Please take care and pay close attention to your shins. Shin splints can cause stress fractures and that will definitely end your running season early. Ice your shins and stretch. Try running on a dirt path.

No, you don't HAVE to buy Newtons. For your first pair of running shoes, go to a running store and get fitted for shoes. Preferably somewhere that provides gait analysis. Try on a lot of different pairs of shoes. Make sure you run a little in them too.

I agree with some of the PP's. You should try going up in shoe size. Normally I wear 7 or 7.5, but my running shoes are 8.5. I learned this the hard way after my big toe nail fell off.

It is very safe to run alone in CP. What time were you thinking of going? Obviously, if you're worried about safety, I would go during daylight. Since the weather's been so nice, CP has been packed with people. You won't have to worry about running alone. I love running on the Bridle Path. Check it out if you can. Happy…
