  • I have a kinetic smart trainer with in-ride. The trainer is solid and heavy, my bike doesn't wobble on it. Set up was pretty easy as well.
  • I have a Kurt Kinetic smart trainer linked up to Zwift. Zwift keeps my indoor pedaling from getting boring and I've found I put in much more effort than simply "mailing it in" on my recumbent stationary bike.
  • I just completed my first Zwift ride today and loved it!
  • I've enjoyed using MFP but won't pay for the premium version at this time. I work at a large medical organization which has just introduced a website and app for logging nutrion/exercise. It's free and comes with incentives, the more you use it, the more chances you earn in their monthly drawings for stuff like Fitbits.
  • That is a great suggestion! He did show me how to take the front tire and saddle off out of necessity, we had to do it to get it into my car. Adding a bike rack to my wish list. LOL I took my first ride yesterday and love the ease in changing gears compared to my old bike. I struggled a bit to ride the same distance I was…
  • An update to my original post- I bought a TREK FX3 today. I liked the Electra Townie as suggested, it was quite comfortable, but it seemed heavy and I worried about being able to get up the hills around here. The TREK Verve was a contender too but it seemed too cramped, like the handlebar was too close to the seat. The FX3…

  • I'll join in. I'm terrible about tracking miles so maybe this will help get me into the habit. I'm getting ready to leave on vacation, so my posts will be intermittent. I am planning to do a fundraiser ride for the entire month of June called the Great Cycle Challenge. You select your own goal to meet and use their app to…
  • I have mild carpal tunnel normally but it's really being aggravated by riding. I bought padded gloves too and it's really helping. :)
  • Instead of bullion cubes, have you tried using chicken stock? It does come in a reduced sodium version. You'd still get the taste. I have no ideas about oranges, maybe clementines if you want the citrus flavor with fewer carbs.
  • I love the cookies and beer tips! LOL Bribery truly can work wonders. :) I have fibromyalgia, so finding the right bike is a must for long term enjoyment. The new gear does seem to be helping, although it can't compensate for having better equipment. Thanks for all the advise everyone. I truly appreciate it. The good news…
  • I searched out the two best reviewed shops closeby on yelp and will be visiting both. One includes a fit service with a new bike purchase but nothing on the other's website about it so I'll have to ask. You have convinced me that is definitely the way to go. :) I love those wide handle grips and will check to see if they…
  • I prefer not to ride on gravel or dirt really but have ended up doing so on occasion as I explore our area and come across them. I feel more comfortable on pavement as my earlier biking experiences were on that surface. Cost-wise, I'm thinking $400-800, but I'm willing to go higher if I find a bike I absolutely love. I…
  • I have a couple of Bento boxes for work as well. I generally take left overs, so it makes figuring out portions quite simple. Mine are never as pretty as yours is though. LOL Great topic!
  • I'll second Skinny Cow products. Their caramel truffle ice cream bars are fantastic and the crisp bars are like having a candy bar. My SIL gave me a recipe for a less guilty dark chocolate recipe from "Trim Healthy Mama" that I really liked when I tried some, but I've not made it myself yet. They have several versions if…
  • I eat with a reduced carb plan, not very low carb, and keep an eye on overall calories. I definitely lose quicker with the lower I go on carbs but this isn't a diet for me, it's a lifestyle change, so it has to be a bit more flexible to make it doable. My goal is 30gm carbs at meals, 15gm for snacks, for s total of 120gm…
  • Love this! The more sugar you eat the more you crave it. I used to eat a ton of cookies, donuts etc but no more. I forced myself to tough it out for a couple of weeks and the cravings lessened considerably. Fruit is a good replacement for sweets. I freeze banana slices then have 2-3 slices with a bit of peanut butter YUM!…
  • Today 6.2 miles Total 44.2 miles I may have to increase my goal! :)
  • You have to really want it and be ready to dedicate yourself to making this lifestyle change. No one can do that for you. It's ok if you aren't ready, it took me 25 yrs to finally get there. My push happened when my feet went numb. A doctor's visit revealed type 2 diabetes and the real possibility of losing the feeling in…
  • Today 6.6 miles Total 38 miles
  • Add me for 75. I think that's doable for me,
  • Week 1 12.5 miles Today 18.9 miles Total so far 31.4 miles
  • I'm a nurse with type 2 diabetes as well, diagnosed last December. It was the push that I needed to finally get serious about my health and making this lifestyle change. I won't kid you, the first couple of weeks were tough as I was afraid to eat anything and not sure what I could actually have. Yes, I absolutely knew what…
  • Within the past week, I read an article on CNN regarding eating 6 small meals a day versus 2 larger meals. Their study showed eating 2 larger meals with that intermittent fasting period naturally inbetween resulted in better weight loss. I thought it interesting.
  • Yes, multiple studies have proven the connection between lack of sleep and weight gain.
  • Once you get back on plan, it should only take a week or two to re-lose the water weight. Drink plenty of water and be active. If you have swelling in your feet, try propping them up on a couple of pillows when you are on the couch/in bed. Watch your salt intake for a couple of weeks as well. Unfortunately, I have slot of…
  • I tend to eat more carbs right before my cycle too. After a few months of doing this, I finally recognized that pattern. I try to at least select carbs that aren't so bad for me, such as frozen banana slices with peanut butter instead of a donut. I'll add a few chocolate chips if I'm craving chocolate and it's a great…
  • I am doing this for health reasons, so there's no cheat days just because it's vacation for me. I aim to maintain, stay active and keep logging. Restaurant foods are higher in salt so I always go up a couple of lbs in water weight but it comes right back off. Make the best choice of the foods you have to pick from and try…
