LOVE Love love my recumbent stationary bike. I have a bad back and not so great knees, so it's been fantastic. I bought it several years ago and used it intermittently but now I'm so happy I have it. Walking is the simplest thing to do. Once you get comfortable, you can pick out a more challenging route like one with hills.

If you will be having your lipids checked, there are actually recommended guidelines for diet the evening before. It may vary a bit from lab to lab but for our hospital, it's asked you avoid alcohol for 48 hrs, avoid full fat dairy, butter/ margarine, salad dressing, fried foods and fatty meats for dinner the night before.…

Do you have a medical condition which requires watching your carbs? Diabetes, pre-diabetes or insulin resistance? Does eating that many carbs cause you fluid retention, GI upset or anything else? If your answers are no, then there's nothing to be scared about. You stayed within your calorie goals. You can, in the future,…

Fantastic results! Way to go!

I wear 3 layers of clothing because I'm freezing. Discovered the heat had been out in my office for most of the winter, so that certainly hasn't been helping the cause. I've replaced almost everything I wear and now the new stuff needs replaced again. I really must hit the consignment shops, not just to buy, but to sell…

Meat, chicken, tuna and other fish/seafood, cheese, milk, beans, eggs, nuts and nut butters.

I can't begin to tell you the number of times I've seen people who decided eating pizza or French fries a couple of weeks after surgery was a good idea, only to end up with an obstruction that has to be removed. If a person is not willing to dedicate themselves to the process it can be a disaster. Bariatric surgery can be…

Ditto all the stores suggested, but one that hasn't been mentioned is JCPenny. Until last year, I had never bought an article of clothing at JCP but then my local go-to store closed and I couldn't find anyplace with decently prices business clothing. Enter JCP. They have a nice business selection and always have stuff on…

Way to go!

Sometimes I give in and eat that comfort food, which is part of the reason why I am here to begin with. I am working on this very thing though. Have you tried any stress reduction techniques like meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing, journaling, yoga etc? I use a combination of all of the above to lower my stress…

I wish the forums had a Like or Recommend button. I think this post is dead on and something everyone should read. If you don't look at the whys and hows about what brought you to this point in life, then there is no way to make sustainable, long term lifestyle changes.

How about making better selections at McDs if you must go there? Some of their salads are good, the wraps are decent depending upon your selection, a cheeseburger is a lot less calories than a Big Mac. Look up their nutrition menu online and plan the calories into your day. If you must have it, then make it work.

High sodium levels can contribute to fluid retention, swelling in hands/feet and high blood pressure. If none of those are issues for you, then just stick to the recommended daily amount for the most part. As for weight, if you are holding on to 5lbs of extra water then you'll just weigh 5lbs more.

I eat a reduced carb diet and exercise 5-6 days a week to manage my blood sugars. I do not do Atkins or extremely low carb. It's working great for me so far so I'm not going to change a thing. This is a lifestyle change that will be with me long term so I have to learn how to manage vacations, holidays, and whatever life…

It really depends upon what you want. Myself, I work the occasional treat into my day and do not have a planned cheat day/meal. Due to health reasons, that just would not be a very good thing for me to do. If knowing you have a meal to look forward to helps keep you on track the rest of the time, then do it. Go with what…

Take a deep breath and relax a bit. Weight loss is not linear. You will not see a loss every time you get on the scale. In order to gain a lb, you would have had to eat 3500 cals more than your goal recently. It's more likely a little water weight, which can be from salt, your mentrual cycle or needing to go to the…

Kudos for starting again. What is helping me is a constant reminder that this is not a diet. This is a lifestyle change, one that I have to maintain for the rest of my life. It's for my health and I must do it. If I have a not so good day or week, then I have to put that behind me and start again right away. We have a…

Start out by taking a walk on the 3 days you are off. Take your daughter with you if you can. Do you have a video game system? Wii and others have some really fun games and dances that make exercise less of a chore. Challenge your daughter to a dance off. LOL That's it. Once you feel comfortable with that, then consider…

"If I'm going to hurt anyways, I may as well do what I want." That has been my motto for several years. I've written it in numerous posts on Facebook, on webMD etc, where I connect with my fibro friends. I was diagnosed in 2006. I still work 50+ hrs a week and do whatever I want but I've had to make some concessions at…

I'm keeping carbs to under 135gm/day, but average 100-120gm normally. This is for type 2 diabetes. There are suggested rules for making the carbs work for you. For example, always have a protein with your carbs. It slows digestion and moderates the sugar spike afterwards. This way you aren't craving carbs in a hour after…

I ditto SunVeggan's advise. I do not have certain foods which I know I can not stay away from in the house. Potato chips and cookies! If I want chips, I have to make a trip the the store to get them and by that time it's just too much effort to make for a chip. LOL I keep lots of healthy options in the house but For salty…

I like Mission Carb Balance tortilla wraps. They have 13gm fiber, 5gm protein and 6 NET carbs.

I love the idea of using hand weights while riding the stationary bike! Course, I won't be able to post here while I'm pedaling like I'm doing at the moment. LOL I am having hand surgery at the end of the month though and won't be able to do much one- handed for a a couple of weeks. And of course, it has to be my dominate…

There are a lot of ways to "hide" veggies in recipes. Just google it. There are many veggies that I don't like either but I do eat a variety of them. Do you like V8? That'll give you a few at least. In the end, as long as you are eating at a deficit you can lose. It's not the healthiest way, but it is possible.

It is not a diet. Diets have start and stop dates and many regain as soon as they return to their prior habits. I am making a lifestyle change for better health because I MUST. That said, I eat reduced ( not zero) carbs due to diabetes. Due to that, I'm eating a lot fewer calories than I used to I'm certain. I follow MFPs…

i had a doctor's appointment today, prepping for upcoming surgery. I did tell them what I've lost and the physician assistant looked at me like I had 2 heads when I said there's still lots more to go. She thought I look fine, which is a compliment in a way I suppose. LOL Because I chose to not share my journey with most of…

WTG! You look fabulous!

Congrats on your loss so far! It's very frustrating when the scale does not want to move but keep at it.

Welcome! One of the hardest things to do is just getting started, so you are already on the right track. Good luck on your journey!

WTG! You are doing very well.
