"This [magic] pill will.. <insert BS statement here>" "Burn your belly fat!" Spot reduction of any kind Muscle weighs more than fat Anything Atkins and the mindset that CARBS. ARE. EVIL!! "Good" Calories and "Bad" Calories (with respect to weight loss -- nutrition is a different subject) SMDH..

That doesn't surprise me, LoneWolf.. You ARE a beast :).

Regardless of whether you're running long distance on trail or road, multiple toenails will be lost. It comes with the territory.
-
Yeah, 5' 30"/km would be more realistic..

If you're looking for a GPS running watch, you can never go wrong with a Garmin. That's my preference. Regarding HR monitoring, Mio optical wristbands are over 99% accurate now. I would highly recommend the Mio Link. It's just as accurate, comfortable, and no chafing on long runs from the chest strap. This is the first…

Before I forget.. I also call BS on the runner who *averages* a 5' 30"/mile..

If you put in the work, try to consistently improve, and continue to put one foot in front of the other, you will get there. Just try to avoid injury and enjoy the process. Please don't think or worry about other runner's times.. it's irrelevant and would not be an accurate comparison. Just try to compete against yourself…

Yes; it's perfectly fine. Just ease into it to avoid getting injured. It has taken a bit to get where I am (I'm nobody special), but I usually run 6 days a week, mix in cycling, walking, elliptical training, yoga, small amounts of weight work, and body weight exercises. Plus by mixing it up, you can work different muscle…

I have the Forerunner 220 and love it. I had the Nike SportWatch before picking this one up. I'm really fond of knowing my run cadence for different paces, etc. without having to buy the shoe pod. I will warn that it is not very accurate on a treadmill, but that doesn't bother me. I despise the treadmill. The battery life…

I think that P90X or Insanity would be a little too hardcore to "begin" with. These programs are not very beginner friendly, you would have a high probability of getting frustrated/quitting the program, risking injury, and wasting your money. I would recommend to start with walking. As walking gets easier, try walk/jog…

^^ THIS -- except I'm a Don Julio man through and through. So, the global answer would be <alcohol name> + ("neat" or "straight up"). Cheers!

Hi Muzica! ^^This is good advice. I have a couple of recommendations as well if you are interested. I know that you are really enthusiastic about running more often and longer. If you want to do that, I highly recommend cross training, strengthening, and yoga in addition to your running. An example: I knew that if I wanted…

I will update my ticker tomorrow.. The bookmark is on my other computer. Friday, 8/1: 16.11km Saturday 8/2: 18.93km Sunday 8/3: 18.28km Total: 53.32km thus far not including cycling and cross-training. Cheers everyone!

I switched my goal over to kilometers. That's how I track it everywhere else..

180 miles in a month is NOTHING to laugh at.. at all! You've must have beast mode enabled yourself LoneWolf! I'm nobody.. Just a running addict :). And I wasn't able to put in that kind of mileage after a few months.. I'm a pansy lightweight compared to some of the beasts I see in my Strava groups. One of them finished…

I run around 10km or more almost every day. I was able to start running daily after a few months of consistent training and finished last month with 427km (a little over 265 miles). ** BUT -- I can't capitalize this enough ** I was a former recreational runner sidelined by injury for a LONG time. I had to get my body…

I'm with MarshallLuke on this. I hate the treadmill, but sometimes it is your only option. I also love to listen to Audiobooks when I run. If you start consistently running on the treadmill, vary your workouts often. Don't always go for speed. My rule for running (to prevent injury and give my body time to recover) is to…

Regarding web development, please do not waste your time or money with W3Schools "certification"; they are in no way associated with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C -- http://www.w3.org/) and you will more than likely get laughed at while wasting your money. There is a website dedicated to this topic alone:…

Welcome to the group! Regarding 5k warmup, ^Carson^ hit the nail on the head. I also normally run a 5k to get warm enough to race a 5k.

^ This.

First, thank you Stan for setting up this group! Awesome idea! Hello everyone! My name is Randall -- I live in Huntsville, Alabama. A little about me: I am an engineer by day, a family man by night, and a FORMER chain-smoker. I am also a running, soccer, and tattoo addict. I have an awesome wife who's tolerated me through…

I'm in. Put me down for 285 miles.

All of the above. My rule is to never do "hard" workouts on consecutive days to give your body plenty of time to recover and avoid injury. I typically do a hard day with less distance followed by an *easy* day with more mileage (like a HR zone based run, recovery run, etc.). I also try to make sure and do hill work or…

1. I prefer the Injinji 5-toe socks. The wick really well and I do not get as many blisters. Depending on how I feel, I may wear compression socks. 2. I love my Forerunner 220 + Mio Link HRM (wear on your wrist -- no chest strap). Very accurate and no chafing. 3. I only fuel before runs longer than 90 minutes. But, I run…

The Mio Link is awesome if you want to ditch the HRM strap. Works perfectly with my Forerunner 220 and any app on my phone :).

Do what you enjoy and what you'll be consistent at sticking with. I would recommend adding variety to keep it interesting -- mix up the road, trails, and treadmill. This will help you stick with it. I personally love trail running b/c of the scenery, quiet, hills, parkours, and in this time of the year you get shade from…
