My rule has always been to eat as much as you can while still losing, kind of like blackjack; get as high as you can without going over 21. If you're losing at 2000 calories, more power to you; I wish I had that metabolism!

You can do it! I started out with 74 pounds to lose, and I'm down to the last 15. And I hear you on the stress/depression/anger eating. I was always overweight, but I gained a lot when I was with my ex, who was neglectful and uncaring. Glad to see you're bettering yourself; good luck!

We are very much alike! I'm also a college senior, graduating in December. Getting married in May 2014, and I'm at 159 pounds with a goal of 140, maybe 135.

That's all there is to it! Once you really get started and get going, it's actually pretty easy. It's just the getting started part, but it looks like you've got that down.

Yes, it is!

Thanks, everyone!

I'm glad you're doing something to better yourself! In my opinion, this site isn't just for people who want to lose weight, but who want to get into a healthy body and stay there. I suggest taking up some kind of physical exercise that you like (I like walking). Then if you ever feel like going back to your bad habit, just…

I'm 5'3". Started at 214 pounds, and I realized that I really needed to stop making excuses because before too long I'd probably reach 300. I'm now at 167. Took me a couple of years of trial and error to figure out what exactly would work for me, but I've finally got it to where I am losing weight at a steady pace now. My…

I started out at 214 pounds with no idea what I was doing. I've now lost almost 50 pounds. I approached the process by adding exercise/cutting out bad foods one at a time. Once every couple of weeks, I allow myself to get fast food (it really is okay in moderation!) and not watch my calories for one day. That way if my…

My sister came over yesterday to try out some potential wedding hairdos on me, and we ordered stuffed crust pizza and stuffed pizza rolls from Pizza Hut. We ate the entire pizza and all but one roll. Today, I am watching my calories and everything else as usual, and things should be back to normal in a couple of days.…

I really only know enough to answer #1. It all comes down to calories; watching them is most important. However, I have found that watching my macros DOES help.
-
I can't speak for everyone, but if I don't watch my macros carefully, I end up gaining, too. If you're not watching your sodium intake, and you've been eating more sodium than usual the past couple of weeks, that could be what is causing you to gain.

That's just fine, just as long as you keep weighing in. Accountability helps keep you going!

I wouldn't worry if you're only 50-ish calories under 1200. It's not going to make that huge of a difference. And remember, this site is merely a tool for weight loss; it has no actual effect on your progress. How you treat your body determines that. I wish you good luck. Try to stay healthy!

I absolutely love pumpkin seeds (without the shell). Low in sodium, has a fair amount of fat but nothing too bad, and a fair amount of protein. 140 calories in 1/4 cup, which is a lot more than it sounds like. Even 1/8 cup is plenty for me.
