood sugar regulation. If you start eating sugar or starches after the two weeks and the cravings are out of control, then you might be addicted or you might be insulin…

YES! But concentrate on diet for weight. Exercise if vital for health and it will allow you to look and feel better. But if you are watching the scale, study after study says it revolves around food. Keep up the weights, keep up the walking. If more intense workouts make you hungry then cut back a little on the working out…

It's an addiction. You want to go cold turkey to gain control. Seriously, try the Atkin's diet for 2 weeks. Only 30-50 carbs a day. As many veggies as you want. NO SUGAR. NO FRUIT. Don't let yourself get hungry. Eat hard boiled eggs, cheese and cream cheese for snacks during the day. Drink LOTS of WATER. Do NOT drink soda…
