I track the food I eat in my own journal. I think you are misunderstanding me. I frequently glance at my food journal for the week to see what kind of food I've been eating. From that, I can assess to see if I had enough clean food to enjoy a nice sized cheat dessert or meal. Since I don't count food calories, I use my own…

Yes it is easier to lose weight when being a young adult. I agree. By establishing these healthy habits now, in 20 years (lord willing), I should be one of those healthy fit older men. Aging shouldn't be acquainted with being fat and out of shape. Yes, weight gain is inevitable but it doesn't have to be a major weight…

Yes! I was 269 in late 2011 and when I met my girlfriend 6 months later, I gained 25 lbs back by late 2013. What saved me was logging my food. I've been documenting what I eat since early 2012. Not noticing my portions were getting bigger, even though I wasn't eating "bad". I stopped working out as much and I had more…

What do you typically eat? What are your workouts like? Do you run, use elliptical, play sports? How many cheat meals do you have a week, if any?
-
If you eat correctly during the week, and workout (weekends included), having an ice cream sundae with 3 scoops and a little bit of fudge chocolate is plenty of indulging without guilt. Being aware of your deficit if you eat consistently is not very difficult. If you had a bacon burger today, and can't fit in a suitable…

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1238873-men-5-9-6-0-ft-goal-weight-200 Seems like we have a similar goal. You are a few inches taller, but you started from where I started basically. If feel like if you can do 220, why not do 200 and be slim and broad. I'm in your corner, you can do this!

Great accomplishment. Age is nothing but a number and you proved it. Anyone can do it!

Figure I share this article that shows the Pros and Cons of calorie counting. Again, this is not to bash, but MFP is mentioned in it. Do what works for you. http://mymindcoach.com.au/calorie-counting-for-weight-loss-pros-and-cons/

I eat three meals a day, I drink 110oz of water or more for 3 days, and taper off at the end of the week from 40-70oz per day. I drink tea to suppress my appetite before or after a meal. I use protein bars for snacks before the gym. I burn no less than 500 calories per workout. I have a cheat meal every weekend, sometimes…

Very good point. You will experience stalls in any weight loss plan. You just have to learn how to adjust. My goal is to get to 200, which is 20 lbs below what I indicated in my ticker. For the record, I do count my exercise calories, but as far as food intake, not really necessary at this point in time. I create deficits…

Preach man. Preach!!! Counting calories feels like a math test to me more than just eating to live and have fun. Congrats on that 130 lbs. It can be done and you are living proof. How long have you been on your journey?

The most supportive thing anyone has said in this thread. Thank you for understanding the context of my post. Also, thank you to the others who also acknowledged my point and congratulated me. I was able to break my weight barrier by joining this website and learning from you guys. Seems to be more negative people on here…

\ I came across MPF late last year. I was looking up motivation articles for losing weight and this was a top site for that. I hesitated to create a profile but I decided to b/c of the amount of people on here and what tools it gave us to lose weight. I've been tracking my food for two years, off of MFP on my own cell…

I'm glad you understood where I was coming from. Some people took my thread to as an outlet to bash others who rely on calorie counting to lose weight. That is not my intention. I should have been more clear in the first post. My apologies. Yes, calorie counting is good to get you started or back on track. However, weight…

I don't use the site to count calories. I use it to track weight and progress, read success stories, gain motivation, and connect with others going down a similar path. More power to the calorie counters. Do what works for you.

Not boasting, just trying to get acquainted with people that lost without calorie counting. I am sure I am not the only one to do it this way. I was a person that never thought I could do it alone. I did it alone. I attempted to use a nutritionist and even with her advice and journal logs for how I should do it, I wasn't…

When I was 325, simply changing from fried foods to baked helped me shed 55 lbs in 7 months. I worked out consistently but weight dropped due to my body responding to the healthy choices I made. I agree with you on that. I still log my intake on my cell phone and even duplicate some days of the weeks where I've lost a good…

I started my weight loss journey in April 2011. I was 325. I started my diet again on October 26, 2013 and I weighed in at 295. However, I didn't join MFP until early December, which I weighed in at 277. So the ticker reads right, according to when I joined MFP. Lol, no April Fools here. :)

I love bread and pasta myself. However, I reach a new beginning by not buying bread at all! I eat wheat pasta about once every 6 weeks. My body has responded well to it. I only eat bread if I go to Subway, and I do that a couple times on the weekends, but it balances out b/c I work out all weekend. Keeping bread and pasta…

You bring up some valid points. I believe that counting calories can work for some things, but to base it on everything you eat is stressful and unrealistic. Eating less (even when eating healthy) is something I've found to work while not counting calories. Eating right so you can stay full is what really counts. Thinking…

Congrats man. I too lost 15lbs before joining MFP. Keep up the good work. Thank you for the extra motivation.

What do you weigh in at now?
-
195 is perfect for 6'1. Congrats on your journey. Any before/afters?
-
A good weight for a 6' man is anywhere between 185-205. I use BMI as a generalized standard on where I should be, however, we all know that it is something that we shouldn't be worried about to the T. My weight from 2011-2013 floated from 268-295. I thought I was doing good wearing 2x shirts at 275lbs. Keep on pushing man,…

Seems like my journey now, even though I started MFP at 277 lbs. My current goal is 220 but i've gained a lot of confidence to gun for 200. However, I want to drop down to 190 and then build muscle to 200lbs now. Any tips on how you've dropped 60 lbs so quickly?

I'm 5'10 myself and I started at 325 on April 12, 2011. If you don't mind, can you share how long it took you to get to that weight, along with some work out regimines and eating habits?
-
Congrats Bro. I'm the same height as you. I started at 325 three years ago. I'm 246 now. All elliptical and deficit eating. Thank you for the motivation. Incredible results!
-
You definitely need to can that guy. 140 is a great weight for 5'6.

I have found through my personal experience that tea drinking, mainly green and/or black tea is effective at appetite curbing. I used to drink three cups of tea per day in the beginning of my recent weight loss journey. After 3 months of adjusting to eating less, I drink less if none at all and I do not snack or feel…

200 lbs at 5'10 is what I'm shooting for. Currently I'm 249, my smallest in 10 years. Took me 4.5 months from 295 to get here. My in in initial goal was 220 but I think I'll look really slim and trim but semi brolic at 200lbs. Its a grown man weight. You can still run fast and jump high if you train at that size. Most…
