Sleep and Weight Loss

I've realized that my lack of sleep in the past few weeks -- and irregular sleep schedule -- may have a role in my inability to loose weight. I was wondering if anyone can speak to the experience of adequate sleep (7-8 hours) and their weight loss?

I think it has been proven that sleep deprivation slows down weight loss. That is why shift workers (nurses, police, etc) who work nights are at higher risk of obesity and developing co-morbidities like high blood pressure and diabetes.0

Interesting, because I was just told this day in addition to upping my calories (YES I've been told this multiple times now), that I need to try to sleep more.
