  • I use the app Heatlhy Out when trying to order food at a restaurant. You enter your dietary requirements and it tells you what restaurants near by have items on their menu that meet them. Then you can look at specific food items to see cals, carbs etc. You can also just select the restaurant and browse the menu. It works…
  • Unless you have issues with your blood sugar, there's little need to worry about the sugar macro. Importance ranking is calories, protein, fats then sugars. But if you are eating all that fruit and not losing weight, then you may want to try reducing your overall sugar intake, whether it's natural or not.

  • Weight loss and eating reduced carbs can often help in regulation of cycles, but it differs from person to person and there's no promise of success. I eat reduced, but not low, carb and take Metformin. if you have insulin resistance, taking metformin can help a lot with your cycle.
  • Hello! It sounds like you are in the right mindset to really give a full effort at this journey. I call this a lifestyle change, because diets end and as soon as we revert to old habits the weight comes right back. There are many ways to get/give support here. You can post in the forums, join groups, add and connect with…
  • My most recent NSVs: Discovering I'm much more comfortable in airline seats, restaurant booths etc. Wearing a sz14 wetsuit to go snorkeling! (I wore a sz 22 in Dec) Wearing pantyhose is much less torture now, easier to get on, no chafing from thighs rubbing together. Putting on my wedding dress on our 15th wedding…
  • Cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt, pickles, veggies with dressing as a dip, homemade salsa with a few chips, Skinny Cow caramel truffle ice cream bars, Skinny Cow chocolate peanut butter crisp bars, sugar free jello with reduced fat cool whip or whipped cream, chocolate skim milk, sugar free hot apple cider, a…
  • There are quite a few exercises you can do that do not require your leg/foot. Sit and Be Fit are chair exercises done while seated. Hand weights, stretch bands, table pedaler (you pedal with your arms) etc. Leg lifts with your good leg while seated, there's many options. I agree with the other poster, eating healthy foods…
  • Sliced turkey is a good option. For cost savings, you can buy a turkey breast, bake it yourself and slice. I've not found many sandwich meats marked low sodium unfortunatlely but there are a couple. There are quite a few low sodium soups available where we live too. You could also make your own using low sodium chicken…
  • I don't want to undo all the hard work I just put in to lose those pounds to be for nothing, so I don't believe in cheat days. I do allow myself some treats on occasion, but try to work it into my plan for the day. That may mean adding extra exercise time to walk off that cookie I wanted. I try to select healthier options…
  • You can't lose that much in that short of time while doing it in a healthy manner. The smaller one is at their starting weight, the slower you tend to lose. At your weight, 1 lb a week may be doable at first, but dropping down to .5 lb a week as you get closer to your goal. My estimate for 16 weeks for you would be 14-16…
  • Enter your stats and let MFP calculate your calorie goal. Start logging everything you eat, then gradually make adjustments until you are meeting all your goal levels for calorie, protein, fats, etc.

  • Use the self tanner or spray tan and buy a bottle of vitamin d capsules. I have proven vit d deficit (by blood work) and now take 1000mg every day.
  • My new confidence and vastly improved self esteem.
  • I was diagnosed type 2 in December. With diet and exercise changes, my last A1C was under 6. My doc was amazed in my fast improvement. I tell you this to make the point that you CAN do this. You CAN better manage your sugars and live a long life without suffering from side effects of the disease. Good luck!
  • By realizing that not starting today means it's going to take another year and a day. Not starting next week means it's going to be a year plus another week. The longer you delay, the longer it will take to reach your goals. Think of all the things you are missing out on, things you won't or can't do due to lack of…
  • It sounds like you'll be at home with your parents? How about just asking your mom to keep some of the healthier foods you are now used to eating available for you? Or if you are working, take some of your earned funds and buy those items yourself. What about cranking up your workouts to ensure you're burning off the extra…
  • Reduced carb, more protein, metformin and daily exercise have been working for me.
  • The less I eat of sugary treats, the less I want them. Realistically, you aren't going to avoid chocolate for the rest of your life. But I do feel strongly that if there's a specific food that you know you just can not have one serving and put it away, then it's a good idea to avoid that food item completely for a while,…
  • My first thought was the same as Staci's. Try to find a way to incorporate activity into your day with your kids. Now that the weather is getting nice, go for a nature walk, ride bikes, shoot some basketball or whatever you can get them interested in. Do you have a Wii or Kinect? Challenge them to a game of some sorts. I'd…
  • I've had a Mirena for almost 7 yrs and love it. My period, if you want to call it that, is light spotting for a day or two. No cramping, no back pain, no PMS. I do get some fluid retention but much less than before having the Mirena.
  • From that food list, you aren't getting enough veggies or dairy in your diet but have quite a few carbs. Set up your goals here and let MFP tell you what your macros and calories should be. Doing a combo of cardio and weight lifting will help you lose and tone at the same time. Go check out the exercise forum to get ideas…
  • To be diagnosed with diabetes at my hospital, you must have two fasting glucose levels above 126. Take a few deep breaths and relax a little. It's never too early to start making healthier food choices but you don't need to panic about this yet.
  • I eat reduced carbs, and that means fruit and starchy veggies are reduced as well. If you have a medical reason to reduce carbs like I do, then it should be helpful for you. Otherwise, just making healthier choices and staying within your calorie goals works just fine as well.
  • I have FM along with a few other issues. How about just walking? Do 5 minutes and stop. See how you feel the next day. If it's ok, try 6 min and stop. Keep going gradually adding a minute at a time until you get to your goal amount. You can do the same thing with cycling too. Do you have a pool nearby? Water aerobics,…
  • You are having quite a few carbs and not enough protein and healthy fats, which is what keeps you feeling full longer. You could add eggs, veggies, peanut butter, cheese, greek yogurt, nuts, whole grain bread, avocado, even bacon or sausage etc. it really takes some trial and error to find what works.
  • It definitely reduces my appetite and that's been a great thing! I can tell if I forget to take my meds, as I'll start sneezing (allergies) and get the munchies. I've found that for me, diet changes alone are ok but combining that with daily exercise has really made a huge difference in both my sugars and weight loss.
  • Plans like Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig are helpful for some folks. I feel these programs do not help you learn how to eat properly, correct portion sizes, how to handle special occasions etc. I say if you do one, be sure to put in the effort to learning proper diet or you'll easily regain when you go off it.
  • I limit all carbs in general, whether it's white bread or fruit, but this is due to a medical condition. My hubby does all the cooking here and it's been a learning experience for him to be sure. There's been many a battle over what I can and will eat but I stick to my guns. If he fixes something I can't really have, I'll…
  • Holidays and celebrations happen. No one making this lifestyle change is going to give up all the yummy foods for the rest of their life. Just make the best selections you can and be sure you are active. Even if you go over on calories, it's likely you'll still eat far less than you would have had you taken your getaway…
  • Reduce your carbs, increase protein and good fats. simple as that.
